The Bonanza Saloon

The Bonanza Saloon is an Old West themed building in the Census Designated Place of Virginia City, Nevada, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to the Saloon & Casino, this location is home to the, "100 Mile View," which is a wall dedicated to memorabilia from the Bonanza television show. Established in 1859 due to the discovery of the Comstock Lode, a tremendous silver deposit, Virginia City is a blast from the Old West past! This city originally grew to prominence as miners, spectators and investors alike flocked in to try to strike it rich in silver. While there is no more silver in those hills, Virginia City, with its population of 800 (3.2% of its all-time high) is a National Historic District and is the closest anyone will come to the authentic Old West. Believe it or not, this city draws over two million visitors a year. This saloon was operated by Jesse James until November 1, 2014 when he retired. Since that time, the establishment has actually expanded its hours and is now open until the late evening on most nights when it previously closed at 5:00p.m. Further, this venue has also built a new stage for live music performances that was just completed in February of 2015.

Gaming

The Bonanza Saloon's gaming choices demonstrate that the buildings aren't the only thing historic about Virginia City. There are thirty-five machines in this establishment and all of them are coin-droppers, while they do accept paper money for credits, players get paid in nickels, dimes and quarters. Individuals familiar with this location also like to play the machine called, "Harvey," which pays out in Eisenhower dollars. This may not be the ideal gaming location for Video Poker enthusiasts, however, there are only two machines (both GameMakers) that even have Video Poker on them.

This casino itself does not operate a hotel, but there are a number of historic boutique hotels if you are looking to stay overnight (or for a weekend) in Virginia City, Nevada. Amongst these are The B Street House Bed & Breakfast, Cobb Mansion Bed & Breakfast, Edith Palmer's Country Inn, Comstock Lodge, Gold Hill Motel, Silver Queen Hotel and Silver Land Inn & Suites.

Dining

Unfortunately, this location does not operate a restaurant of any kind, however, they lease part of their premises to a restaurant next door and there are a number of other dining options in Virginia City.

Entertainment/Nightlife

The Bonanza Saloon often features life entertainment, however, the schedule is somewhat non-specific, so if this is a must, we recommend calling ahead of time to see when there will be a band playing.
