Things are not looking so good for me and Alonso after the qualifying session, Nico Hulkenberg surprisingly took the pole position, Vettel will start second, Webber in third, Hamilton in fourth and Fernando Alonso in fifth... I hope he'll be able to do better in the actual race...

The race has ended, Sebastian Vettel managed to win it with Webber coming in second, Alonso third and Hamilton fourth. That means that the very last race of the season, the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix next weekend, will be extremely tense since no less than four drivers are still in with a chance to win the championship. Alonso is still in the lead with 246 points, Webber is second with 238, Vettel is third with 231 while Hamilton keeps a slim chance with 222 points. I have lost my bet but I'm surely looking forward to that last race! :)

It's time for this week's bet! I have chosen a soccer match this time and it's quite a big one from the English Premier League: the Manchester derby between Manchester United and Manchester City. There are less than 12 hours left before the start of the game but the tension around it is already reaching boiling point. Manchester United seem to be the favorites since they won the last four derbies and are the only undefeated team in the new season. Manchester City are quite strong themselves though, they invested enormous amounts of cash during the summer to bring in new players and this will be the perfect opportunity for them to show their worth.

With all those things in mind and knowing Roberto Mancini's (Man City manager) cautious approach I decided to put my money on a draw. I think that it might end goalless but if one of the teams will manage to score then all hell might break loose. Anyway, I'm looking forward to a cracking game and maybe a winning bet ;) Here is a screen shot of the betting slip from Intertops:

What do you know... it ended goalless! I should have bet on the exact score! :) As I expected it was a hard-fought game between two cautious teams. There were only a few chances to score, the best one was in the 35th minute when Manchester City's striker Carlos Tevez (former Man United star) fired a good free kick shot but goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar pulled off a great save to deny him.

Well, I won my bet but I would have preferred to see a few goals in this one :)

So, I decided to go for some NBA games this week... Money line bets are not available so I picked two point spread bets, they are quite risky but that surely adds even more fun to the bet. Here's what I picked:

San Antonio Spurs at Utah Jazz

Utah Jazz -2.5, odds -110

Oklahoma City Thunder at Boston Celtics

Boston Celtics -6.5, odds -110

So, the Jazz have to win by a three goal margin while the Celtics will have to put more than 7 goals past the Thunder, both options seem fairly possible but a basketball game is always tough to predict. I chose the Jazz because I admire this team since the glorious days of John Stockton and Karl Malone and the current team seems to be talented enough to walk into their footsteps. They will have a tough match with the Spurs, an equally strong team, but I hope that the Jazz will make the home advantage count.

About the Celtics, they have a great team and I can't look beyond them for tonight's game. Now the seven goal margin might be too much so I guess I'll need a bit of luck for that one.

Well, I was a long way off this time! Both Boston and Utah got beaten at home, I really didn't expect that. Oklahoma City beat Boston 89-84 while San Antonio beat Utah 94-82.

I did try a Lucky 15 a while ago, I even won it, but not online. Then I stopped using such bets because they tend to get a bit complicated and generally I like to keep things as simple as possible. 

I know what you mean about them being complicated.  I guess they would be easier online.

I have a friend who is a horseracing addict and he does yankees. He never wins though.

The Chicago Bears, top of NFC North, will have a very tough game at Soldier Field on Sunday since the visitors will be the Philadelphia Eagles, top of NFC East! Both teams are coming from three consecutive wins: Philadelphia beat Indianapolis, Washington (away) and New York while the Bears have gone past Buffalo (away), Minnesota and Miami (away). Here's how the Associated Press sum up the game: "With Michael Vick playing like a Pro Bowl quarterback and leading Philadelphia to three straight victories and into sole possession of first place in the NFC East, the Eagles are suddenly looking like a Super Bowl contender.The Chicago Bears have similarly won three games in a row and are also atop their division, but aren't widely considered an NFC power. A win over Philadelphia would go a long way in confirming their status as a top contender."

Yipeee!!! The Bears got their fourth consecutive win thanks to Jay Cutler who tied a career high with four touchdown passes! And I won too, thanks for the heads up Froggy! And also thanks to Lips for the kind words. :)

I have just made my next bet since there's a huge event tonight, one that I really couldn't go by without betting: the clash between the Spanish soccer giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, "El Clasico" (the Classic Derby). Both teams are in outstanding shape considering that Barcelona won their last league game 8-0 and Real won theirs 5-1. Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be the stars of a game that surely is the biggest event in soccer since the World Cup.

Now you have to know that I'm a Barcelona fan, my support goes to them and it's obvious that I couldn't bet on anything else than a Barcelona win. Here is the betting slip from Intertops:

Barcelona are leading 2-0 at half time, it seems that I'm on course for another winning bet. Real Madrid could always pull off a fightback though, fingers crossed for the second half... :)

The game ended 5-0, it was a breathtaking display from Barcelona! Xavi and Pedro gave Barca a two-goal lead at half time and then David Villa killed off the game with a quickfire double before the hour mark. Substitute Jeffren scored the fifth goal on the stroke of full time to give Barcelona a stunning win after a superb display against their fierce rivals. Watching this game was an immense pleasure, I have rarely seen a soccer team playing like Barcelona did tonight (and I've watched thousands of matches until now).

It's time for this week's bet! As you already know I'm becoming a Chicago Bears fan and although my last bet on them was just a couple of weeks ago I decided to put my money on the Bears again since they will have a cracking match on Sunday against the New England Patriots.

Both teams have been impressive so far: the Bears have won their last five games while the Patriots are on a four-match winning streak. The Patriots are top of the AFC East while the Bears are top of the NFC North... It's worth saying though that the Patriots are the favorites to win at Soldier Field on Sunday! However, I often bet on the teams that I support so I don't mind going against the odds again on the Bears. Last time it worked well, I hope it will be a success again.

Yep, the Patriots ended Chicago's winning streak with a comprehensive 36-7 beating... Hopefully that will not affect the players' confidence too much. It didn't damage mine, that's certain, I will try another bet later this week ;)
