  • Hello folks! Starting today I will publish a true betting story here, the bets that I will place myself and, hopefully, the money I will win :) You can try to place the same bets as I do but that will surely won't be a guarantee that you will become rich. On the contrary, I see sports betting as a good way to have fun so I surely don't recommend getting too addicted to it or seeing it as a way to make money. Without further ado, let's see the first betting slip that I am going to place.

I'm a big fan of Premier League soccer so the first betting slip will be made entirely out of Premier League games. I decided to place it at Sports Interaction, here is how the betting slip looks like:

    1. Arsenal FC v West Bromwich Albion

    Arsenal FC to win, -625

    2. Birmingham City v Wigan Athletic

    Birmingham City to win, -118

    3. West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur

    Tottenham Hotspur to win, +105

    4. Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United

    Manchester United to win, -200

    Combination

    Price: +560

    Bet Amount:$ 10

    Bet Payout: $ 65.99

  • Tough Luck...

It was a day full of surprising results in the Premier League and that nullified my chances of getting something out of my first betting slip. West Brom pulled off the biggest upset of the season so far by beating Arsenal 3-2 at Emirates Stadium! West Ham earned their first victory of the season at the expenses of Tottenham while Birmingham were held to a goalless draw at home.

There go my 10 bucks... I'll try to figure out a better betting slip next, stay tuned to find out what I will choose.

  • My sister is gutted Arsenal lost too.

Shame you lost this time but I'm pretty sure you're going to have some winners soon.  Good luck and I'm loving this thread.

    blue

  • Thanks for the support Blue, I would appreciate any betting suggestions as well :)

Here is the next betting slip, this time is focused on Major League Baseball games (odds from Sports Interaction):

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees

    (Moneyline)New York to win - odds 1.95

Chicago White Sox at LA Anaheim

    (Moneyline)Chicago to win - odds 1.77

Seattle Mariners at Tampa Bay Rays

    (Moneyline)Tampa Bay to win - odds 1.40

    Combination

    Price: 4.84

    Bet Amount:$ 10

    Bet Payout: $ 48.36

I hope I'll be able to cover the loss from the Premier League games :)

  • It went a bit better this time, I got two out of three... Chicago won at LA 6-2, Tampa Bay beat Seattle 9-1 but the Yankees surprisingly got beaten by the Red Sox 7-3! I did have a lot of fun while following those games though, definitely worth the 10 bucks :)

I'll try to do better next time, stay tuned to find out!

  • Can I ask - as it was a combination bet, you won nothing I assume?  Would it have been worth doing 3 x single bets as well?

    blue

  • Can I ask - as it was a combination bet, you won nothing I assume?  Would it have been worth doing 3 x single bets as well?

It was a combination bet indeed so I won nothing. If I would have gone for three single bets at 10 dollars each then I would have lost 10 on the Yankees and won 17 and respectively 14 on the other two. So I would have spent 30 and earned 31, not really convincing. I prefer to lose 10 bucks than to win one :)

  • lol - I can understand that.  Your return on the combo bet was far better than the individual bets.

    blue

  • Here we go, time for my next bet. Since midweek UEFA Champions League soccer is the most important sporting event these days I decided to make a combo bet on four games. Let's see what I chose and why:

    Spartak Moscow vs MSK Zilina

I bet on Spartak to win, they have a far better team than Zilina, they won the first game 1-0 away at Marseille while Zilina were demolished at home by Chelsea. The odds are not great though, only 1.40

    AS Roma vs CFR Cluj

I bet that Roma will beat my fellow Romanians simply because they are a lot better. I have watched Cluj's last games and they are playing rather poorly while Roma seem to be back on track after beating Inter 1-0 last weekend. The odds are 1.35

    Basel vs Bayern Munich

I bet on an away win for Bayern because I have watched Basel's previous game (lost 2-1 at CFR Cluj) and they don't seem to be competitive at this level. The odds are pretty good considering the low risk, 1.90

    Partizan Belgrade vs Arsenal

I put my money on a surprising draw, I think that Partizan will play a memorable game in front of their awesome fans and Arsenal will not be able to beat them. The odds are quite profitable if Partizan will pull it off, 3.30

Here is a screen shot of the betting slip I have submitted at Intertops:

    slip4.png

  • Good luck - it'll be a nice return if you win.

    blue

  • Thanks for the good luck wish Blue :)

  • Wtggggggggggg Da Bears!!!!!!! I knew i liked ya Johnny!!!

    Lips

  • So far so good, Spartak Moscow just beat Zilina 3-0! One down, three to go! :)

  • Well, I came close again but I had lots of fun following those four games. Let's see what happened.

    Spartak Moscow vs MSK Zilina

I bet on Spartak to win and they did. Ari's looping header set Spartak on their way to success after 34 minutes and the Brazilian striker struck again from close range just after the hour mark. Slovakian champions Zilina tried to get back into the game but their hopes were finally extinguished late on when Ibson slotted home a third.

    AS Roma vs CFR Cluj

I bet that Roma will win and they did but it was a lot more difficult for them than I would have expected. Lacina Traore was twice denied by the woodwork for Cluj and Roma made the most of their reprieve as Philippe Mexes scored the all-important opener deep into the second half. Marco Borriello volleyed home a spectacular second from a ball dipping over his shoulder to provide the highlight of the match, and Roma held on despite Ionut Rada's late goal for Cluj.

    Basel vs Bayern Munich

I bet on an away win for Bayern and the Germans pulled it off but they had to come from behind to win the game. Alexander Frei curled in a delightful opener for Basel but Bastian Schweinsteiger scored twice, once from the penalty spot.

    Partizan Belgrade vs Arsenal

I bet on a surprising draw but Arsenal made their superiority count on the score board. Andrey Arshavin broke the deadlock for the Gunners after linking up well with Jack Wilshere, but the Serbian side equalised before half-time courtesy of Cleo's penalty following a Denilson handball. I was right on track at half time but the Gunners reacted very well in the second half. Arsenal were presented with a spot-kick of their own when Marouane Chamakh was brought down early in the second half by Marko Jovanovic, who was sent off, but Arshavin's poor effort was saved by former Wigan goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic. The miss was not to prove costly, however, as Marouane Chamakh showed just what Arsenal have been missing in recent years, an aerial threat, by heading home 19 minutes from time. Sebastien Squillaci made it 3-1 before Lukasz Fabianski pressed his claims for a regular place in goal by brilliantly saving another Cleo penalty late on.

That's how it went, I'm pleased that I got 3 out of 4 but I'm sorry that my intuition proved wrong as far as Partizan were concerned.

  • What a disappointment Johnny - congrats on the other 3 though.

    blue

  • Well, I'm happy that Arsenal won :) I often bet against my favorite team just to be covered: I'm happy if the team wins but I can be happy if they don't win too because I'll get some money :)

  • Since the NHL season is starting today I guess I have no other option than to test my betting skills on the opening games :) Although the early season games often bring surprises I guess I will stick to the favorites, let's see what I chose.

Carolina at Minnesota - Minnesota to win (5/6)

This game will be played in Helsinki, Finland, so there is no home advantage for either of the two sides. None of the two reached the play-offs last season so they will surely be looking to make a good start this term. Minnesota coach Todd Richards is quite confident so I'm going to trust him: "If you look back at last year our start, we were a team trying to find itself from the first drop of the puck and we didn't get there until about November," Richards said. "It should be earlier rather than later, and really that's my focus."

Montreal at Toronto - Toronto to win (5/7)

I think that the Maple Leafs will clinch this one because of the home advantage and also because Montreal will miss one of their best players, Michael Cammalleri. He was assessed a one-game suspension for a slashing incident involving Nino Niederreiter in Saturday’s preseason game against the Islanders. The left wing led the League in goals with 13 during last season's playoffs.

Chicago at Colorado - Chicago to win (10/13)

Last season's Stanley Cup winners have to get off to a good start, they might still be the best team in the league and I expect them to prove that right away. They did let go quite a few players but Stanley Cup hero Patrick Kane, Conn Smythe winner Jonathan Toews and Norris Trophy winner Duncan Keith will continue to be a part of the team's core for years.

Here is the betting slip, I placed the combo bet at Sports Interaction:

    betsliphockey.png

    Wish me luck! :)

  • I really do wish you luck Johnny.  Would be nice to see a win to bring you back into an overall credit on this thread.

    Good luck!  :D

Thanks Blue. Anyway, it's not all about winning or losing, the important thing is to have fun in the process and not to be upset if you lose.

  • I agree but a little "tickle" now and then keeps the spirits high.

    I wish you luck.

    blue

  • And now the results:

Carolina Hurricanes at Minnesota Wild 4-3 (predicted a win for Minnesota)

Brandon Sutter scored twice for the Hurricanes, including the game-winner late in the second period, and Jussi Jokinen had a goal and an assist. The result, a 4-3 win for the Hurricanes over the Minnesota Wild in the first game of the NHL season could give them a lot of confidence going forward. The goalscorers: CAR:  Sutter, B. (PPG, 19:50 in 1st), Babchuk, A. (05:58 in 2nd), Jokinen, J. (PPG, 11:16 in 2nd), Sutter, B. (18:03 in 2nd); MIN:  Latendresse, G. (03:33 in 1st), Cullen, M. (PPG, 09:52 in 2nd), Burns, B. (PPG, 16:39 in 3rd)

Montreal Canadiens at Toronto Maple Leafs 2-3 (got this one right)

I got this one right even though it wasn't easy. The Leafs accomplished in a single game what took them nine tries last year, beating the Montreal Canadiens. The goalscorers:  MTL:  Boyd, D. (12:19 in 1st), Halpern, J. (02:28 in 3rd); TOR:  Brent, T. (06:42 in 1st), Kessel, P. (08:57 in 1st), MacArthur, C. (01:36 in 3rd)

Chicago Blackhawks at Colorado Avalanche 3-4 (predicted a win for Chicago)

Last season's Stanley Cup winners got off to a bad start in Colorado as the Avalanche youngsters taught them a lesson. Colorado clinched the game in overtime thanks to Paul Stastny who scored with 1:20 remaining in overtime, his second goal of the game. The goalscorers:  CHI:  Bickell, B. (PPG, 04:37 in 1st), Hossa, M. (18:24 in 2nd), Sharp, P. (PPG, 10:25 in 3rd); COL:  Stewart, C. (16:30 in 1st), Duchene, M. (06:13 in 2nd), Stastny, P. (PPG, 13:51 in 2nd), Stastny, P. (03:40 in OT)

That's how it went this time, I was not far from getting all three results right because, as you can notice, all the three games were quite tight and one of them went into overtime.

  • Very close indeed.  Best of luck on your next bet...which I'm looking forward to.

    blue

  • Thanks Blue, I guess I'll bet on some soccer games next week.

  • OK, it's time for this week's betting slip! Since there are a wealth of soccer games playing today all around Europe in the Euro 2012 qualifying groups I chose to place a fairly risky 10 match combo! Let's see what I chose:

    Scotland v Spain

    Straight Up Winner Spain 1.36

I'll surely be watching this game tonight as I enjoy watching the Spanish team regardless of their opponent. They won't have an easy game in Scotland but I reckon their superior skills will bring them a victory.

    Iceland v Portugal

    Straight Up Winner Portugal 1.30

Portugal had a troublesome start to their campaign but now they seem to be back on track. A trip to chilly Iceland is never easy but I hope that the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani will bring a win for Portugal.

    France v Luxembourg

    Straight Up Winner France 1.02

Not much to say about this one, France will surely win it unless a disaster happens.

    England v Montenegro

    Straight Up Winner England 1.15

I think I will be watching this game too and since I'll be cheering for England I thought that a nice stake to it wouldn't be too bad.

    San Marino v Moldova

    Straight Up Winner Moldova 1.15

San Marino just got thrashed 8-0 in Hungary and although Moldova are not a top team I think they will not miss the opportunity to get the three points.

    Netherlands v Sweden

    Straight Up Winner Netherlands 1.55

This one is tricky, Sweden are a solid team but since I am a keen admirer of the Dutch side I hope they will give their home crowd something to cheer about.

    Denmark v Cyprus

    Straight Up Winner Denmark 1.30

Cyprus showed they are no pushovers by beating Portugal in the opening game but I think that they lack the strength to pull off another memorable result in Denmark.

    Liechtenstein v Czech Republic

Straight Up Winner Czech Republic 1.10

It would be quite shameful for the Czechs not to win this one, I'm counting on their will to defend their pride.

    Kazakhstan v Germany

    Straight Up Winner Germany 1.06

I think it will be a fairly easy one for Germany, they might score quite a few goals too.

    Armenia v Andorra

    Straight Up Winner Armenia 1.05

Andorra is one of the weakest teams in Europe and although Armenia are not nearly world class they should win this one with ease.

Here is the screen shot of the betting slip from Intertops.com

    slip.png

Placing such a combo bet on 10 games is always risky, there is always the chance of just one game going wrong. I hope it won't happen though ;)

  • Good luck to you Johnny.  I hope you are right with all your predictions.

    blue

  • Hi Johnny,

What will you win if you got them all correct $58.84?

    Lips

  • @Blue

Thanks for the good luck wish.

    @Lips

    Yes, I'd win 58.84 bucks.

One of the games ended a few hours ago, Armenia beat Andorra 4-0. One down, nine more to go...

  • Thanks for your reply and Good luck Johnny! Lets hope the remaining 9 are winners!

    Lips

  • Germany beat Kazakhstan 3-0, eight more to go... :)

  • ... and another one went well, Czech Republic beat Liechtenstein 2-0! Seven to go...

  • Denmark beat Cyprus 2-0, six to go...

  • Moldova beat San Marino 2-0, Netherlands beat Sweden 4-1! Six down, four to go.

  • The last four results are in and, as usual, only three of them went right and one went wrong... Spain beat Scotland 3-2, Portugal beat Iceland 3-1, France beat Luxembourg 2-0. So far so good but England were held to a goalless draw at Wembley by Montenegro! I guess there is some bad luck following me since I started this thread :(

  • What a shame.  So close and yet so far.

Keep on trucking and I know you'll have a nice win soon.

    blue

  • This week's betting slip will be a rather short one... Since I didn't have much luck lately with parlay or combo bets I decided to bet on just one event this time.

The event I chose is the sixth game of the Major League Baseball American Series between the Texas Rangers and the New York Yankees. Texas are leading the series 3-2 and I bet on them to win game six and wrap up the series tonight and advance to the World Series. The odds are 2/1 so the calculation is fairly simple :)

Here's a screen shot of the betting slip I recorded at Intertops:

    baseballslip.png

  • Good luck Johnny - I hope you win.

    blue

  • Thanks for being so supportive Blue :)

  • Texas won the game 6-1 and advance to the World Series for the first time ever in their 50-year history! They had never even won a playoff series before this season, but the Rangers are now just four wins away from the ultimate dream.

The Rangers now await the National League winner between the Giants and the Phillies, I might bet on them to win the World Series too :)

  • how about them Rangers!!! Congrats Johnny on your wise choice! I do believe after watching this series with the Yankees, we are unstoppable!

bet them all the way!    lol

    Texas fans for 30 years,

    gl Johnny

    imakin1

  • Congratulations on your win Johnny.  Really pleased for you and looking forward to your next betting slip.

    blue

  • Thanks Blue. Any suggestions for the next betting slip are welcome, from you or any of the other members ;)

  • How about some horseracing...do you do horserace betting?  What's your fave sport?

    blue

  • I've never bet on a horserace until now so it would be just a matter of luck rather than knowledge. I would like to try it though. Soccer is by far my favorite sport but I follow most sports.

  • Since it went well last time I figured I'd try a baseball bet again this week, especially because of all the hype that's going on around the World Series. In fact, I grabbed a special World Series 20% bonus at Intertops, they give that for any deposit that is made during the MLB final act. Last time I bet on the Texas Rangers to pull off a great surprise and beat the New York Yankees on the way to the World Series, now I decided to remain faithful to the Rangers and place my confidence on them again.

They lost the opening two games of the series at San Francisco, 11-7 and 9-0 but tonight they will be playing in front of their own fans and I believe that they will clinch a vital win that will keep them in with a chance to win the series. Here is the bet I placed at Intertops:

    betworldseries.png

I went for a parlay bet, Texas to win and game total over 8.5 points. Go Texas!!!

  • Good luck to you Johnny.  I hope you win.

    blue

  • Thanks Blue :)

  • Texas did win the game 4-2, it was a great display in front of their own fans. But my bet was a losing one since I predicted that more than 8.5 points will be scored and the two teams only managed to get in 6. Anyway, I'm happy that Texas won and that the series will go into game 4 with San Francisco leading 2-1.

  • So close.  What a shame.  Fingers crossed for next time.

    blue

  • Since this seems to be the most important event of the weekend I decided to place this week's bet on the Formula 1 race in Brazil, it could be a decisive race for the drivers championship. Fernando Alonso is leading the championship with 231 points but Vettel, Hamilton and Webber are not far behind him.

But since I kinda support Alonso since his very first race in the F1 circuit I decided to put my money on him to win the race and possibly wrap up the championship. Here is the bet I placed at Sports Interaction:

    formula1slip.png

I hope it will be a lucky one :)

  • I hope it's lucky too.  Good luck Johnny.

    blue
