Located in the Mexican state of Veracruz, you can find the city of Orizaba. The population sits around 115 to 120, 000 and to the north you can see the Pico de Orizaba, which at 18, 490 feet, is the third highest mountain in North America and first in Mexico. To the south is the mountainous range Sierra de Zongolica. Aside from some beautiful landscape, there’s also several attractions worth checking out. Highlights include the old City Hall El Palacio de Hierro, and the Los 500 Escalones. After all the walking and climbing, head into the casino to catch your breath.

Gaming

Look for a selection of some 200-plus classic and video slot machines in various denominations. Turn to their electronic bingo if you’re interested in trying your luck there. If you prefer betting on major international sporting events and horse-racing, try the sportsbook. The casino may be a little light when it comes to table games, but there should be enough slots to entertain the more recreational of gamblers. Besides, who wouldn’t mind a sweet little slots jackpot to line their pockets?

Hotel/Accommodations

There are no hotels on site, but about 2 km from the casino you can find the Holiday Inn Orizaba Hotel. They offer 103 guestrooms equipped with 32” LCD tvs, air conditioning and free wireless internet access. Facilities on site include an indoor swimming pool, a business centre, fitness centre, and 3 multi-purpose rooms. The hotel is conveniently locatd near several shopping malls, restaurants and local attractions like the Mier y Pesado Castle and the State Art Museum. Ask staff about any other major attractions nearby, or even some of the lesser-known ones.

Dining

There’s plenty of places about where you can sample authentic Mexican cuisine. Try Las Fuentes, and other nearby venues or quick eats at one of the road-side stalls. Casino and hotel staff can probably point out some of the more popular places in the city. You can always be adventurous, and choose your own new favourite eateries. For Mediterranean cuisine, there’s Marron. For Asian fare and vegetarian options, try Sora Asian Bar. You could always head to one of the mercado (markets), picking up fresh produce, meats and fish and make a picnic lunch to enjoy in the park.

Attractions/NightLife

Like most cities, there’s several bars and clubs about. For dancing, head to Mumbai Club, Genesis Club, Discotheque Fandango, or Eventos Infantiles Club. Constructed with 600 tons of Belgium steel, there’s the El Palacio de Hierro (the Iron Palace), located near the main square, the Plaza de Armas and dating back to 1905. The central park of the city, La Alameda, is a great place to unwind and get your bearings. For some history and culture, try the State Art Museum. For some stunning natural surroundings, view the volcanic mountains off in the distance, like the Pico de Orizaba, highest mountain in all of Mexico or walk along the Rio Orizaba. Other attractions include the Panteon Municipal (the municipal cemetery) and the Los 500 Escalones, 500 steps which lead to a 34 metre waterfall, the Cascada del Elefante (or Cascada de Barrio Nuevo).
