Yes, as the title suggests, i have not slept for 36 hours now, i am really really tired, at 10 pm last night 4 or 5 people aged about 20-30 broke into my flat and punched me, and stole my mobile and a pack of cigarettes,
i was actually about to sleep when it happened, my anxiety now is totally out of control and i just been to the doctors to get some diazepan, my door hasnt been fixed yet, i am still waiting for them to fix it i am totally in a very very bad shape
i have been in this flat for about 16 months, i am totally confused as what the motive was other than the fact they kept asking for someone called *** not saying the name for reasons im in a really bad way, really tired and scared to death

Omg that is horrible Lucky. Did you get hurt and did you fill out a police report?I I am very sorry to hear this and suffering from anxiety has to make it all worse.
I can't even begin to imagine how frightened you must of been. Home invasions are so scary. Please take it easy and try to relax and rest.
I am so happy you are ok knowing it could of been much worse.
I hope a friend can come stay with you so you are not alone or you can get away from flat for a few days.

Awww Lucky that is awful. Are you hurt? I'm very worried about you. Do you have someone that you can stay with for a few days so you can try to relax? Oh my that's horrible. Be safe Lucky. I wonder if that person lived there before you. May be worth asking the landlord and reporting to the police.

im in tears reading these replys, thank you, i just woke up about 30 mins ago, the diazepan helped a bit, i got a few hours sleep last night and 4 hours this morning, it is now 4:15am, i am soo totally shocked that this happened, and yes, i was on the phone to the police when all this happened and the police said (dont panic) just as they kicked the door in, they went away the first time and came back 15 mins later and that time happened soo fast, they just came straight in, 1 kick it took, i did all the police stuff, but the police dont think they will ever catch who did it, it took 36 mins for the police to attend too, shocking service and when they did attend it was 1 lady officer all by herself, i was soo shocked it was 1 lady officer by herself, i made a complaint about that too, the inspector agreed with me on that 1 too and that you are totally right, she should not be by herself at that time of night.
and blueday i dont want to disclose where i live in the forum, it is not a safe area, but i lived here for 6 and a half years in 2 different flats and was ok up and till now
thanks for all the kind words, i will keep taking the diazepan and see how it goes, and yes i have had my dad with me the last 2 nights, he came last night when it happened and stayed this morning too, he is asleep on the sofa now while im typing, im just soo shocked, cant believe it, everyone i have told said, i was very very lucky that, that was all what happened
thanks again everyone

So sorry to hear this Lucky, I can only imagine what you went through. I had a break-in a few years ago but luckily I wasn't in the apartment and they didn't take anything either although some money were just lying on the table. Anyway, I hope you will recover quickly from this shocking event.

I have a big dog that stays outside. And I keep a gun inside. I recommend you do the same.
MindDoc, he can't I believe as he is in the UK and they restrict gun and even knives there...Not like the USA when we can buy all the guns and ammo we want...But then again, criminals will ignore the laws in all respects.
Lucky, I am glad you're ok. -

we can protect ourselfs now in the uk, but we cant use guns or knives, but if we do end up killing someone now in the uk, it is now classed as self defence, finally the law is working now in our favour, maybe that is another reason why the police are more relaxed, because they know about this new law that has just been introduced, there has been a few recent storys of people getting broken into and killing the intruder and not getting into trouble for it, because of the new rule
(but i cant protect myself) (maybe i need to get some self protection lessons or something)
but i shouldnt need too to be honest we all should feel safe at home, but we just obviously cant...
can i also say, i just finally got my first 6 hour sleep since it has happened, so i can now at least think a bit more clearly now my brain has slept a bit better
i hope this never happens to anyone else it is the most terrifying thing in the world,
ok thanks everyone for the kind words and support, really appreciate them, i now have to try sort everything out and stuff

i had some news today about my flat, my landlady has been very kind and caring, but a big but, she is going to make my flat as secure as it can be, BUT... i just cant see myself coping when i go back there, and she even said she will take a reduction in the rent, i think she knows im not going to cope well being in it
so i dont know what to do, i feel the flashbacks are just going to keep coming back everytime i hear a noise in the comunal area of the block of flats i live in, im really scared to death of going back there even if the door is really secure, it can still be kicked down again even if it takes more kicks, i bet it could still be

You are right to feel scared RJ, but let me say, don't let the bad people in this world dictate how you will live your life. It just gives them all the power they want.
That said, since you can't have the big dog and a gun, some other precautions might be helpful and good for your peace of mind.
My fave is keeping a can of Wasp&Hornet spray close at hand. You can spray this from a much greater distance than things like pepper spray. It will temporarily blind an intruder, giving you time to escape. Could give time for the police to arrive before they recover from the spray.
I also keep a tire knocker that looks like a small baseball bat nearby. Easier to swing than a full size bat...

Wow, This is crazy. I'm glad you are ok RJ and I hope you can start to feel somewhat safe at home after some new security is added. Did they catch the people?
[/quote]
no they didnt, the police dont think they ever will
I can understand why you are scared Lucky, I would be too.
I hope the secure door IS a secure door and will give you the comfort you need to know you are safe.
Keep us posted.

i will keep the forum posted blueday

i know loads of small little improvements will help a little, but i will still think about how many kicks will it take to kick my door down, so it doesnt matter how secure they make the door, i will still think it can be kicked in easy, because of what i have already been through,
i will be having locks on my living room and bedroom doors too, and i will try get a camera, i will also keep a hammer in every room, and yes i will get some spray or something, i am also thinking of putting a cooker i have in the spare bedroom in front of the front door and just move it when i want to go out.
all these things will help a little, but it doesnt take away the fact it is the flat it happened in..
thanks again everyone

Hey RJ just a quick note about the spray... don't just get any spray, get wasp and hornet spray. It will blind them as I said (temporarily) but the big reason is that this spray is designed to spray about 25 feet fairly accurately because it is used to spray wasp's nests with out getting up close and personal... don't let the intruder get close enough to hit you again!

I can understand your fear and even with new locks the scenario that played out keeps rewinding in your head.
I don't know if time will make it any easier but if possible i would consider moving. I think you mentioned before you have anxiety and this is not a comfortable environment to be in if that's the case.
Being under this kind of stress just isn't worth it and really wish you the best.
