ReadI have not actually won any freerolls lately, but I have cashed. Won $6+ in Carbon's $10k monthly freeroll yesterday.
Speaking of which, disappointingly Merge has dropped all of it's daily freerolls down from $200 to $50. Until now they had been my favorite freerolls to play, especially the HORSE tourny.
The lame thing is that the $200 payout was not even really $200. Forth to first place finishers won a few dollars, but all the rest only received tournament tickets. To cut those type of payments is just lame IMO.

No - no points or anything like that.

That's a bit of a joke surely. If the majority of the payouts were tickets and the rest were just a few cents, what is the point in dropping the value of the freerolls down to $50.
It's just tight.
I'm inclined to agree on wanting the dollars over a ticket but 5,000 into $50 doesn't really go (well it does - its 0.01). That is definitely hard work.

Exactly blue!! Not all the freeroll get the max amount of 5000 players but there are usually between 2000-5000 players.Hard work and hours of playing for a small amount.

Freerolls bring players and you would think they would be upping the amounts rather than dropping them. I really don't understand the thinking here.

I have been taking a pass on most of those types of freerolls. Some as bad as $10 split a gazillion ways with 1000's participating. They are good practice if you have a lot of time and no money, but not for regular playing to win.
I find with poker rooms that offer only these low dollar high participant freerolls I tend to go elsewhere so I completely agree with you blue in thinking they would be upping the amounts rather than dropping them!

I usually manage to at least sign up for all of the Merge tournaments, some of the ones from Cake (Juicy Stakes for U.S. players) I really like the "Russian Roulette" and "War" freerolls. They always get me cursing at my monitor though.
Play a few at Betonline, usually the larger ones. I will call all in on most mid strength hands for the first 30min of the smaller payout freerolls though. Not worth being too concerned over $10 split 10 ways. With +1000 players registered.

Do you win anything on the Cake or Betonline freerolls?
I've won a few cents on the Betonline ones - enough to rebuy and addon during a game but nothing major.
blue
Same for me too blue at BOL...a few cents here and there.
With those small prizepools, there isn't much on offer as Orren has said but a few cents here and there certainly helps.
I have enough for a small buyin sitngo or a few rebuys/addon in a few freerolls. It would be nice to win one of their freerolls. Percy Verance - I know him well! LOL

I have won all of the "Cake" Freerolls at least once. I really like the bounty freeroll they have at nite. It alternates every nite from Russian Roulette to War. About half the time I manage to at least take 1 bounty which I can then take to the casino or to the limit .02-.04 cent table.
The most I've won on BetOnline was around $16 from a $100 freeroll (first place). Now I've not had much luck with freeroll winnings on the poker side, but I've taken my bankroll up to around $125 from next to nothing in the casino side. Never made anything more of it from there though. With bigger wins comes bigger bets and all of a sudden 5 or 6 bets in a row with no return and its game over yo.
I placed 28th in the $50 freeroll from BetOnline just a bit after I posted earlier. Prize = $1. Took $0.60 to the casino side and on my first spin on the "Fast Lane" slot ($0.01) I won $2.
This is my favorite slot simply because a $0.01 spin covers all lines and the max payout is $5 on that 1c spin. I have hit the $5 win about 4 or 5 times since BetOnline opened to U.S. players.
Played two "1up" (double up) SNG's. First one was 50c that I won. Took that to $1 for next SNG and I got beat up pretty bad. Then I crapped out on the casino side. About 1.5hours of play out of $1.
I don't understand why it is I can play on $1 for upwards of 3 days, but if I have $50 it usually does not last me more than 1/2 a day or so.
I can drag it out longer in micro stakes, but micro stakes is near impossible to remain a profitable player due to the % of rake taken and the high number of bingo players.
I guess the amount of cash in the bankroll dictates the stakes we play at. Even if you decide to play at micro stakes with a large banrkroll - that won't work because you know you don't have to suffer the donkeys and could play at higher stakes.
As far as freerolls are concered, the play at 888poker is terrible. I've never seen so many donkeys and it's difficult to make money on them no matter how good a player you are.
I just tried to log-in to FS and I received a message that they are no longer operational!! What???
Now I have to find another merge site to play on and i have no idea where to try!! :(
That's a bit of a shocker Rosebud. I've not heard anything about FS going.
There are some options for you - try Aced Poker or Oddsmaker Poker. They are both USA friendly and both on the Merge Network.
I'll see what I can find out about FS.

Thanks blue.I have an account with Carbon poker so I guess I'll play there for right now.
I started to play at Carbon when I realized that they give a percentage of Rake, back to you every nite. There are very few Merge skins that do this.
The most I've received was $1.50 (and that was playing at medium stakes for a few hours straight). But when you crap out as often as I do, receiving an extra buy-in even if its only for The $0.06th cent tourny is a kinda nice little bonus. lol
They also have a $0.11, $0.26, and $0.55 tournament every nite that I believe is exclusive to Carbon. It's kinda nice to play in a few micro-stakes tournys that only have 45 or so players.
No blue, I haven't, but then I have not been playing too much the last few weeks. I will give ya a holler if I do though!

Cheers Katt. Good luck iif you do play.
Personally, I've not been playing any freerolls at the mo (only buyin games) but there is a nice one tonight which I'm hoping to register for at 888 Poker - 3k pot I believe.

It's been +1week since I've cashed in a freeroll. Even then it must not have been for much since I can not recall the amount won.
Even with me being a more active cash playing depositor, I should have more freeroll winnings. I can't even remember the last time I took down a freeroll and it used to be a semi-regular occurrence for me....

Perhaps freerolls get a little boring when the "all-ins" start throwing their chips in the pot?
I'm playing in that 3k freeroll I mentioned earlier. 6299 started and there are 684 left, It pays from 500th place and I'm currently 320th. Looking hopeful for a small cash.

Blue,I can't wait to hear the results!!
Best of luck!!!
Sadly, as it was so late, I just kept nodding off and I decided to just go all in with QK suited. If I won I was going to make a tea to wake myself up and if I lost I would go to bed. I went to bed!
I came in 200 and something out of 6299 and won $1.80. It's not great but it's a cash from a freeroll.

If I may mangle the writings of both Gertrude Stein and Shakespeare in one sitting, I say, "A cash is a cash is a cash. A cash by any other name would smell as sweet!"

Shortly after my last post on this thread, I managed to take 8th place in the Merge Omaha freeroll. Believe I won me a whole $1.50.
Came at a good time too. At the beginning of the tourny I still had a bankroll, but about half way thru I crapped out of my cash. Was nice to be back in the +$.
lasted all of 10 minutes though. LOL
24th I came and won $2.25. All that grinding for not a lot. But a win is a win.
I actually went out with pocket aces against pocket aces but the other guy had a J and 2 jacks came on the board giving him trips. Dang it.
I'm not very experienced with pot limit and not experienced with omaha as such but I'm getting there.
Thanks for the support Katt.

Pot limit for the most part only effects the pre-flop and flop betting rounds in my experience.
Omaha: The key is to remember to....
- Rarely raise preflop.
- Be a calling station preflop and a fair amount after flop on unraised/ min raised pots (if your stack can afford)
-and to sit out if your table has a lot of preflop raising action (nothing will build / bust your stack faster and its almost always a bust).
Seems like you did pretty well (so I'm not sure why I posted this). Well..... Good Job hun..... LOL
Those with stacks (including me) were calling stations pre-flop providing there were no raises (unless it was me raising). i did hit some good hands and I agree with you totally, call as many hands as possible. I only saw one straight flush and I hit 4 kings on the flop on one hand. Jeez it was like getting blood from a stone to get these players to bet and me a chance to re-raise. I knew if I bet straight away they would fold.
I did some amazing bluffing too with huge bets that could have cost me the game but they paid off. I really enjoyed it and I'm not a pot limit or omaha fan!
Thanks for your post. An acknowledgement (and tips) is always appreciated.
