  • You've probably seen the Bad Beat Jackpot ring games (cash tables) at poker sites but have you ever played them and have you ever come close?

Lets look at a BBJ that is creeping up to be a huge payoff for being beaten. This is at Americas Card Room (USA OK)

The cheapest game that you can play to win this incredible jackpot (well part of it) is 50c/$1.  The simple rules are: the bad beat jackpot is awarded when quad 8′s or better gets beaten and both cards in the players hand must play in order to be eligible for the jackpot

Basically, if you have quad 8s and someone else has a straight flush or anything that beats quad 8s, you will win 30% of the BBJ which would amount to a whopping $130,543.59.  You can only dream of being beaten and winning this kind of cash.

The saying goes " you gotta be in it to win it" so, do you ever play BBJ cash tables?

Have you ever come close to winning a BBJ?

I would love to hear your stories.

  • I've never played these type of games but with the kind of money you can win,I might just have to try.

  • Definitely worth a shot Rosebud.  Make sure you lose though or you wouldn't get so much cash.

I thought you might say that and I must admit, I was thinking the same thing about my hands. LOL LOL

  • I'm with Rosebud on this one. I have never tried this or even paid much attention to it... you know me and my incremental learning... so much to learn so little time.

These are not SnG's or Tourneys, right? That would make them in the cash game section where I almost never go. Not sure how they work. People just come and go and there is no finite end to the games. Also you use your own money and don't get a stack of chips to work with? At least I think that is how they work? See how confused I am... LOL

  • You hit the nail on the head Katt.  They are indeed cash games.

No actual beginning or end to the game - come and go as you please but they must be marked BBJ or something that represents bad beat jackpot.

You can lose a lot of dough, not just from being beaten but from colluding players.   Care is definitely needed if you do venture onto them.

  • Thanks blue! You have made me feel good about my decision to not go there at this point in my poker career. I am not ready for prime time! Although I think I could lose spectacularly!

    LOL LOL LOL

At 50c/$1 stakes, one could lose a lot of dosh for sure.  It's easy enough to lose a few bucks at the 2c/4c tables...multiply that by 25 and you got a huge amount of cash at stake.  You're very wise.

  • Yes, I used to play the BBJ games religiously at Absolute.  They offered several different levels to play it at, from NL 25¢/50¢ to all the higher Limit games.

I never hit the Jackpot myself; to even get a qualifying hand is difficult enough.  BUT, Absolute used to share the pot with every one playing at that denomination, so I caught that a couple of times.  I think the highest was a couple hundred dollars.

Absolute had a sweet BBJ.  It went over $600K a few times.  $$

  • That's fantastic Lhasalover.  It's great to hear that they do actually pay out and that someone on this forum has won a bit of cash from it.

Do you still play them at other sites or did you give those up when Absolute when down the pan?

  • I have yet to try any other poker rooms, Blue.  I loved Absolute and it's hard to get used to another way of doing things.  But...... I'll be doing it soon, 'cus I've been getting the itch to play Texas Hold'em again.  LOL

I'm glad to hear that LhasaLover and I look forward to lots of your poker stories to come.
