South Africa has been dealing with the topic of online gambling legislation for the past ten years and the issue continues to attract media attention as politicians go back and forth.
Most recently, the National Gambling Board has stepped in as politicians discuss a new bill filed by the official Opposition, the Democratic Alliance.
National Gambling Board manager, Estelle Jonkheid, spoke at a seminar regarding online gambling and informed delegates that the Board was developing a multi-disciplinary task force comprised of law enforcement agencies, gambling regulators and existing license holders.
This task force is being put together to “...consider strategies, interventions and actions” against unlicensed operators illegally offering online gambling services in the South African market.
It is assumed that the initiative has the support of Casino Association of South Africa chief exec Themba Ngobese, who opposes online gambling due to the effect on the land based casinos.
Although there is serious opposition to the legalization of online gambling, there are still some officials that feel there is a place for it in South Africa. Among these supporters is the chair of the government's Trade and Industry Committee, Louise Fubbs, who believes legislation would regulate and protect punters as well as generate additional revenue.

Obviously the situation in South Africa with the online gambling is very conflict and from what I've read in this news it's nowhere near to conclusion. Like Chinas said it his comment the online gambling is opportunity for economic growth and job creation in the country but as of now don't seems like that any of these things...

Only reason the ruling party that being the ANC is trying to make it completely illegal is because they are not happy about how much they could steal as it would leave a very evident paper trail of the theft and corruption they so used to practicing, DA party wants it legal as it would be benificial for economic growth and job creation in this country but unfortunately government here is only concerned of what can be stolen... If you don't believe me look up " nklandla" or Jacob Zumas past criminal convictions and it's easy to say and see that they practically running a Dog Show and clueless how to run a country. Hopefully the opposition party can get this online gambling issue sorted out and the indrustry and the country can benefit

I have read several articles about online gambling in South Africa. It has been very confusing. Up until now, I didn't know for sure if online gambling was even allowed there. Well, this article does shed some light on things there, Hopefully, for the sake of players in South Africa that enjoy online games, action is at least being attempted to clear up the problems. They haven't made it anywhere near there in the US. Good luck to players and gambling online in South Africa.
