  • I have seen on other forums and boards using similar software an option to "give" posters good and bad reputation points or on a similar vein, a small check box at the bottom of posts that allows other users to click a "thank you".

My reason for bringing this up is an ongoing conversation regarding "Thanks, code worked for me" posts or others that are of similar vein. While it is nice to have your ffort and find recognized by your fellow members, with 10,000 plus members it can quickly fill a thread till it is difficult to find the actual code.

I am not sure if the software here supports something like this, but it might be worthwhile giving the concept some consideration.

  • Yes that is a GREAT idea.

I have seen such on a "Truckers Forum" (I wanted to be one, but the school near me sucks) and thought how nifty that was.

But YOUR take on it is BETTER and leaves less clutter!!

So, do that voodoo that you do so well!!

  • That is an excellent idea, i've seen it, it works..
BUT there was one problem.. people were clicking (on purpose)
and making people with good reputations have bad ones, just being mean
or jealous, whatever their problem was.. think you get the picture

    So to detur this...
What they did was for good points clicked went straight through, for bad points a small comment had to be writen, and it was sent to admins first which was reviewed, if relevent, the bad point was posted.. then later they just wiped it out and had it for good points only
This also happened on a rating site same thing, he fixed it though and works perfect

My feelings.. don't allow bad points!
But the Good Points clicking EXCELLENT way to get rid of the "Thank you code worked"

  • Re your suggestion, personally....I don't like the idea of someone giving bad feedback at the click of a button just because a code didnt work or they lost a game or didnt win a free chip.

I do fully understand that the "worked for me" and "didnt work for me" is a lot of clutter on the forum.  I was looking at some new posts a couple of weeks ago and I kept seeing the same person saying "worked for me" or "didnt work for me" so out of interest, I had a look at their 60+ posts and every single post without fail said either one or the other.  Multiply that by the number of people who say "worked for me" and you got yourself a whole lot of clutter.  However, on the other hand it is nice to know when a code does or doesn't work and if I see lots of "didnt work for me" then I don't even bother trying.  Its a case of 6 of one and half a dozen of the other and its very difficult to draw the line and determine which is the best way forward to resolve the problem (assuming it is a problem of course).

    blue

  • Actually Blue I am counting more on Human nature in this.
When a code is working and they are able to click a little box that says "Thanks, worked for me" that is the easier and less effort  task. If a code does not work, I am sure that the words to vent that fact will not be satisfied by a simple click on a box saying " Not for me" and we will still see the "this code did not work responses.

I Know the site's I have seen with the check box option tallies the clicks and when reading the thread you see "This post has received x# thank yous" so at a glance you can quickly determine the working ones.

I think Imagination's comment on no bad rep, or needing to post a comment with the bad rep would be closer to the ideal though... again because of human nature. Unlike Stars for posts which are given on sheer volume of postings, whether those posts were doctoral thesis's or single word essay's, rep points are given by the membership itself and gives users a concept of the aptness of a given posting.

Again, I do not recommend going this route without careful consideration... but that it should be looked at and thought through before implementation or disregarding. It has good potential, and as has also been pointed out, potential for abuse.

  • Hi Jimbo,

I have to agree with Blue...not really feeling that idea. I think the main reason is..your running a risk of it being abused. We want to encourage members to post. By telling them that it is a "Bad" post would only make them feel foolish and maybe not post again.

Also i think people may write a wonderful post and someone out of pure meaness could vote it down...leaving the poster feeling like they may not want to ever post again.

I agree with your comment about posts that read "it worked for me"...but your the No Deposit Casino Mod....can't you delete repeated comments like that....if not i think the ability to do it would be a much better option.

    Lips

  • Hey Lips,

I think my concept has evolved somewhat into just a one click positive feedback type thing rather than opening the doors for potential abuse. I to remember my first twenty posts ( I think in my case they came in the first 20 minutes of being a member here) and try to encourage new posters  whenever it is possible.

This is one reason I am unwilling to use my nifty moderator powers to remove ANYONES posts.... ever. I may move a posting to a more suitable location or merge the post with another thread on occasion... but I will never alter or change a word of that post (cept to remove or replace links) and will always leave a note in the post to reflect the what was done and why. Except in the case of out and out spam I am loathe to use Moderator tools for something like this.

On the other hand, just like post counts do give some insight into the mind behind the posting, the "Thanks" box both gives the poster the concept his/her (or other) post was received, appreciated and encourages the next post.

A common issue I get is someone receiving a code in their email, then posying it immediately without checking to see if someone else already posted it, going to the casino and seeing if it worked. In some cases it is a straight cut and paste, which often contains an outside affiliate link. When done as a first posting or two, those links can get someone an almost immediate harsh response and possible ban. When done by someone with 50-100 posts under their belt it can almost surely be considered an unintentional mistake. Both cases require moderation, but what that moderation entails is often based on their post count/reputation, to some degree.

  • Well, i agree to Jim... There's no big deal on reputation, and there only 2 option to have a rep, a good and a bad. Reality bites, and i think its not that when someone has receive a bad rep doesn't mean he can't post, instead he/she can improve his next post.

  • Hi Guys we are trialing the Reputation, Thank you and toopic rating mod's.. if they are abused we will remove them.. smiley Please give feedback!

  • I guess I have never spent too much time anywhere other than here to even notice "reputation points".  The thank you given/received is a cute idea but who has the time to keep track. lol  On our real busy days here I can barely read all the posts.  (I LOVE a fast paced environment, hehe)

By the way THANKS LCB Admin it does look like A LOT of work was involved in getting this idea up and running.  wink
  • Im guessing 5 is good and 1 is no good or reasonable?  How do you do a thank you then....I can't see it.

    blue

  • Me either hun, I know I have been thanked more than twice and you have many many times!  It is probably all still in the works!

  • I guess so Shelli.  I thought I was being a bit thick lol  shocked

  • I think there is an error on the reputation points.  The top points person has never even posted on the site!

  • Hi Admin,

I am a bit confused on the point system too. Not sure how it really works. Not sure if the yellow stars next to the topic is related to reputation points either. What are the yellow stars for.....and why are some with dark  yellow stars!!!!!!

    Helpppppppppppppp!!!!!!!!!! I am lost!

    Lips
  • LOL!!!  Hey ladies we all have no influence!!!!!  lol  I know I influence who means the most to me.... my sons!

P.S.  I think we are all lost Lips.

  • I'd like to add I am lost too..
Someone please come and find me.  shocked

  • My humble opinion is that this is taking away from the purpose of this site which is to become informed about online gambling, where the reputable casinos are, good and bad experiences from actual players, etc.  Without this forum I would have been lost on where to find good sites to play at.  I hope this new "thing" won't take away from that.  That would be a shame.

To me the old saying of KISS applies.  When you add too much to the mix it becomes overwhelming.  Again, maybe I am getting too old?

  • Disabled the reputation mod as it was buggy and I don't think and I hope you all agree adds value to the site.

Totally agree - it didn't add any value to the site at all.

    Good decision and thank you.

  • Ya, I don't think any of it adds any value..now that I read where it came from I truly understand... grin
