  • Now down to 8 players (TV table) - Mike Sexton was knocked out by Antonio Esfandiari (chip leader).  Esfandiari held 63 off and hit his 2nd pair on the turn.  If Sexton had moved all in after the flop, Esfandiari would likely have folded.

See the screeny attached for Sexton's losing hand.

  • Ilya Bulychev was just knocked out on the bubble and 9 players remain.

That is one bubble that must be pure hell to go out on... Do you know if any of the amateurs are left now?

    katt

    There are some left Katt:

Bobby Baldwin - Chief Design and Construction Officer, MGM Resorts

Guy Laliberté - Founder, Cirque de Soleil, One Drop Canada

    Richard Yong - Businessman

David Einhorn - Hedge Fund Manager

Should be a great final table.  The ESPN stream is being shown on WSOP official site so I will get to see some of it.

63 off... I guess foolish comes in all levels of play... LOL

The commentators the other day did not think much of Einhorn's chances but I thought he was playing pretty well... good to see he is hanging in there!

Glad you will get to see the final table / end of game via the stream.

I love watching them tho...makes me understand what a novice I am !! :-X LOL

  • The latest very brief update on day 2 of the WSOP Big One for One Drop

  • Another short update on the play in the Big One for One Drop day 3 final table....HERE.

Not too much action at the moment but I have no doubt things will have changed by the time I get up in the morning.

  • I just tuned in and it appeared the players were returning from a break... there are 7 players left now... uh oh Bobby Baldwin just bit the dust in 7th place.

I just watched Trickett (chip leader) go up against Laliberte holding an 89 off. Laliberte won the $8,400,000 pot...

    katt

  • Now it is down to 5... Rast held an Ace high Flush and went all in against Trickett... alas for Rast, Trickett had quad 3's...

    Exciting game to watch!

    katt

  • This is a definite first for me... the next player to go out was wearing a blue clown nose and his opponent was wearing a red one... and they held onto each other standing up kissed on the cheeks while the cards were being flopped. Laliberte had QQ and Esfandiari had AK off... Flop, no help, the turn was a K, and the river was no help. What a hand!

    katt

  • Hellmuth then Einhorn went out... now Esfandiari and Trickett are heads up... Esfandiari has almost 2 times the chips that Trickett does.

    katt

  • The final hand has been played... I am quite happy with the outcome, the winner is a good player and a good guy... Antonio Esfandiari has won the biggest single cash prize in the history of sports! And he has been awarded a one of a kind platinum bracelet in honor of his win. He won with trip 5's with Trickett trying to fill a diamond flush.

    What a riveting poker tournament!

    katt

  • Thanks Katt for all the updates as and when it happened.

    Thanks again for the updates.

  • You're welcome blue... I hope I didn't steal your thunder reporting it while you slept, but it was just so exciting...

I loved the hand with the clown noses. When Laliberte went out he was just as happy and smiling as he had been while playing. It was quite a sight. Then he got to come back since he was the sponsor of the whole one drop game and award the platinum bracelet to Esfandiari when he won the tournament. Way too cool!

  • I wished I could have stayed up all night to watch it.  I was enjoying it so much.  I loved the banter and the feel and excitement of the game.

I managed to find a free stream on a free sports related website but it kept going off for the ESPN adverts....too many advert breaks that's for sure.

  • I played in a game yesterday, a freeroll, and one player lost quite a few chips to a British player. The language this preson came out with was disgraceful. The following hand, I took a lot of chips off him - I had the better starting hand and hit top pair. This person raised all in and I called and all they had was bottom pair. I hit trip kings and beat him although my pair of Kings were good enough all the way to the river....read more

Most Poker Rooms have the option to "Mute" a specific players chat. I always suggest people utilize this option and quickly in these sorts of cases. Don't give them the time of day, an audience to rant to (Acknowledging their statements tends to just fuel the fire) and definitely don't let them distract you or throw you off your game.

  • That is what I do too!! Ignore...Ignore...Ignore,otherwise all you can hope for is to moved to another table!

  • I'm inclined to agree to a certain extent but I don't see why these muppets should get away with it tbh.  He did make himself look like a complete idiot - a good result in my book.  I marked him too with one of my "subtle" notes.

I don't think it was a lot of work for him to make himself look like a complete idiot... That would be like going as himself to a costume party! LOL For my part, I know what goons these people are that can't keep civil while playing a game so I just let them rant and just watch them tilt themselves. It really is usually amusing.

That is until they start whipping out the F bomb or the C word. Or when they say really crude things about people's mothers or make racial hate comments. At that point I think they should be reported and have reported them myself in the past. As blue says, there is no reason to accept such treatment or even be exposed to it.

I don't usually try to reason with them. My daddy always told me you can't argue with idiots or drunks!

  • Make no mistakes, in no way do I believe language intended to be abusive should be tolerated or gone without consequences. Some poker rooms store chat along with hand history, for those that do not, screen shots should be taken. I just meant to not allow it to distract your attention to the game more than necessary and report it at a time more convenient (depending on the magnitude of the language of course).

  • I had AK suited and decided to raise the pot pre-flop. Most of the players folded except for two who called. The flop came on the table and if my memory serves me correctly, it was a 249 rainbow flop. A total miss on the flop for me. I was first to act and if I checked, I would show my weakness so I bet half the pot. One player folded and one called. The next card was another 4. Again, if I checked I would show a hand weakness on the other side of the coin, if I bet (and it needed to be a reasonable bet as the pot was growing), I might be chucking my chips away...read more

  • Excellent insight and advice blue. I learned about continuation betting from you and have not forgotten it. But I do have a tendency to show my weakness when a flop goes as wrong as that one did for you today.

I underbet the continuation and it is not convincing. Or I back down altogether many times. I need to buck up sometimes in the face of a disastrous flop after coming out strong pre-flop. Of course I need to come out stronger pre-flop too, as I limp in too often and let the tough player at the table take my money.  :(

    katt

  • I do recall that some time ago and it really highlighted it yesterday.

I think it is "risky" but it has to be done. One just has to get that continuation bet just right.

  • Well, I needed to immediately put this in practice so it will stick in my head better. I bought in to a SnG for $ .11 and used continuation betting whenever it made sense. It was a pretty good game and I kept the lead by a good margin most of the game and much of that was due to practicing my continuation betting. I finished in second place and won $ .18  $$ LOL

  • Interesting subject blue. I never really thought about using software to help my game. I have used a list that showed hands to play all the time, never, and by position at the table. I only use it once in a while, when I feel I am getting off track. Thanks.

  • The "NUTSHELL" news for this week.

  • Hey guys, just thought I would point out that Carbon poker has a free poker odds Calculator / hand history with graph's / player tracker. I have not used this software because most player tracker software that exists forces you to upload your hand history to give it to the other users to use against you. I don't know if this software does, but I'm not willing to give an advantage to get one in return. LOL

The cake network also has an extensive hand history report software with graph's and all that. I believe its available on all of its poker rooms. It is already part of the existing software, no need to download anything additional. If you need help finding it, I can give a walk through.
