  • By the way I've always forgot that Zverev is a German player...blame his last name for that ;) and once again by the way...should be an achievment for a German player too...I don't know if they've had a top 10 player since Becker and Stich times maybe...don't remember if Kohlschreiber reach that hight ever...wasn't 11th his best ever ranking?

Recent ones.... very tough, for Kiefer I am pretty sure he was in top 10, and I'm certain that Haas was number 2! but that was all at the beginning of 2000s.

I've just found Rainer Schüttler :D wow, top 5 player, finalist of the AO , but again it was more than 10 years ago. I forgot about him. :)

To be honest didn't thought of any of them :-[

I would  forgive my self about Kiefer and Schüttler, didn't following the rankings that closely so I could miss players who were on the edge of top 10, briefly in and out, but didn't even thought of Tommy Haas that's what embarrassed me the most, didn't even remember he's been there even after I read that, could it be really great career but it was ruin by the injuries in the huge part of it.

  • Quite a few surprises yesterday, top seed Nishikori lost in the first round in Rio, young Zverev got defeated in Marseille, while in Delray Beach veteran Karlovic lost to Young. Also interesting in Delray Beach, veteran Tommy Haas lost to in-form Basilashvili.

Beginning of 2000s was specific in Serbia, and many TV stations started broadcasting tennis, so I was pretty much glued to the TV. :D and Haas was one of the players coming up with huge potential and great game. And I liked Kiefer, he could play really well.

To be honest I'm old enough to even watched some of the Becker matches, that's right ;) back then there was too few games televised here and I guess in the whole Eastern Europe.

I remember Becker - Henman on Wimbledon semi I think  against Edberg final on some tournament but don't remember which it was, the only Grand Slam televised regularly here in the early trough the middle of 90's was Roland Garros  and my memories are mostly from there in that period.

  • 18-year-old Norwegian player Casper Ruud reached the quarter-finals in Rio, we might have to watch out for this kid as he just entered the ATP World Tour last year.

  • Great semifinal lineups.

But for me the most interesting is the tournament in Rio. Nishikori has a chance to win a wooden spoon. :D

He lost Bellucci, who then lost to Monteiro, who lost to Ruud,  Now, if Ruud lose to Pablo, and then Pablo lose in the final, The Wooden Spoon will be Nishikori's.

  • We'll have an all-French final in Marseille, with Tsonga going for his second title in two weeks.

    ATP Marseille

    [4] L. Pouille (FRA) d [6] R. Gasquet (FRA) 75 63

  • No surprises in the semi-finals at Rio de Janeiro and Delray Beach, sad to see Ruud and Del Potro not making it to the finals.

  • Dominic Thiem has not  dropped a set all week en route to the Rio title, his eighth ATP crown. Tsonga has nine consecutive wins and lifted his second consecutive title after Rotterdam last week. Jack Sock was lucky to get his second ATP title as Raonic pulled out of the Delray Beach final.

  • What a draw for Djokovic in Acapulco! And this match against del Potro was simply amazing, a very high quality. I haven't seen him play with this much power, precision and clear head in a very long time. Next up Kyrgios. I'm curious what will happen in that match.

  • So many intriguing matches - that tie break between Murray and Kohlschreiber was just over half an hour. He never had any problems with Pouille. I haven't seen Pouille much this year, but I doubt Murray will have any issues in the semis. And surprising semifinalist there as well - Haase really used his chance.

Kyrgios served 25 aces this morning against Djokovic, and was almost unplayable on his serve. Except that last game when Djokovic played very poorly, I though that his level was very high. It will take some time to regain that confidence from before but at least his game is getting better.

    Edit:

Yes, Kyrgios' second serve average speed was around 200km/h!!! one double fault.

Is that mean Kyrgios hits both serves at maximum power, sorry if my question is dumb, didn't saw any of his matches for a while, maybe even for more than a year so forgot his style completely, would be impressive if he makes so few double faults in that case.

Haha, no one comes close to Serena. :D

I don't know.... I think his game was really good. The match against del Potro was fantastic at times. And againt Kyrgios, whenever he managed to get into points it was good, of course you cannot win every single point when you manage to get into a rally.

Yes, there was almost no difference between two serves. he smacked the ball as hard as he could and it worked. He plays very attractive game, powerful, (though I don't like his technique) but in that match it was the serve that brought him the win.

And about Djokovic's form, - i though he was playing better, but I've read many, many comments in which people were very disappointed, that del Potro was playing badly(which is ridiculous), and ever though Kyrgios was serving the way he served, "old" Djokovic would have beat him.

    Good luck!

  • Very surprising winner in Acapulco, but I guess all these big hitters used their chances in this really fast conditions. Nadal is playing good, hitting the ball really deep again, but... in some key moments he made mistakes, so that's kind of interesting. And his biggest weapon, movement, is simply isn't as good as it was, which is understandable.

  • Rain has delayed the final in Sao Paulo, it will be played on Monday if weather allows.
