Lacanau is located in the department of Gironde and the region of Aquitaine in south-western France, part of the Medoc Lakes which also includes the municipality of Carcans Hourtin. For aperitifs and coffees, try the Paddock Bar, also with fresh fruit juices and cocktails. Enjoy drinks indoors or out on the terrace by the pool. Make use of the resort facilities for volleyball, badminton or golf, or use the spa, with its aromatherapy, swimming pool, Jacuzzi and steam room. Enquire about swimming lessons and water aerobics. Head to the waterfront with its sandy beaches ideal for sunning and swimming, or for water activities like sailing or kite-surfing. Surfing is very popular here. If you’d sooner take in the environment and enjoy leisurely strolls head to Lake Lacanu. Or try hiking through the blue pine forest of Landes. Religious sites include the Church of St Vincent (in Lacanau-Ville), dating back to the 18th century, or the Notre-Dame des Flots, from the 20th century. Other attractions include the Pierre Ortal monument (1906).
