Kings Casino

Located on the southern side of Lake Victoria in northwest Tanzania, is the city of Mwanaza. Chances are if you come across the city it’s while heading on to Uganda or Rawanda, but if you happen to be staying there are a few things you can do while here, not the least of which is hitting the King’s Casino. If you’re keen on checking out the temples and mosques try around the central market, also a good place to get some shopping in. To appreciate the indigenous flora and fauna head over to the Saa Nane Game Reserve, but if caged animals aren’t really your thing, it’s also a great time to book a safari across the Serengeti. For lazy afternoon strolls and soaking up the environs, walk along Lake Victoria. For a more panoramic view, there’s Capri Point.

The casino has 30 classic and video slot machines and an additional 7 table games consisting of blackjack and roulette over their 6300 sq ft. gaming floor. There may not be quite enough here to satisfy the more enthusiastic of gamers, but it may well make a nice respite indoors away from the hot sun, when you need to unwind for an hour or two. Try your luck at cads and slots between the hours of noon and midnight daily. You can also find a restaurant on site.

The New Mwanza Hotel has 37 deluxe rooms, 5 executive suites and one presidential suite, each coming equipped with internet access. The hotel has a swimming pool, health club, steam room, sauna, salon, various shops, restaurants, coffee shop, a business centre and conference facilities. Guests can also enjoy 24 hour room service. Ask staff about their on site currency exchange, and help with booking trips and advice on where to go and what to see. The hotel is about 7 km from the airport and about 1 km from Lake Victoria.

Dining

For varied menu items try Kivulini Kitchen, or try the coffee shop if you want light eats like pastries. If you’re interested in pizza there’s Kuleana Pizzeria. For assorted grilled meats, there’s nearby Shooters Grill. Spend some time chatting up the staffs in both the casino and hotel for recommendations on the best eateries dishing up authentic African cuisine, popular with locals and tourists alike or head into the core finding your own venue. You can always try the local markets and grab some local fare, or head near the airport, where the markets sell fish.

Attractions/NightLife

Just outside of town is Tunza Lodge. This resort, aside from the beaches, has its own bar and restaurant. At the hotel itself, there’s The Breeze. Alternately, consider enjoying drinks on the casino floor, poolside or find your own new favourite watering hole. Just off Capri Point (itself good for the views it offers), you can find the Saa Nane Game Reserve. Though, you’re only 2 hours out from the Serengeti and this is a great time to book a safari. For all your shopping needs, head over near the airport, check out the stores in the hotel shopping plaza, or wander over to the central market, where you can also find mosques and temples. Walk along the shores of Lake Victoria when you just feel like a bit of downtime.
