Bordeaux is a town in south-west France and is a prefecture of the department of Gironde and is the chief town in the region of Aquitaine. Locals are called Bordelais or Bodelaises. It’s a rather large town (a city by most standards), ranking 9th in France in terms of population. With the surrounding metro area, the population is around 725,000 people, placing it fifth behind Paris, Lyon, Lille and Marseille. Nicknames attributed to the area are ‘the pearl of Aquitaine’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’. People are probably most familiar with Bordeaux by its world-renowned vineyards. The area has ample attractions, particularly churches and museums. There's also several parks to stroll through, relax in, and admire the flora.

The Great Place Express is open Mondays through Thursdays, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm, Fridays, same lunch hours and dinners extended until midnight, Saturdays, noon to 2:30 pm and 7-12, and Sundays noon to 2:30 pm, 7-11. La Carina, overlooking the salon table games, serves south-west and traditionally inspired dishes.

Keep your eyes peeled for various festivals throughout the year, like the International Festival of Organ, the International Festival of Classical Music, the Festival of Bordeaux Rock, the Bordeaux Jazz festival and the Bordeaux Congo Square. Religious sites in the area include the Church of St Paul, the Holy Cross Abbey, the Basilica of Saint-Seurin, the Basilica of Saint-Michel, and the Saint Andrew’s Cathedral. Local museums include the National Museum of Customs, the Natural History Museum, Musee d’Aquitaine, and the Museum of Fine Arts.
