New possibilities to be put up for discussion
In a new drive to boost the revenues coming from Atlantic City, it seems like New Jersey politicians have thought of another possibility - permitting remote 'on-premises' gambling using mobile handheld devices.
Namely, a discussion regarding this proposal will be headed by State Senator Jim Whelan, who also chairs the Senate State Government, Wagering, Tourism and Historic Preservation Committee, and it has been specified that such a move strives to attract a younger generation of gamblers, who are more familiar and comfortable with computer and tablet technology.
In his statement, the Senator said: “They play computer games, and so on, and they text and they Facebook on their iPads and their smartphones, and so forth, and so I think it makes sense to recognize what was not even thought of 30 years ago and is now a reality.”
He also assured that the on-premises mobile gambling would be under strict control, noting: “You step off the premises and this thing goes kaput.”
To make things more favorable for this proposal, Whelan seems to have the approval of the trade association for AC casinos - The Casino Association of New Jersey, whose president, Bob Griffin, said this week: “This innovation would provide an additional amenity to help Atlantic City further distinguish itself as the East Coast’s premier gaming destination.”
