Back William Hill Helps Individuals With Gambling-Related Issues By Donating $50,000

The council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey and William Hill have announced big news that could make a major breakthrough in treating gambling-related harm. One of the greatest sportsbook operators has decided to make a donation of $50,000 as a way of supporting people dealing with gambling problems.

One of the highlights of the campaign will be the production of an educational video which will portray a problem gambler and his/her family, showing them directions to organizations and resources which might be of help. The plan is to distribute the video via multiple media, such as ads on TV and radio, online and social network platforms and movie theaters as well.

Personal Experience As Motivation For Donation

Joe Asher, William Hill CEO, pointed out that his own experience of dealing with a family member that has problems with gambling was a strong inspiration for the donation. In addition to this, he explained that the donation to the organization partially came from proceeds…

…from settling a copyright infringement with FanDuel in January.

Comments Asher:

“The Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey saw the article about our intentions and reached out to us. We spent a lot of time working on best use and we decided to focus on reaching out to family members of those with a gambling problem. I know from personal experience that family members of problem gamblers can help push those that need help to seeking it.”

Other notable providers also wanted to show they are socially responsible. A certain percentage of the profits from one of the latest releases by each, such as Pariplay's Rumble Rhino will be donated to an organization which works on saving endangered species.

Hill Conquers The Market

Already being an established name among sportsbook operators, Hill is frequently sealing deals with numerous partners and continuing the expansion on regulated markets. Besides New Jersey, it operates venues in…

…Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Nevada, West Virginia, and Rhode Island.

In addition to this, it serves as Delaware’s exclusive risk manager for the sports lottery. As for New Jersey, they operate venues such as Ocean Resort Casino, Tropicana Atlantic City and Monmouth Park Racetrack, as well as an online sports betting app aimed at NJ consumers.

Raise The Awareness

Commenting on their own stance, the Council on Compulsive Gambling is neither specifically pro-gambling or against gambling. As Neva Prior, the Council’s executive points out, “if you do gamble, do so responsibly.”

In addition to this, she says, this generous donation will make it possible for them “…to alert the public that problem gambling is a treatable disease and that there is a help not only for the problem gambler but for the family as well.”
