The harbour of peace, or Dar es Salaam, is the largest, and likely wealthiest, city in Tanzania. For live music Fridays, there’s Q Bar, also with happy hour 5 to 7 pm, Monday to Friday. For drinks and pub fare, there’s O’Willie’s Irish Whiskey Tavern. To explore Tanzanian culture try either the House of Culture or the Mwalimu Julius k Nyerere Cultural Centre. To appreciate the history of the area there’s the National Museum and the Village Museum. For archaeological sites, head to the Kaole Ruins over in Bagamoyo. To view indigenous flora there’s the Botanical Gardens, and for marine fauna try either the Dar es Salaam Marine Reserve or the Bongoyo Island Marine Reserve. And of course, there’s always the chance to safari through the Serengeti.
