Translated from the Arabic to mean ‘harbour of peace’, Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanaznia, and home to one (if not ‘the’) largest ports in East Africa. There are a few things to do in this bustling economic hub. Try one of the museums like the National Museum of Tanzania, or the Village Museum, just outside town, with its dance and music shows highlighting Tanzanian culture. Near here you can also find the Botanical Gardens. For more history, head to the Kaole Ruins, about an hour north of Bagamoyo. For further culture, there’s the House of Culture which opened in 2011. When you want to check out marine fauna, there’s the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve, also good for snorkeling and scuba diving, as is Bongoyo Island.

gaming

The Las Vegas Casino has over 150 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals, as well as 9 table games comprised of blackjack and roulette. The casino boasts more progressive slots than any other Tanzanian casino, so good luck and get spinning! You can also find Tanzania’s largest poker room here, with cash games and daily tournaments. Ask staff about tournament times and try your hand against some of the best players in the area.

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site, however, just a mere 0.2 km away you can find the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel with its 230 rooms, which also include 36 executive rooms, 9 junior suites, 3 diplomatic sites and a presidential suite. Check out the 7th floor if you’re interested in a bit of personal care, with its own executive lounge, boardroom, internet café and butler service. The hotel itself is surrounded by gardens and is steps from the Indian Ocean. Maximize your stay by asking staff about the best bars and restaurants nearby, local attractions, and information on booking safaris.

Dining

When you’re looking for seafood, you want Jahhizi. Complement your meals from a selection out of their wine cellar. If it’s buffets you’re after, then it’s Serengeti Restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets and an a la carte menu. Lunch, dinners and live music are at Kibo Bar. Sip and dine poolside at Island Traders. Light snacks can be found in the Baker’s Basket. You can always head into town looking for venues dishing up authentic African cuisine, or pick up items at one of the local markets.

Attractions/NightLife

For nightlife, there’s several options. Q Bar has live music on Fridays, big screen tvs for your favourite sporting events, and happy hour Monday to Friday, 5 pm until 7 pm. More live music and eats like pizza and pub fare are at O’Willie’s Irish Whiskey Tavern. Level 8 has live music as well occasionally. If you’d like to check out traditional dance, there’s the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Cultural Centre. For additional culture, head to the House of Culture. For museums try the National Museum of Tanzania or the Village Museum. For archaeological sites, head to the Kaole Ruins. To explore the local flora, there’s the Botanical Gardens, and for fauna, try the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve or the Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve. Don’t forget of course, safaris through the Serengeti.

Rewards/Deals

The casino does not currently have a player reward systems in place but be sure to ask staff about any potential contests or promotions, as well as information on their poker tournaments.
