  • bad kicker blue but u low on chips so say a prayer and allin

  • I did call as I figured I was in the lead with the Ace kicker.

The players revealed their cards and one had jh.gif  qs.gif and the other one has  ks.gif  ad.gif

The turn was kd.gif and the river was  as.gif

So I was in the lead on the flop but ended up losing to a hand that had nothing.  Such is poker I guess.

    blue

  • I'm very short stacked (164 chips) and I'm the Dealer.  I'm dealt qs.gif  9s.gif

2 players flat calling the Big Blind.

Bearing in mind I have position here - would you go all in with this hand?

    blue

  • I would probably fold, you still can get something better until the big blind gets to you. But an all in also isn't a bad move, you can get a flush or a straight.

It is important what type of tournament this is, how many players are still in there. If you are at the final 2-3 tables, and you can win something better if someone else gets out before you do, i think the best option is to fold and wait.

    Mike

  • It was a 10 seater sitngo with 9 players left.

    blue

  • I've revised my response several times over the last hour

(its hard playing 2 or 3 tourny's and manage to write a reply that makes sense, because these windows keep popping up saying is my turn and taking my cursor away, but i have not noticed yet. so i end up halfway educating those playing against me. UUHHHH!) LOL

In short... I would only go all in if I was sure it would make 1 or both players fold. If not, I would flat call to see the flop and then decide if i wanted to go all in.

Thus hopefully extending my tournament play.

  • if the blinds are lower than your stack, my answer is fold

  • I have to throw 1 in the middle here. My apologies but i been getting slapped around all day at the tables. Towards what would have been the end of my day, things began to get interesting.... And My severe frustrations began to subside....

  • Full tilt $150 free roll starting every 2 hours i believe.

    My hand of the week

avg stack 24k. tourny running for 2hrs with 550 of 7500 remaining entrants. Blinds 150/300 ante 25.

I have the big blind sporting Ad 4d. For the most part, what i see happening this late in free roll tourny's, is that there is not much going on pre flop.  People seem to be grasping the fact that even if you make it to cash in a free roll these days, considering the amount of time spent playing the damn thing, we could have made more money working in a sweatshop in a third world country. No ones in a hurry to get knocked out so why get crazy?

10 seat table. i have seat 2, seats 5 and 8 limp in behind me.

Seat 9 seems to be getting cocky because for the 2nd time in the last few hands he raises 4x BB preflop, after a long period of only limping in or flat calling.

He's got me slightly out-stacked by around 3k, I have 10k. With both of us well under-stacked  to the avg 24k of the tourny. A fact unnoticed by me since play at our table has been very mild. All seem too be playing to a loosely tight momentum. Several players in each hand, raising rarely above the minimum bet.

To continue on... I'm feeling brave so I decide to call...

    Seat 5 calls and seat 8 folds out. THE FLOP :  3, 5, 6.....

Figure I'll split post it to keep it interesting and not overwhelm readers.

  • I could use some feedback on this. Please let me know what you think..

Too long, too short, is there a clear picture painted, is the situation overly detailed, seen better writing from an under par 5th grader attending public school in the ghetto?

  • It's perfectly written orren.

So what did you do....hmm.  If you were first to act, I would have bet at least the pot to show hand strength as a "tester" bet.  The pot's not huge and you can afford to take this small risk.    You have an open ended straight and a nice Ace kicker so if you hit the ace, you got top pair.  I guess the obvious answer would be to "check" and see what happens.but I would certainly bet the pot.

    blue

  • Im sitting here thinking you did not tell us what happened to your hand Blue... Then i realize that i cut you off, then did not even have the decency to be quick about it. You have my apologies..

Was a bit cracked out this morning having been up too long tweaking off of "No Fear" and some sort of herbal supplement and lots of candy.

That being said, its no big surprise that i might have gotten slightly carried away with my hand description, but its funny to me so I will post as it.

  • Part 2 of previous post

Flop: 3, 5, 6 all diamonds, giving me the nut flush (hole cards Ad 4d)

Maybe the only time I have flopped what I call the "Absolute Nuts". Meaning that there are no cards that could possibly be drawn to beat my hand. Although in this case there was a cold chance in hell a straight flush could come out, but i'm 99.9% sure he is not holding any diamonds and i'll shoot lightning out my rear when I sneeze and fry him before he gets the diamonds and the draw card to beat my hand.

Since i'm first to act i figure he's got something to be raising pre-flop, an irregularity in his play. I bet the minimum, 300. Seat 5 calls, the mark raises to 1500. I take a second as to hesitate and call. Seat 5 folds.

The turn card is 10s, but the the gladiotor of poker gods could have fallen on the table and i still would have been re-raised, maintaing a straight face.I posessed a masters degree in the art of poker sales and I raised 750 pushing the idea of me holding the "A" betting on the flush draw. Instantly raised up to 3k. I call.

River is 8c and i sell it home with a check. The mark puts me all in for my remaining 5k as he realizes his forgery could'nt sell because I already posessed the original. Kc Qc were his hole cards.

Took down the pot of 23,919 more than doubling my stack

  • You never mentioned they were diamonds that flopped

Fantastic outcome.   So the other guy was all in for not even a pair.

I hope you went on to win some cash in this one.

Regarding my hand.  I was extremely low stacked (181 chips and the blinds were 50/100) and I just had "that gut feeling" that you get sometimes and decided to call.

The flop was kh.gif  kc.gif  9d.gif.  The others players checked.  The turn was 5h.gif.  They all checked again.  The river was  3c.gif and one player bet 200 and one called.  The side pot was won by the betting player who had  ac.gif  3h.gif and my 9s held and I won the main pot.

So it was probably a bad call but that gut feeling was enough for me.

    blue

  • I honestly would argue with anyone that tells you that you made a bad play, you won.

Do not ever tell yourself you made a bad play if it paid. The worst  any honest person can say about a play that wins is that it was an unwise risk for the reward.

One thing i will tell you from a lot of experience playing cash games. At the table people want you to tell them why you played a hand the way you did. They will use many different approaches to get that info. Most often mad they lost is the excuse. So they can then take that information to use against you. Never give them a real answer, if at all possible give them a response that pisses them off (unless in live table play at casino and it may cause you harm). That way they're game gets thrown off even more.  >:D

A lot of the time we make the rite play and loose. You don't beat yourself up for making the rite play and loosing. You curse the dealer/ poker site for being rigged and then put down the player who won for being a lucky, no skill having donkey.

  • Well said orren.  Thank you.

I'd love to see a few more of your hands in this thread.

    blue

  • I've been beyond broke for a while. I have run out of free rolls to play and i actually have $20 i can put on my card. Think i will go do that and then see how long i can make it last.

My problem tends to be that i play at sites that have a casino and whenever i win at poker, i go loose part or all to the casino. And when i win in the casino i go and play some sloppy donkalicious poker.

Lets find out if I cant maintain some level of discipline as well..

  • Poker

is a game of chance. Your winning the game depends very heavily on the hand you have, but there is a certain amount of strategy that you can incorporate into your game that can, help you overcome that hand when used correctly.

  • This pic is from a $2 sitngo at Full Tilt.

I was posting and folding and this was the first "reasonable" hand that I'd had.  Being the dealer, I decided to call the small raise.  The BB decided to just throw his chips into the pot and both players to my right had folded.

Taking into account the small stack that BB had.....what would you have done?

    what_would_you_do.png

  • I'd probably call.I like A's & 8's anyways and they are suited,so I'd call and hope I didn't regret it!!

  • I'm fairly reckless a good amount of the time so its likely that I would call. In that exact scenario. It would depend if I had been fairly irritated from lack of playable cards, in  which case I would definitely call. On the other hand if I was calm, collected and thinking clearly. I would fold anticipating being shafted.

  • So what did you do?

  • Yes I did call.  I figured he was just trying to steal the blinds.

Seems he liked his hand but fortunately for me, I won.

I went on to cash out in this tourney.  As you can see, it's a 6 seater tourney and we got down to the two paying places and the opponent asked if I wanted to deal.  He was quite  a good player so I decided to deal and whilst I was a few chips in the lead during this hand, he actually won the hand which put him slightly ahead.  I got $5.99 and he got $6.01.  I was very happy with the result.

  • Good going blue :-bd

  • Your holding qh.gif  kh.gif in a really cheap R & A tournament and you've limped into the pot.  The play has been pretty bad up to now (lots of all ins on rubbish like 73 suited 10, 7 offsuit etc).  There are 3 players in the pot and the BB is unraised.

    The flop comes down qs.gif  tc.gif  8h.gif.

First to act immediately goes all in, 2nd to act folds and now it's my turn.  What would you do?

    blue

  • No matter the size of my stack, nor my ability to rebuy. I absolutely would call.

  • call

  • Yep,me too!!!And the answer is????LOL

  • Yes I did call and the other player had 3c.gif  3d.gif.  He didn't hit another 3 so I won the hand and he actually went out.  I guess he ran out of money to rebuy.

Thanks for your replies you wonderful faithful few.

    blue

  • That's us the wonderful few LOL ;) and congrats to you blue !!

  • Thank you Rose.

It would be nice if one of you guys (or gals) posted a "what would you do" hand.  :-*

    blue

  • I would not bet the river but call his river bet. He will bet with a missed flush draw or an Ace, but if the bet is not too much I would call it to get value of his missed flush hands

  • Thank you Rose.

I've got no patience to wait for responses hun. I hit a good or bad hand and I gots to tell all or nothin. lol

I tell you what I could do though. I could give you a few hand descriptions from my play and basically all you would have to do is split it in half.

I know... I'm a strange one, but hey... Somethings better than nothing (insert cheesy grin).

  • Do that then orren.  Send me a couple of your hands and I'll post them.

  • The poker hand for this week comes from Orren (thank you for that).

As you can see pocket kings are raised all in post flop  and called by a 2nd player (big chipstack).

What would you do?  Do you think someone has a pocket pair and hit trips or they are chasing the flush?

  • I was sitting in my regular R10/20 blind no-limit hold’em cash-game recently with R2500 in front of me when an interesting pot came up. I had been super tight since I sat down during a long card dead period when loose 1 dimensional aggressive player with roughly a full stack R3000 opened for R100 in middle position. I looked down at two black kings in the hole and decided to smooth call. From here LINK REMOVED you may get more information on poker hands.

  • Jacksrain - this is the 2nd time you have had a link removed from one of your posts.  If you persist in posting advertising links, Admin (Zuga) will be asked to deal with you.  Please refrain from advertising your links.

    Thank you.

  • I hope they are not chasing the flush but have pocket pairs and hit trips.I've done the flush chasing and went down in flames LOL.I hopefully have learned my lesson.

  • So what would you have done Rosebud?  Call or fold?

    blue

  • iff u lucky he got ak but looks like aa

  • Well blue, with pocket pairs I'd probably call and hope for the best.

  • I would have called too.

As you can see, this was a really sick beat and the worst hand won with trips.

    Unlucky Orren!

  • Bad beat for sure!! Don't ya just love it when the worst hand wins....ahh noooooo!!!LOL!! Sorry orren that is just so sad.

  • hmm story of my life lost today with kk/28

  • hmm story of my life lost today with kk/28

So unlucky Jos. Where were you playing?

    blue

  • You are dealt qh.gif  qs.gif.

The players are crazy!  Calling large raises and getting lucky on the river, hitting trips after going all in with pocket 3's, calling with Ace rag all the time...you get the picture here.

You are first to act and you flat call BB for a mere 50 chips.  No raise I hear you ask?  No I didn't raise simply because of the poor play and the unlucky flops and rivers on the great hands.  Two players fold and the next player raises all in for 1440 which means virtually my entire stack is needed to call.  Everyone else folds and it's my turn.

What would you do taking into account everything above.

    blue

  • Well it depends on a lot of things for me at least. Is this a freeroll or did you buy in? How much if you bought in, rebuys avail? How long has the tourny been running, are you remotely close to the bubble if it is a MTT?

    The breakdown...

Freeroll - $3 buy in with or without rebuy.

Unless its late in the tourny and bubble is near, I'm callin. Even if it puts me all in. (granted I dont have 3x the average stack or more)

+$3 buy in and can't afford rebuy/ can barely afford rebuy/ rebuy not avail.

With 10x the BB or more remaining stack after calling, good chance of call. Other than that, with so little put in pot and the $ at risk. Only a fool like myself or a rookie would make that call. Its just not worth it, even if you know they're playing with 7 2os. This is what separates the players that have put in real time and continuously make $ and those that continuously loose $.

In conclusion..... I give is a 50/50 of me callin or folding, Depending on my mood, how my play has gone the past hour, how much $ I have left in bankroll and how frisky I'm feelin.

    ;D >:( 8) :P >:D

  • I'd call...just cuz I like to live life on the wild side LOL LOL but seriously Id take in the fact that they are playing with rubbish...and winning :-pp and yep...call and hope for the best. ;D

  • It was a $1 + 10c MTT with 45 players max.
