Chitter Chatter at the table ….what does it reveal?

Hi Players,

When I play poker I am not really much of a talker at the table. Talking at the table can reveal a lot about a player. The player who complains that they can’t catch hand all night and then suddenly bets….thats a red flag that they finally hit a good hand! Talkers at times really give themselves away and gives other players the edge of who they are.

Or is it? Can talking at the table be a good bluffing tool? Pretending to be new at the game of poker when in reality you’re the farthest thing from it?

Have you been able to read a player just by there chat?

It's hard to read any player by the way they chat online, but if you play at a live game the way someone talks or doesn't talk you can get a read on them.

I don't think it reveals anything too much.  I have sat there and said that I haven't had a hand and then I'll raise big....but that doesn't mean I have a hand.  I just use it to steal a blind or two now and then.

I've seen other players "use" it....but I don't take too much notice.

I always go in the poker rooms after 1 am.....players have been drinking most of the night, they've made new buddies @ the table, BSing, and I walk in, sit down, and act like 'the dumb girl'. It's tough dealing w/the drunks @times, but I usually always walk away with more than I sat down with.

Table chat online is dif from live game chat thats for sure. But there has been moments where a player has been straight up honest saying they are new to the game and little give aways that help the rest of the players at the table.

I don't see as many players talking online like they use to. I think part of the reason is at least at the site i play at...is they have incorporated international players. Before the US ban it was exclusively US at the tables.

Language barriers could play a major part in it.

I have used chat to trick people before one example was when i was playing on fulltilt got given A 7 suited flop came down A 7 7. guy on the big blind bet the pot. I reraised him and typed into the chat "please fold" so he raised me all in and showed pocket 3's lol. so i took down the pot lol

If i use chat it is to lie about my hand or do something similar to above :P

live game

As an inspector of card rooms for 13 years i found that a lot of good players (regular old guys lol, as tough as old boots) loved not only the game but the social aspect of the game. There was a lot of friends and buddies in the games. The retaliation a lot of new players find in games is mainly because they take the game too seriously therefore the oldies like to take the piss. Some of the oldies are real genius at the game and generally placed regularly at all final tables from 150 players to cash games. But they dont tend to shift gear as much when its just a relaxed game they just sit back and enjoy it.

lol.I was quite a good player i stopped playing about 6 years ago. I just got bored with it. I go through wee phases, a couple of times at xmas I tend to take all my savings for presents and double them through arbing. It can be slow an monotonus but there is no risk or gamble if you know what you are doing. I like slots just now, I won a monster jackpot at intercasino yesterday for $4000 on vampire bats soo much fun.
