With its quarter of a million people (just more than half the entire population) Paramaribo is the largest and capital city Suriname. If you’re in Paramaribo (or Par’bo as it is also called) for business or pleasure, there’s plenty of things to do to keep you busy, from the bars and night clubs to the restaurants and attractions. Begin your tour in the central square where you can find the presidential palace, a statue dedicated to the former prime minister (Pengel) and the gardens of the Palmentuin, where you can flora and Capuchian monkeys. Explore a little bit of history of the region by checking out such places as the Numismatic Museum, Stichting Surinaams Museum and Fort Zeelandia. After days out seeing everything the city has to offer, pop over to the casino for a bit of R and R.

Gaming

Stop by the Mirage Hotel and Casino, and test your luck in some cards and slots. Their slots come in classic, video and jackpot, while table games include poker, blackjack and roulette. Paramaribo is a pretty bustling city and after long days out in the markets and checking out all the various attractions, you’ll probably want a bit of downtime and there’s fewer better places to hide inside and relax than the casino. A bit of luck in cards or on the slots, and next trip to the markets, you may have a bit more luxury when picking out items you’d like to bring back home.

Hotel/Accommodations

Rooms at the Mirage Hotel & Casino come equipped with free internet access, cable television and air conditioning. Guests staying here can enjoy a daily complimentary continental breakfast and services include a currency exchange, free shuttle and 24 hour reception. Paramaribo being a major city, there’s several accommodations available throughout the city. Choose the one best suited to your budget and comfort levels.

Dining

The hotel/casino has a restaurant on site which serves international fare, while light snacks can also be found at the casino bar. In the city, there are several dining options. Find your own favourite eateries or ask hotel/casino staff for suggestions on places popular with locals and tourists. If you happen to enjoy Javanese cuisine, you can head to Mirosso Indonesisch Restaurant, while over at Joosje Roti Shop, you can find East Indian fare. Don't forget your free continental breakfast if you're staying in the hotel.

Entertainment/NightLife

When you’d like to just sit back and relax to your favourite cocktail, enjoy them back at the casino or head over to Warana Bar or Tibiti Bar. If you’d like to kick off your shoes and cut some rug, there’s dancing in Club Touche or Starzz Disco. When live music is what you’re after, try Café Bar ‘t Vat. There’s plenty of attractions in and around the city core. Check out one of the local museums like the Stichting Surinaams Museum or the Numismatic Museum. Religious sites and structures include the Petrus and Paulus Cathedral as well as the Dutch Israeli Synagogue. To peek through history, try Fort Zeelandia, built back in 1667 or the presidential palace, dating back to the 18th century. For shopping, stroll along the waterfront and walk amid the various stalls. For a bit of flora and fauna, there’s the gardens in the Palmentuin.
