Cordoba (or Heroica Cordoba as it’s officially known) is a city in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Its population rings in at around 136,000 and is considered tourist-friendly. It was founded back in 1618 and is comprised of 15 barrios, so bring some comfy shoes; you’ve a few neighbourhoods to trek though. The city’s main square, or zocalo, is a great place to start and get your bearings. Just tell the cabbie to take you to Parque de 21 de Mayo, Interesting geographical features include the Pico de Orizaba, Mexico’s highest mountain, seen to the west. At 5700 metres, it's 3rd highest in North America. If you're a fan of hiking and mountain climbing, you've your work cut out for you.

Try the Plaza de Armas, main square, in the Ex-Hotel Zevallos, which houses a few dining options. If you enjoy seafood, particularly sushi, try Mikasa. There’s plenty of places to find Mexican cuisine, be it from road-side stalls to local restaurants. Ask hotel or casino staff to point out those places most popular with locals and tourists or choose your own as you meander through various barrios.

Attractions/NightLife

Like most cities, there’s bars and clubs about. Try around Nueva Cordoba or near Chateau Carreras for a wider selection compressed into one area. To get a feel for the region, visit the Museo de Antropologia with some Aztec and Olmec artefacts. For culture, try the Pedro Diaz Theatre. To walk along trails and through gardens there’s the Parque Ecologica Paso Coyol. For greater hiking challenges, there's the Pico de Orizaba mountain. A great place to begin and lay out your game-plan on what to do and see, would be the main square, the Plaza de Armas, where you can also find a local church and the Municipal Palace. Religious sites include the San Sebastian Temple, the Immaculate Conception Cathedral and the San Jose Church. If you tire of walking and visiting attractions and just want to kick back and people watch while sipping espresso, try El Interior just off the main square.
