  • Online Sportsbook Fuels William Hill Growth

     

    William Hill, Britain's largest bookmaker, has announced a great set of figures in the second quarter, most of the positives coming from the solid growth in its online sportsbook operation.

     

    The company's net revenue grew 20 percent compared to the same period in 2012, with operating profit growing by 8%. Online sportsbook net revenue went up by 44%, driving total online net revenue growth of 18% and operating profit growth of 16%.

  • Jimmy Vaccaro leaves William Hill U.S.

     

    Legendary bookie Jimmy Vaccaro decided to leave William Hill U.S. and accepted to run the South Point's Race and Sports Marketing division.

     

    Michael Gaughan, owner of the Royal Inn, has a long history with Vaccaro. In 1975 he wanted to open a sports book inside his casino and he picked Vaccaro, just a kid from Pittsburgh back then, to run the book. He asked Jimmy, "Do you know how to run a sports book?"Jimmy responded, "No," and Gaughan coolly replied, "Good, neither do I, so we'll learn together."

     

    Vaccaro's first task will be to develop the sportsbook's mobile app but he'll also be promoting several other South Point events, such as race book promotions and possibly the casino’s online poker venture.

    British betting giant William Hill is set to make a stronger presence in Australia. Their online services have been available there for a few years now but it seems they will start setting up betting shops and localized services in Australia very soon.

  • Paddy Power profits rising

     

    Paddy Power reported a first-half pretax profit rise of 12% to 77 million euros. The interim dividend has also gone up by 15% to 45 euro cents a share.

     

    The total amount staked by customers in the period to end-June was 3.07 billion euros, from the previous 2.7 billion euros.

     

    Total income was 379.8 million, also gone up from 315.1 million.

  • Ladbrokes and OpenBet sign new agreement

     

    Ladbrokes, one of the world's leading betting companies, has signed an agreement to extend its 15 year collaboration with OpenBet, the leading sportsbook and online gaming software provider. The new deal will be in place until 2016.

     

    The new agreement will see OpenBet continue to provide the technology behind Ladbrokes' online sportsbook and games products.

    British bookmaker Ladbrokes revealed on Thursday that the company is now expecting full year operating profit from the digital division to be below current market expectations.

     

    CEO Richard Glynn said that the “disappointing “ digital earnings reflected “a lack of competitiveness in sportsbook, lower margins than planned and a greater disruptive impact than expected from the transition necessary to grow digital for the long term.”

  • Huge mobile gaming revenue increase at William Hill

     

    William Hill has revealed a 126 per cent increase in mobile gaming revenue, with mobile accounting for 18 per cent over its gaming revenue during its third quarter.

     

    Group revenue increase by 10 per cent during the 13 week period ending 1 October, although the operating profit was down by nearly a third (31 per cent) overall.

    Irish bookmaker Paddy Power has announced that it now expects full year operating profit to be around €11m lower than the mid-point of its previous guidance range, mostly due to adverse sporting results.

     

    The company said that its overall performance had been good during the period, but that sports results had been “unfavourable”.

  • Ladbrokes announce new partnership to boost digital offer

     

    Bookmaker Ladbrokes announced a partnership with Chelsea Apps Factory to develop their mobile offer.

     

    The deal will result in the Ladbrokes mobile sportsbook team join a Chelsea Apps Factory team  in order to "improve the mobile product, analyse customer behaviour and embrace technological development".

     

    The partnership starts in December and will complement Ladbrokes move to Playtech's Mobenga mobile platform which is expected to be completed in the next few weeks.

    The new mobile sportsbook is available for all mobile devices and requires no downloads. Bet-at-Home have made huge profits this year, for the first nine months of 2013 they reported a profit of €11.6 million.

  • William Hill Record Revenue Rise

     

    Betting company William Hill’s fourth quarter income went up by six percent compared to last year in retail and online, according to a trading update that was made public last week.

     

    Mobile gaming net revenue was 199% higher than in 2012 and accounted for 23% of online’s total gaming net revenue.

     

    On a full year basis, group net revenue increased 16%, with retail up 8% and online up 10%. Operating profit is expected to be around £334m for 2013.

    Paddy Power is preparing to launch an improved version of its real-money sportsbook on Facebook, the new version is set to go live in April.

     

    The Paddy Power In-Play! app first launched in August last year, making it the first sports betting app on the social network. However, the operator’s managing director for online Peter O’Donovan explained that the product's success has been “limited” so far.

     

    “It was the first of its kind, and we continue to refine the overall product proposition to make sure it resonates with as many customers as possible,” he said.

    Victor Chandler is to step down as chairman of BetVictor after the online casino and sportsbook operator has been acquired by racecourse owner Michael Tabor.

     

    The value of the deal was not disclosed.

     

    Tabor previously operated bookmaker Arthur Prince before selling the chain to Coral. He also was a founding shareholder in BetVictor. Chandler will continue to serve as a consultant.

     

    “I believe the BetVictor brand has enormous potential and is well placed to continue its expansion with further investment and strategic development,” Tabor said. Chandler added: “Having owned and led this business for more than 40 years, I looked towards the future and I decided that the company would be best served under new ownership and leadership.     Latvia’s Lotteries and Gambling Supervision Inspection (IAUI) has added another twenty-two domains to its blacklist of unlicensed iGaming operators and that list includes four websites operated by Sky Betting and Gaming.

     

    The blacklist was introduced earlier this month and the total number of banned sites rise to 83 at the moment.

  • Ladbrokes Leaves Canadian Market

     

    Ladbrokes has announced the withdrawal of its igaming and sports betting operations from Canada. They ask their Canadian customers to withdraw all funds from their accounts.

     

    They will no longer accept wagers or deposits from players and bank accounts registered in Canada, all members from this territory have thirty days to withdraw and close their accounts.

     

    The decision had been undertaken after a review of Canadian igaming regulations, which have restricted online betting services to registered provincial lottery corporations. Current gambling laws do allow some foreign operators to target Canadian customers without being federally persecuted but Ladbrokes management decided that the region was no longer viable for its operations.

     

    MatchBook.com and Betfred have also left the Canadian Market.

    UK gambling and sportsbook operator bet365 launched its Casino, Poker and Sportsbook products for the Italian Gambling Market.

     

    The bet365.it platform will become available to the Italian residents and will offer players the entire offer of casino games, poker room, bingo and sportsbook options on both desktop and mobile devices.

     

    bet365′s biggest competitors like Paddy Power, William Hill and Betfair Paddy Power have already set up shop in Italy.

    Spain’s state prosecutor has summoned representatives from Primera Liga clubs Real Zaragoza and Real Levante regarding allegations of match fixing in a 2011 football match.

     

    The game that is under investigation took place at the end of the 2010-11 season, when Real Zaragoza beat Real Levante 2-1. Zaragoza steered clear of relegation with that result.

All UK operators have been forced to declare earnings on foreign jurisdictions which account for more than 3% of corporate turnover. Ladbrokes management stated that the company wished to comply with incoming UK laws regarding and would therefore continue to withdraw from such grey market territories.

    Boxing star Floyd Mayweather had a great Sunday betting on the National Football League, according to ESPN. He bet no less than $815,000 on the Broncos to beat the Jets by more than 7.5 points.     It's not the first time Mayweather gambles, earlier this year he put a staggering $13 million on the Broncos to win the Super Bowl.

    Bodog sportsbook founder Calvin Ayre, who allowed U.S. gamblers to make online bets on sports, casino games and poker despite the fact that U.S. authorities insisted that those actions were illegal, has been targeted for extradition by U.S. authorities, according to a recent story published by the The Calgary Herald.

     

    Ayre, along with James Philip, David Ferguson and Derrick Maloney, have been accused violating the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act for accepting money from U.S. gamblers to make bets after the law was passed in 2006.
