  • Ever wonder how the "river card" was named?

The fifth card dealt on the table in Texas Hold'em is often referred to as the ‘river’. It got this nickname from when it was played on the riverboats in the US. Cheaters would often hid a card up their sleeve and switch with a poor fifth card. If you were caught cheating security would be tough as you’d be thrown into the river off the back of the boat!

  • Real gold dust! Quite amazing.  Is it possible to scrub it off?  cheesy

  • Did you know..............

Wynn Las Vegas Casino features A $10,000 Cocktail!

Order this pricey cocktail at Encore’s nightclub, XS, called Ono. The drink comes complete with a Louis XIII’s elite Black Pearl Cognac with exclusive Piper-Heidsick’s Charlie champagne. The luxurious cockail also has an 18k gold necklace with a Tahitian black pearl hanging from a diamond beneath the gold XS logo plus a pair of Mont Blanc 18k gold cuff links.

I say hold the cognac and bring the jewels!

  • hmmm, $10,000 congac I'll pass, make that a scotch that I'll be drinking with the expensive jewels.  Bring it on!

Otherwise another funny named club ono.

I really want to know where they heck they come up with these names.  I'm sure it has some sort of symbolic meaning.  Yet really, Ono.

Keep em coming lips, I love the research that goes into this.

  • Sometimes when I play blackjack in the high limit room at my local casino there are very high rollers playing.  They bet a minimum of $500 a hand and I am betting $25-$50.  They are very jovial and have a lot of fun win or lose.  A couple times a guy was winning lots and wanted to buy the table a shot.  I declined as I am not a drinker, but the guy said "King Louie shots all around."  A couple guys had them and I found out they cost $89 a shot!  I can't imagine paying that kind of money for a shot of booze.  It must be very good!!  smiley

    Hi Cheetah,

Actually the cocktail named "Ono" the club is XS. I did a bit of research to find out how the cocktail got its name and here is what i dug up:

The cocktail which by the way is served for two received its name from the inspiration of the Polynesian God Oro who, as legend has it, brought a black pearl to the princess of Bora Bora.

Wow wish you knew what kind of shot that was. Can't even imagine what kind of liquor is in it. Must some kind of rare age booze. When he says "drinks all around" about how many shots this dude buy?
  • I agree with lipstick. For a guy who plays 4-7$ hold'em tournaments this sounds crazy. Put the point in gambling is to play your game doesn't matter in which amount of money you are playing to.

  • Did you know.....

Cabana Palace and Desert Palace was tossed around for names for a ground breaking Las Vegas Casino until it got its official name Caesars Palace .

  • Did you know………

Caesars Palace uses over 2 million maraschino cherries, 11 thousand ounces of caviar, 2 million ounces of tomato juice, and close to 600,000 ounces of vodka in a year's time.

I think it is cognac.  (Brandy).  I believe he bought 3 shots..one  for him and the other 2 guys.  I declined of course.  (I told him I would take the money instead and he laughed his @ss off.)  The guy is kind of young (late forties maybe?).  He owns an egg farm which must do quite well judging from the way he throws money around.

  • Imagine that with all of the drinks they give away in Vegas.  I'm sure they go through quite a bit of stuff that's makes the drinks what they are.

Hell even when I played in Council Bluffs they gave away drinks like they were candy.

  • I have been to Council Bluffs and yes the drinks are generous for sure. I stayed at Harrah's and was not crazy about it. Liked Ameriastar Casino much better. At Horseshoe i played a penny 100 hand Video Poker and got dealt 4 aces......ah that was sweet  money.

  • Louis XIII ~ I bought this bottle in 1998 & it was a little over $2k. I was 21 years old & had just come into an large sum of money. I would never buy this today ($3k today). What a waste of money, right? The worst part about it? I don't even drink Cognac! It's disgusting! I googled my Louis XIII remnants & turns out the box and empty bottle sell for $800-$1200. Of course, I have no idea where my bottle may be? I thought it was in this box still! smiley

I guess the fact that each carafe is numbered by hand is pretty cool, but DID YOU NOTICE WHAT LETTERS MY SERIAL NUMBER STARTS WITH? B S - Yes I think bullshit is exactly what they are selling! I could have bought 1000 bottles of Stoli vodka with that money! smiley lol

( I made sure LCB could be seen in the background so you wouldn't think I was selling you BS as well!)

    (old link removed)

  • Wow that is way cool Jenna! It is a shame you can't find the bottle. I have a bottle of  Elvis wine that i have never opened that is supposedly the collectible from his manager Colonel Parker. But it was no where near the value of yours.

Thanks for sharing - really a great read and pics!

  • I found the bottle! I went on a hunt for that sucker! It is on the top shelf of my curio in my craft room. Turns out the empty bottles are not really worth $8-1200 ... more like $200, only bottles from the 30s, 40s & earlier are worth that kind of money.
  • Did you know.........

The first Casino to open up in Atlantic City was Resorts Casino Hotel. It was the first to become legal outside of Nevada in the United States making its debut on May 26, 1978.

  • Did you know......

The Pink Flamingo opened the day after Christmas Decemeber 26th, 1946 in Las Vegas and after two short weeks closed with a loss of $500,00 due to poor planning, weather conditions and incomplete constrution on the already $6 million property.

It did reopen in 1947 and well the rest is a long, long history!
