Casino de Cherbourg

Cherbourg is a French commune in the department of Manche and the region of Basse-Normandie, at the north end of the Cotentin, between the Hague and Saire Valley. You can find many beautiful green areas when looking for a little relaxation. Try Montebello Garden, from 1872, with its bamboo and magnolias, or the Emmanuel Liais Park, designed in 1881, and which opened in 1885, with its observation tower, greenhouses and aquatic plants. The Castle Ravalet Park, with its 12 hectares, dates back to 1872, with its palm trees, greenhouses, banana trees and cacti, and listed as a historical monument in 1996. Also look for aviaries with its rare birds, ponds with black swans and artificial waterfall from 1921. If you prefer fauna over flora, especially the marine type, try the Cite de la Mer, with its aquariums, among other curiosities.

Attractions in the area include the Naploeon I equestrian statue, located opposite the basilica, erected in 1858, the Mouchel Fountain found in Place de Gaulle, from 1895, the Proscenium, an Italian theatre from 1880, Cite de la Mer, a complex dedicated to ocean exploration with its aquariums and underwater vehicles, and the parks Emmanuel Liais, Castle Ravalet and Montebello Garden. For museums, visit the Museum of War and Liberation (1954), the Museum of Art Thomas Henry (1835) and the former home of Emmanuel Liais housing the Museum of Natural History and Ethnography (1832).
