Shanghai Nights is yet another three reel slot from Genesis Gaming. This time around the traditional look has received quite an uplift, with animations and colourful graphics replacing the age-old retro-look. Theme

On the screen, you would find what I expect you would find in a typical Shanghai nightclub, which is the inspiration for this slot. This includes some inspiring music as well as the singer herself. The rest of the band is missing, but otherwise, the background picture adds a nice bit of atmosphere on the reels. The symbols themselves are the traditional ones: diamonds, sevens, bars, cherries, and a few that fit the theme.

Betting Options and Functions

Only one line, and only three reels. There is not much else to do here than select your bet and let the reels roll. The symbols can hit off-centre, which means that most of the time there aren’t even three symbols on the payline. When you do get three matching symbols a win is paid out.

The betting starts from 0.40 coins per spin, which means that this is actually a bit more expensive game than the usual one line wonders. It tops at full 80 coins per spin, which is something that is probably only suitable for high-rollers. Cherries act like scatters, paying out from any position.

Features

Rather surprisingly, this one payline slot comes with a few special features. Scatters are in play, and they activate bonus games. Three wilds likewise will result in quite a magnificent payout of 500 times the bet. 

The bonus symbols come with random multipliers between one and three. Two of these symbols will trigger ten bonus games, and three will result in twenty bonus games. The multipliers of each of these are added together to determine the total multiplier, which can, therefore, go as high as nine times the original. Throw in the wilds and you are looking at truly massive wins! The bonus symbols can show up again during the feature, though without the added multipliers. They will result in extra spins though.

Our Take

Shanghai Nights is a pretty straightforward classic slot. The graphics and animations add a nice touch that most similar slots are missing. Likewise, the bonus games, multipliers, wilds and scatters are something that you’d be hard pressed to find in classic one-line games. The game offers medium volatility and an RTP that is above average.
