Bureaucracy stops the Lesniak bill
The New Jersey media has reported unconfirmed allegations that there may have been a temporary delay in the Senator Ray Lesniak's plans to present his internet gambling legislation bill to the Assembly on Monday. However, it is widely thought that the final outcome is the adoption of the measure.
What seems to have caused the delay is a financial amendment to the bill that is thought to imply a reduction in the proposed levy for racing envisaged once the law has been in force for over five years. What this means is that the bill will now be sent to Appropriation committees in both the Senate and the Assembly. Still, this is probably a red tape formality, considering that S490 bill has seen exquisite progress through both legislatures.
This delay will not affect a bill proposing that the State enter the sports betting business, which should also be seen on the Assembly floor on Monday.
