Serbia's national football squad beat Romania 5-0 and directly qualified for the 2010 World Cup, to be held in South Africa. Serbia – who were leaders of Group 7, having collected four points more than second-place France ahead of the game this evening in Belgrade – secured their spot in the top football competition one round before the end of the qualifying matches. Nikola Zigic, Marko Pantelic, and Zdravko Kuzmanovic scored one goal each, while Milan Jovanovic found the back of the Romanian net twice.
On Wednesday, the team led by manager Radomir Antic will play against Lithuania in the last match of the qualifiers – a game that is now a formality.
