The Houston Texans are now in command of the American Football Conference after grabbing their fifth consecutive win, 20 to 13 at the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, there was bad news for the Texans as Matt Leinart injured his throwing shoulder during the game. Arian Foster ran for 65 yards and a score, Leinart delivered a perfect touchdown pass to Joel Dreessen before leaving the game and the Texans sacked Blaine Gabbert six times. But Leinart's shoulder could be a serious problem as the Texans already lost starter Matt Schaub for the season with a right foot injury. It was the second consecutive loss for the Jaguars who are down in 14th place in the AFC.

The New Orleans Saints recorded their third win in a row and they did that in a spectacular way on Monday night as they defeated the New York Giants 49 to 24. Drew Brees passed for 363 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score to extend New York's losing streak to three games. Jimmy Graham had five catches for 84 yards, including touchdowns of 5 and 29 yards, for the Saints while Brees' two other scoring strikes went to wide receiver Lance Moore, who had five catches for 54 yards. Things are not looking good for the Giants as they are very likely to have a four-game losing streak when they host the unbeaten Green Bay Packers next weekend.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not in very good shape and that showed last night as they recorded a second consecutive defeat, 31 to 14 at the hands of the Seattle Seahawks. Marshawn Lynch ran for 148 yards and a couple of first-half touchdowns and David Hawthorne returned Vince Young's third interception 77 yards for a clinching score with 4:24 remaining. The Seahawks are now 9th in the NFC while the Eagels are down in 13th place.

The Green Bay Packers did snatch another win but the New York Giants put up a brave fight against the dominant force in the NFL. Aaron Rodgers pulled off a last-minute drive to set up a 31-yard field goal by Mason Crosby on the final play of regulation to hand the Packers the 12th consecutive win. On the other hand the defeat was quite painful for the Giants as it was their fourth loss in a row.

The San Diego Chargers stopped a six-game losing streak on Monday night as they defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 38 to 14. Philip Rivers threw for 294 yards and three touchdowns to recover from a rather disappointing start to the season. Rivers completed 22 of 28 passes before sitting out the final few minutes. He finished with a 146.1 passer rating, his highest of the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers crushed the Cleveland Browns last night to extend their winning streak to four games. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played through a high left ankle sprain but he still managed to lead the Steelers to a 14-3 victory. Roethlisberger passed for 280 yards and two touchdowns, including a 79-yard scoring strike to Antonio Brown with 2:52 remaining. The Steelers are top of the American Football Conference at the moment while the Browns are down in 14th place.

The unstoppable Green Bay Packers recorded another win and it was quite a convincing one: 46 to 16 against the Oakland Raiders. Aaron Rodgers threw for 281 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in less than three full quarters while Ryan Grant had two touchdowns rushing and Charles Woodson picked off a pass against his former team. The Packers extended their winning streak to 13 games out of 13 leaving them only three games short of completing a perfect regular season. The Packers have already clinched the NFC North Division while the Raiders are second in the AFC West.

The New England Patriots are in command of the American Football Conference after snatching their eighth consecutive win, 49 to 21 against the Buffalo Bills.  Tom Brady led the New England Patriots back from a three-touchdown deficit as they scored 49 straight points and clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. Brady finished the regular season with the second most yards passing in NFL history, 5,235, after throwing for 338. Drew Brees, who last week broke Dan Marino's record of 5,084 with the Miami Dolphins in 1984, added 389 Sunday for the New Orleans Saints and ended with 5,486. The Buffalo Bills are 13th in the AFC and will have to postpone their play-off hopes for next season.

The New York Giants defeated the Atlanta Falcons quite clearly to advance to the Divisional Play-Offs where they will meet the mighty Green Bay Packers. The Denver Broncos had a lot more trouble with the Pittsburgh Steelers but in the end they made the home ground advantage count. The Broncos will face the New England Patriots in the Divisional Play-Offs.

There were no big surprises yesterday in the first two games of the Divisional Playoffs as the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots booked their tickets for the Conference Championships. The Patriots cruised past the Denver Broncos while the 49ers had a more difficult game against the New Orleans Saints but eventually prevailed 36 to 32.

The New York Giants did it again: four years after their last Super Bowl win they defeated the New England Patriots once again to clinch the title. Eli Manning and the Giants came back with a last-minute score to beat New England 21-17 to grab their fourth Super Bowl title. Eli Manning became the first QB to open a Super Bowl with nine consecutive completions, then Brady put together a run of 16 completions in a row, breaking another Super Bowl mark. But it was Manning who won the contest eventually as he directed the nine-play 88-yard drive that put New York ahead when running back Ahmad Bradshaw scored the winning touchdown.
