  • Quite interesting semis in Montpelier, but I hope Zverev could spoil the all French party :)

Of course hoping for a Dimitrov final in Sofia too.

  • Of course hoping for a Dimitrov final in Sofia too.

Did you get tickets for the final? :P

  • Of course hoping for a Dimitrov final in Sofia too.

Did you get tickets for the final? :P

No I didn't get a ticket Johnny but I guess I could do that tomorrow if he's amongst the finalists, the arena is really close to the place I'm living so it could be done in the last minute I guess, although it won't be so easy to find one, the place would be probably packed full.

  • Zverev defeated Tsonga, he has a real shot at the Montpellier title against Gasquet in the final. Gasquet has won the last two editions, though, and another title here in 2013.

    ATP Montpellier

    Singles - Semi-finals

    [4] [WC] A. Zverev (GER) d [2] J. Tsonga (FRA) 67(6) 62 64

    [3] R. Gasquet (FRA) d B. Paire (FRA) 62 62

  • So, Dimitrov is in the final in Sofia and could become the first Bulgarian to win this tournament (last year it was won by Bautista Agut).

    ATP Sofia

    Singles - Semi-finals

    [2] D. Goffin (BEL) d [4] R. Bautista Agut (ESP) 57 64 76(3)

  • Great week for Lorenzi, he will play the final in Quito, the second ATP final of his career at the age of 35.

  • Three finals today, here are the odds at NetBet:

    ATP Montpellier

Richard Gasquet [FRA] vs  Alexander Zverev [GER]

    1.90 - 1.95

    Good luck!

  • Glad for the Dimitrov win in Sofia, I think he was quite nervous in the end when Goffin almost got back in the match from 5-1 down in second set.

Impressive Zverev who beat all the Frenchman guys at their soil to lift the title in Montpellier, so he really spoiled the locals party.

  • Great week for both Dimitrov and Zverev, the draws weren't easy and they both had great wins on the way.

It's interesting that Victor Estrella Burgos is the only player who has won at least three titles in one event and none anywhere else. :) He really likes Quito.

  • Third consecutive title for Estrella Burgos in Quito, he's making that tournament his own. Dimitrov grabbed his second title of the year and sixth overall, while Alexander Zverev spoiled the French party in Montpellier to clinch his second ATP title.

  • Great week for both Dimitrov and Zverev, the draws weren't easy and they both had great wins on the way.

Well, this week is slightly better for Dimitrov after he beat Zverev ;)

I'm really happy to see him finally starting using biggest part of his really great talent, not only because he's Bulgarian but because it could be really great for the game I believe.

  • Both Zverev brothers lost in the first round in Rotterdam, but they did have tough opponents. Querrey is out in Memphis, while in Buenos Aires Nishikori managed to fight back after losing the first set against Schwartzman.

Yes, I knew even there he's capable of winning some big tournaments but after that really poor season last year I think he's relieved to be back at this level because there's no guarantees you could return from a so deep hole.

I think so too, considering how good he's playing now he probably remembers that match in a good way, as a lesson learned, instead of dwelling on it - which is great. If he wins this tournament it will be great sign for the rest of the first part of the hard court season.

For clay, it will be interesting, there are some amazing clay court players at the top so I'm curious what he can do there.

  • So much about Grigor's great form, he lost to Goffin today in what was a revenge for the Belgium player for the loss in the final of Sofia tournament.

For clay, it will be interesting, there are some amazing clay court players at the top so I'm curious what he can do there.

I don't think the clay is his favourite surface but maybe his improved form will be carried there too, I think his better on grass, he's been an Wimbledon champion as a youth.

  • Top two seeds are out in Rotterdam, Herbert pulled off quite a big upset against Thiem. None of the seeded players reached the last four in Memphis, while in Buenos Aires Nishikori seems determined to go all the way.

I don't think the clay is his favourite surface but maybe his improved form will be carried there too, I think his better on grass, he's been an Wimbledon champion as a youth.

Yes, definitively grass is his surface. There are still a couple of huge hard-court tournaments, and then clay season is so exhausting, so it's a very long way to Wimbledon, but if he can maintain this form anything can happen then.

  • Oh both Thiem and Dimitrov lost today. Thiem just cannot get it going, or maybe he'll be great "only" clay-court player.

I think he has the shots to be more than that and today's players  are all-rounder more or less, his just in  really poor shape lately and maybe that's not so unusual for a young player like him, the huge rise and faults are quite understandable at that age I think, seems to me he has the character too.

  • Goffin will take on Tsonga in the Rotterdam final, should be a good match. In Memphis we'll have a final between two players that have never played an ATP final before, Basilashvili and Harrison. In Buenos Aires, Dolgpolov will play his first ATP final since 2012 against Nishikori, who has not won a title since last year's Memphis tournament.

  • Tsonga fought back after dropping the first set and captured his 13th ATP title. Goffin has something to celebrate as well, on Monday he will become the first ever Belgian player to reach the ATP top 10.

    ATP Rotterdam

    Singles - Final

    [6] J. Tsonga (FRA) d [3] D. Goffin (BEL) 46 64 61

  • Well that are two lost finals for Goffin in a week, this is going to heard for a while, I don't think the top 10 place would consoled him at all. In the end the rankings means a lot more to the journalists and the fans but the players cares if they winning or not (especially the finals) In the end if you're N10 or N11 in the rankings doesn't mean almost anything when they creating most  tournaments draws.

Of course that doesn't mean he wont be proud of the achievement  to be the first (the only) Belgium player in top 10 someday probably after he had finished his career but just imagine if he had been US or German player - that would literally mean nothing.

  • Ryan Harrison won his first ever ATP title in Memphis, the 24-year-old cruised past Basilashvili in the final. Big upset in Buenos Aires, top seed Nishikori lost to Dolgopolov and the Ukrainian won his third ATP title. It's quite interesting to note that Dolgopolov came into the tournament after having lost ten of his last eleven matches!

Really glad for Ryan Harrison, his first title. He was considered a big talent, had many problems and injuries, so maybe now he will show a bit of his potential.

Yeah being 11th or 10th seed in a draw is not much of a different but in a career, it's a huge one, at least in my opinion. To be able to say, I was a top 10 player, that is a big deal. So yes, even though that at the moment he will be disappointed, he will gain confidence for breaking the top 10. Whether he'll be able to stay there, hard to say, there are a couple of big players just behind him. :)

Of course that doesn't mean he wont be proud of the achievement  to be the first (the only) Belgium player in top 10 someday probably after he had finished his career but just imagine if he had been US or German player - that would literally mean nothing.

Hmmm not sure about this. Tennis is an individual sport, you are playing first and foremost  for yourself.  For example, Alexander Zverev, when he breaks into top 10, he won't be completely satisfied not because many Germans were there before him, but because he wants to be number 1. And it would still mean a lot.

But i do agree if you think about being remembered. I mean there have been a lot of top ten players but how many of them we actually remember (aside all the legends)? Not many.  but again, it doesn't have to do much with nationality. If you are a great player, you're a great player regardless the nationality.

Hard to argue with any of that.

Yes agreed, what I've meant is that it  would be tough for the media making highlights of  let's say 33rd US player who ever make it in top 10 but for the first Belgian to do it's  a news and in fact it's more of a symbolic meaning for me than a real significant achievment. But in fact it could influence certain players confidence probably.

By the way I've always forgot that Zverev is a German player...blame his last name for that ;) and once again by the way...should be an achievment for a German player too...I don't know if they've had a top 10 player since Becker and Stich times maybe...don't remember if Kohlschreiber reach that hight ever...wasn't 11th his best ever ranking?
