At one point I was big blind and I was dealt pocket aces. I hadn't really played a proper hand as such since the game started. I was hoping that one of the early positions would make a move with their 520 chips left and happily, they raised all in. Everyone folded except the dealer who also was all in with 480 chips. I immediately called both of them and even if I had lost, I would have still had around 800 chips left. Certainly enough chips to get me back into the game.....read more

Well, that blue, is one darn good question! All of these sites that are asking for our money and giving little in return are on borrowed time these days I think.

The US is moving steadily toward launching their own boat into this race and it will be a big blow to those sites currently "serving" the US players. There are very few of them that will garner any loyalty from players here for the very reasons you state in your blog.

I know my list of go to poker rooms is steadily dwindling... when even little things like the Tux Poker FunStep games that really cost them nothing, make a big difference. At least I know that I can log in there any day or night of the week and play a game of hold 'em...

It's a frustrating situation Katt not just for you guys but also for me.  I visit USA poker sites every day hoping that something will have changed.  The best example I can give is 1Bet2Bet Poker.  Nothing has changed on there in as long as I can remember.

I have no doubt that when poker is legalized and the licenses are being bought, the offers and promotions will come flooding in.  May that day come sooner rather than later.

If music be the food of love.....read on

Blue you have done it again with this blog subject... I have never thought about it at all. I usually just have something on the TV in the background to look at if the play gets slow or I am getting no cards to play a hand with...

But as I read this, I started thinking about how much I enjoy having music when I play slots at 3Dice... I have every kind of music available on my TV and my computer and am going to try playing it when I play my next game of poker. I hope to eventually put together a selection of music that is best for me while playing.

ok blue, here is where I should say that I like BOTH kinds of music... Country AND Western! But that is just for fun! I really have an eclectic taste in music... I like almost all of it... except perhaps opera...

If I had to choose which is my favorite type I would have to say since I am a psychedelic relic it is classic rock from the 60's and 70's. But, I am thinking some of that might not have the right poker effect! LOL

MIght just do better with Celtic music which I find very soothing. But a mix of different genres will probably be what I work out...

I just wrote a long reply and somehow closed the window when I went to save it so I will try to repeat it...

I said, "Blue, you have given me a new perspective on opera with these selections. I can't deny the incredible beauty of each piece. I think my problem with opera is that I don't understand the words. So, as I listened to each selection the second time, I looked up the lyrics translated into English and this helped a lot. I could understand the emotions behind the music. Thanks blue."

Sounds like time to count your lucky stars that you don't have what it takes to do this! Pretty empty game if you could.

So, what to do with this player? Hmmmm... my instinct is to wait him out until you get moved to another table or until someone else has the temerity to go up against them and actually pulls it off... then let the game begin.

What happens in actuality? I try to do what my instinct says, but eventually I have to venture out and take a run at this player... and as with you blue, down I go in flames...

I will go up against them if I have a top notch hand but even then, there is of course, no guarantee. 

Patience is the key  - you are right; hope to be moved.

So here is a classic example of the lucker getting lucky. 

This was a pre-flop raise firstly by lynngeerink and I re-raised the pot hoping to shake off the BB lucker but alas he re-raised my re-raise.

The last card took a long time to show (I guess the RNG was thinking about how to make the BB/table chip leader the winner).  I have seen this delay a lot on this site and other sites of course including PKR and Party Poker.

As you can see, the only cards the lucker could win on was either a 9 or an ace and glory be, he got the ace.

What is the advantage to the poker room to have things work that way... if the RNG is truly as close to random as possible then why?! and how?! Dang it.

It is pretty unbelievable Katt.  I was gutted especially hitting those trips on the flop. I thought I had it in the bag.  Such is life or rather, such is poker.

Anyway, onto brighter and better things....

Network problem or could not load file!

It is playing now, but is really not a good stream to watch. Apparently the table they are showing with Phil Ivey got moved just before the game started and their cameras aren't set right. They have done a bit to improve it, but I can't really see what is going on or what cards are flopped... The said they will try to fix it during the dinner hour and maybe then it will be watchable.

It is running much better now. Still can't see the player's faces and the cards at the same time, but it is ok and can be followed now.

I just heard about the following play at one of the tables:

Guy folded 8d, 8h face up on Js8c7s8sKs.

Mikhail Smirnov did indeed fold quad eights to John Morgan.

Tom Dwan had opened and received a call from Smirnov and Morgan before the Js, 8c, 7s fell on the flop. Dwan checked and Smirnov bet. Morgan called and Dwan folded.

The turn was the 8s and Smirnov bet 200,000. Morgan called within five seconds and looked extremely excited about the hand.

The river completed the board with the Ks and Smirnov bet 700,000. Morgan raised all in for 3.4 million total and Smirnov tank-folded the 8d, 8h face up for all to see.

So I ask you...... did Morgan have the straight flush? Don't know.. 8'|

wow that was a crazy fold with quad eights...i would have thought he had jacks or pocket kings maybe...i would have been busted out with my eights though because unless there is 4 to the strt flush showing,  there is only one possible two card hand that can be a winner.....he probably was bluffing lol
