Intercontinental Hotel Guayana
Guayana (also Guiana or Guyana) was first claimed for Spain back in 1532 and has roughly one million people but became a republic in 1970. It’s one of the few Caribbean countries that’s not an island. It’s also home to one of the largest unspoiled rainforests and more than 80% of the country is covered in forest. It is home to numerous species of birds and animals. There’s several attractions to be found such as St. George’s Anglican Cathedral, Berbice Bridge and Stabroek Market to name a few. If you love sports, check out Providence Stadium. English is the official language, so you shouldn’t have any problems getting around. You can also hear Creole, Akawaio, Macushi and Wai-Wai. Many locals also speak Spanish and Portuguese. After finding your way around the city, pop into the casino for some cards and slots.

gaming

The casino offers 101 classic and video slot machines and video poker terminals, as well as 26 table games such as blackjack, punto banco and roulette across its 9500 sq ft. gaming floor. The casino is open from 1 pm until 5 am daily. You can also find drinking and dining establishments on site. Pop in and try your luck before heading back out into the rainforests. The time indoors relaxing might be just what you need to unwind.

Hotel/Accommodations

The hotel, renovated as recently as 2002, offers 143 single rooms, 42 doubles and 4 suites. It’s conveniently located minutes from the city centre, have the only local convention centre (which can cater up to 2200 people) and is about 12 km from the airport. You can find dining and drinking venues on site, a fitness centre, sauna, swimming pool, tennis courts and internet access.

Dining

There are several restaurants on site, catering to different meals. For breakfast, lunch and dinners, there’s La Llovizna. For lunches only, there’s El Bohio. Also to be found is La Brasserie. If you don’t plan on staying at the hotel, chat up casino staff for recommendations on other eateries in the area that are popular with both locals and tourist to try some authentic Guayanan cuisine.

Attractions/NightLife

Hang poolside, take in a round of golf, or take in a set of tennis. When you’re looking for your favourite cocktails, there’s Mirador Bar, which overlooks the falls. For other bars and night clubs, head into the city centre looking for your new favourite watering hole. If you’re keen on trekking through the rainforests, Guyana has some of the world’s best, with over 1600 birds and over a thousand vertebrate species. Fauna here include jaguars, tapirs and monkeys. Local attractions include Berbice Bridge, Demerara Habour Bridge, and St. George’s Anglican Cathedral. If you’re a sports fan head over to Providence Stadium (also called Guyana National Stadium) which has 15000 seats. If you enjoy horse-racing, there’s 5 courses.
