  • Ah.... Wimbledon. :D I have to admit, now looking as the seeding list, how names have changed. Berdych is "only" the 10th seed, and Ferrer 13th. We have some new 'names' coming up.

  • Day one results from Wimbledon, the big names are safely through but some good players like Monfils or Kohlschreiber lost their first-round matches.

    Good luck!

  • Main story is certainly Marcus Willis. I mean 3-0 against Berankis! I watched the match and though Willis is playing very aggressive, carefree tennis, Berankis completely crashed under the pressure - it was a real Davis Cup atmosphere. His next match against Federer is a must-see in my book. :)

  • No major upsets in day two either, but Wawrinka did drop a set to Taylor Fritz.

  • All first round matches were finally completed, most of the second round ones as well. Murray went through easily but Thiem is out.

  • Finally Grigor Dimitrov is back on track with a nice win against Simon, it's nice to see him winning for a change after I think 6 straight losses in the previous tournaments.

He love the grass court so hopefully could progress even further.

That's a really nice win for him indeed. He needs some confidence, and I agree, grass is surely the place for him to get it.

I am very disappointed with Thiem's performance, but that's what you get when you play three tournaments back to back, including the semi-final of RG. But Vesely was the best junior, and still only 22,  so perhaps he's time is coming.

  • Just a few matches completed today, it seems that we'll have matches scheduled on Sunday (which is a rare event, happened only 3 times in 139 years at Wimbledon). As for today's matches, Del Potro secured a great victory over Wawrinka, while Federer cruised past Evans.

  • Wow, what two sets for Querrey! I've always knew he could do more, and hoping he would show how good player he was, but does he really have to show it against Djokovic!? :D ;) He was average in his first round match, but against Bellucci and yesterday against Djokovic just stunning tennis. I even think that Djokovic was surprised, he didn't expect that at all. Curious what will happen today.

  • Big upset today as Djokovic was unable to complete the fightback against Querrey. Murray didn't have much trouble in his third-round match while Dimitrov's run came to an end against Johnson.

  • Big upset indeed. There was missing something yesterday, and it was obvious by looking at his second serve return; kept misfiring where he's strongest. I was sure that the organizes would put this match on the Centre Court, for many reasons, so that was a strange decision.

  • Tsonga won an epic battle against Isner, no less than 36 games were played in the final set. Del Potro was beaten by Pouille, while Kyrgios and Berdych pulled through.

  • Seven out of eight matches completed today with no major surprises, Federer and Murray won in straight sets while Tsonga had an easy afternoon as Gasquet retired.

  • Just one set will be played today in the men's tournament at Wimbledon, the decider between Berdych and Vesely, here are the odds at NetBet:

Jiri Vesely [CZE] vs  Tomas Berdych [CZE] 2:2

    2.60 - 1.50

    Good luck!

  • Wow, Federer and Murray are really cruising through the Championship. I doubt Murray will have any issues reaching the final, Tsonga just doesn't have the game to beat him and then in the semis he'll play either Pouille, or Vesely or  Berdych.

  • Berdych won the Czech battle with Vesely, last set was even easier than expected for the number 10 seed.

    Fourth round

    T Berdych (CZE) (10) bt J Vesely (CZE) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3

  • Wow, Federer and Murray are really cruising through the Championship. I doubt Murray will have any issues reaching the final, Tsonga just doesn't have the game to beat him and then in the semis he'll play either Pouille, or Vesely or  Berdych.

woo What a chance for Federer and Murray with Djokovic and Nadal out, this could be the last big chance for Federer to win a Grand Slam and what about Murray who lost so many finals from Djokovic recently.

Didn't have a chance to see many matches at this years tournament but I hope you're right Markotik and Tsonga don't have the game to beat Murray, anyway have to be great.

Know that there are many Federer fans who are desperate to see him win yet another GS title but I think that Murray deserve it no less ;)

  • Quarter-finals coming up today, here are the odds at NetBet:

Roger Federer [sUI] vs  Marin Cilic [CRO]

    1.24 - 4.00

Sam Querrey [uSA] vs  Milos Raonic [CAN]

    4.10 - 1.23

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga [FRA] vs  Andy Murray [GBR]

    7.50 - 1.09

Tomas Berdych [CZE] vs  Lucas Pouille [FRA]

    1.20 - 4.50

    Good luck!

  • ... but I hope you're right Markotik and Tsonga don't have the game to beat Murray, anyway have to be great.

While writing my previous post I thought I was imagining but then I checked their H2H. I saw the only two times Tsonga beat Murray, he was on fire - AO 2008 and Canadian masters 2014, and still both match were very tight. I do agree, it will be a great match; I'm sure that Tsonga will put up a fight, but I don't see a way for him to beat Murray.

  • Great fightback from Federer against Cilic, an easy win for Berdych and a hard-fought one for Murray against Tsonga.

    Quarter-finals

    M Raonic (CAN) (6) bt S Querrey (USA) (28) 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4

    R Federer (SUI) (3) bt M Cilic (CRO) (9) 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3

    T Berdych (CZE) (10) bt L Pouille (FRA) (32) 7-6, 6-3, 6-2

    A Murray (GBR) (2) bt J Tsonga (FRA) (12) 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1

  • All signs that Federer - Murray final will occur, it looked that way right since Djokovic dismisal but I guess Raonic would love to say something about that, hopefully :)

  • I think that Raonic has a good chance; Federer almost failed the first serious test he had this year at Wimbledon. And they, more often than not, had very tight and close matches.

The second semifinal looks more straightforward even though the head to head  wouldn't suggest so. Actually, during the 2012/13 seasons, it was 3-3 H2H, while Lendl was the coach. Unfortunately for Berdych those were his last wins over Murray.

  • I also think that Milos Raonic has excellent chances in this match.

In my opinion Marin Cilic is a weaker version of Milos Raonic, both have excellent service, but Milos plays much better from the baseline, and he is always somewhere near the top. His game is pretty constant throughout the year.

And perhaps another factor, Federer has spent a lot of time on the ground in quarterfinal. He is certainly tired, it takes a lot of energy for a reversal of 0: 2.

  • Yes I thought earlier in the week it's about time for Raonic to make something significant in the GS tournaments but of course win against Federer was quite an upset for me although I expected a tough match. By the way never been a Federer fan so I'm happy with that result.

  • It was a very good semi-final. In that game, serving to stay in the fourth set, Federer made two double faults, but Raonic hit some good returns and played aggressively.

And today the final! I guess Murray is a clear favorite, but I hope that Raonic will be able to make it entertaining. :)

  • So Murray won it, Lendl is the best coach or what? :)

I don't think Ivan Lendl has enough time to do anything about the techniques or style of Murray but obviously there was a psychological difference in Murray's mind or maybe it's just  because of the Djokovic's absence ;)

  • As all top players say, giving yourself a chance over and over again to win titles is what matters, and Murray did just that. He played two grand slam finals already this year and it turned out that that the third time's charm for him. :)

Anyway, it was almost impossible task in front of Raonic - to beat two players from the Big 4 and win a title.

  • I believe that this year Rafael Nadal was gaining the slightly important one. I wait that the master of Madrid. Here in Spain we want that Nadal gains something already. Not this one having very good luck.

  •

Anyway, it was almost impossible task in front of Raonic - to beat two players from the Big 4 and win a title.

To play at the final was far beyond what he expected I guess so to loose a final is not necessary a so bad thing for him. He's still very young and still a learning player and that was his best result in GS tournament so far so there's don't have to be any disappointment in him I think, just the other way round Raonic proved even at himself I guess that he could argue with the best in  business so that will bring him a lot of confidence I guess.

  • I do agree sharpe. I didn't mean to imply that Raonic should be disappointed, just that it's such a difficult thing to do - to beat two players from the Big 4, usually in semi-finals and finals.

I checked some stats and it's been done so sparsely. (including the big 4 itself, of course)

  • Understand mate, never meant to argue just stated my point :)

For sure it's immensely tough especially for a young player to be on that level in two consecutive matches.

I think he has not much left in the tank after that Federer semi final, even mentally, more so on a stage he had never played before but no doubt Raonic is a future Grand Slam winner, the question for me is would he'll be a multiple GS winner?

  • We'll have three finals this week, all are pretty much expected I think:

In Hamburg on clay Cuevas - Klizan

in Newport on grass Karlovic - Muller

and Bastad clay again Ramos-Vinolas  -  Verdasco

  • I have to say surprisingly Klizan  beat Cuevas 61 64!

Karlovic beat Muller and result was expected :D 67 76 76 though they exchanged breaks in the first set.

and again, I have to say I was surprised that Ramos-Vinolas beat Verdasco, and it looks it was rather easy 63 64. That was a fantastic tournament for him beating Ferrer in the seminfinal.
