I have a question for everyone in every country, id like to get the most honest answers...
Is having a respectable job more important than the wages you are paid?
For example... I went to college for 4 years studied and trained as an animal health tech, I received my certification, in my area those positions are filled so I ventured elsewhere I needed to pay my bills.. okay after all this time I got on the job training and have move my level up to management in a Walmart Neighborhood Market, im making a salary higher than what i'd make as a Animal Health tech, a position opened and I declined, staying at my current job, when I say im a manager at a walmart I don't get any respect lol as I would if I were to say im an Animal Health Tech.. another example, a trash man saying he works for a trash company to an insurance agent, the trash man makes more money, is steady and secure with income and is job protected through the union, an insurance agent is a respectable job, but the trashmans money is double his...
What's more important to you?

I have been in that same position. I worked as a server while putting myself through school and made a lot of money, but always felt it was frowned upon. I am currently in law enforcement and make half the money I made then. Yes by society standards it is a more respectable job, but why? We put so much emphasis on our status, when in reality who cares.

Good question Imagination,
We live in material world hence money plays one of the crucial roles in everyday life. So to answer your question back in a day i would have probably chosen better paid job over something i actually enjoyed doing but not making me enuff money.
With that said I have to stress that i left university in 2006 ( law studies ) to pursue something i was back then just starting to know and like ( online marketing ).
This was a risky move for me personally as if i finished the stuides i had a job waiting at my Dad's practice. But it was an easy choice for me as i never liked law much lol -

Thank you all for your replies, you are all right with the answers what does it matter to another person, money matters when it comes to paying the bills to most, being happy in your job does tie up with that, rarely have I found someone who steps down some knotches from a job, to be who or work the job they've trained to be for years... as for myself i'd rather have the disrespect making good money, then have the respect making half as I would...
I do have to say...having a job any kind of job is respectful, trashman, burger flipper, janitor whatever... -

In reality it doesn't matter as long as you can support yourself and pay those bills but there definitely is a certain level of disrespect with some jobs. When I worked in retail it was the customers that were disrespectful. Oh you're just a cashier, stocker whatever but when I moved into banking, people were like oh you're a banker. Somehow it seemed more respectable. I still dealt with rude people. To be honest I'd rather ring up your toilet paper than say you've got insufficient funds!

I really liked your post because really today there are many problems in this world so I think we should value life, love, money, take care of it, family, I live in Mexico and here life is difficult, we live in a world on the brink of a terrible war so we must take care of all the resources that we have in our hands, I have my family that includes two of my parents and brothers and my animals, so the people who have all that value it and take care of it a hug from your friend "pollis" and thanks for the post

As long as you don't have to worry about money and you are happy in your job, the status of that job is irrelevant imho.
This exactly. My wife and I both work full time. However my wife makes more than I do. I am a local heavy equip ment hauler and dirt hauler. I make pretty good money but I am very happy in what i do. I wouldnt change jobs even if I could make more money.

more money can really be more problems ..... but if you wanted to know what i think is more important i would say to you that you should pursue what makes you happy and feel fulfilled in life, money is a root of evil it all depends on how we let it affect us . If it makes you happier and more fulfilled in life to work at walmart and to make higher wages then go for that but if it really doesnt and youre more so staying with them for the money then i would strongly suggest you to take the leap of faith and go after what your heart wills you to do . Not to be religious but God or the universe will make sure that you have all you need esepically if you are trying to serve some good and everything works for the greater good anyways so its really all to each their own but also what the heck do i know ? lol not much i assure you lol
