  • I used to be a big football fan, I was thrilled when the Rams finally came to STL and were showing promise.

Then the whole Vick thing.  If you're one of those 'he's served his time, paid his dues' then please don't comment on this.  His actions were inexcusable and he knew what he was doing at the time.  He should have served 6 months for every animal abuse charge that he got, and he served not even close to that.  Then the kicker is that the dude claims bankruptcy and a week later buys his girlfriend a Porsche for her birthday.  Dude is a j@ck@ss.

Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut.......  Congrats to the Rams on showing the rest of the country how we doing things and picking up Michael Sam.  The times, they are a changin'........

Anyone who wants to hate on that can just go get a waaaamburger and some French cries.  I"ll summon the waaaaaaambulance to give you a lift to get them.

  • Forgot to mention that under MO law, it's still perfectly acceptable to fire someone based on their sexual preference.  I remember blue talking about archaic laws, and this is definitely one of them.

Either way, good luck Sam. Show those haters what ya got!

  • I love football.  It is my favorite sport.

I totally agree with you about Michael Vick.

I am not prejudice against gays.  My motto is to each his/her own.  Doesn't bother me and it doesn't affect my life one bit.

But...I am wondering why Michael Sam felt the need to come out at all?  He could go on with his career and hopefully do well in the NFL.  Then if at some point it came out that he was gay, so be it.

When I first heard it I felt like he wanted the attention.  Maybe I am wrong, but that was my first thought.

  • I also agree with the fact that to each his own. We were born alone and will die alone. No one can walk our path for us so in all of this i believe people must strive to do what they believe is the right thing. As far as him coming out, maybe he believed it was the right thing to do. I wish him all the luck in the world. All i can do is agree about the Micheal Vick dog fighting scandal. People will be people and i have had some things happen to me (that i have long since forgiven but not forgot) that turned me off forums for a long time. I found LCB and i have been home ever since. I am treated the same here as everyone else and have not once felt like my race played a part in any decision made or my membership here.

  • Medtrans, I don't think it was for attention...  I don't know.  I'm not Sam, but my train of thought would be more 'If I do get drafted, and then people discover my sexual preference, it could prove to be more of a problem than it would have if I just would have came out before'.  I could be wrong, the world will probably never know.

Rena, you are beautiful inside and out baby!  I feel the same way you do about LCB, and the first 3 sentences of your comment really struck a chord with me.  You rock, girl.  :)

  • Thank you so much Jodi. Since i have known you i have saw such a good spirit always filled with good things to say. I too have read your posts and you are a good person also beautiful inside and out. :)

  •                 Heh-Heh,  "Joe Dirt, Joe Dirt",  love that reference Jodi.    I hope the NFL  does  move into the 21st century.  I would like to think that we're more enlightened and accepting  and tolerant these days.  I think it took a lot of courage for Sam to come out like he did and think he'll have a lot more supporters than critics.  And  Rena,  I  think LCB is better with you in it.

  • ongo why did you go and have to make me blush :-[. LOL I am happy to be here also and part of a good forum with the best members :-bd.

  • I have mixed feelings on this one.

I will say kudos to him for 'coming out' and be who he is.  On the flip side, I can only imagine he will get a lot of crap from his fellow teammates.  It is just the way it is.

Look at what happened to Jonathan Martin by Richie Incognito.  Many of us say we are fine with gays, which is true, but football is a mans game (no offense intended by that statement) and I think some/many big tough guys may taunt/make fun of/bully, etc. Sam in the locker room to prove their manhood.  Sounds stupid, but some people are so ignorant.

Michael Vick.  I felt strongly about his awful actions.  Who in the hell can say what he did was a 'sport'.  It is sick and twisted.  I had a problem with him involved with dog fighting and shortly after making millions of dollars.  I don't know if he now deserves to play.

    I am wishy-washy today. :)

  • I think that what Michael Sam did took a bit of courage, I don't think he did it to catch some headlines. Even so, it would still take some courage to do that because there's still a lot of prejudice concerning gay people, especially in sports.

As for Michael Vick, being involved in dog fighting is a terrible thing, he did make amends afterwards by supporting animal rights ideas but I guess he did that just for PR.

I about died of laughter when I read the disclaimer on the headline for this article!!!!  You know everyone out there read the first sentence and their jaws dropped, then the second sentence and were like 'whew!'.  Too funny.
