There’s the rub though...
It’s fairly commonly accepted that no matter what it is you do for work, in time you grow to resent it or even downright hate it. As my grandma used to say “that’s why it’s called work and not ‘fun’, because work is a four letter word” which while folksy, holds some deep, sage-like wisdom.
This of course always had me wondering why everyone always suggested, that when it came to a career, you should find something you love and build a career around it.
If grandma’s folksy wisdom was true, that sounded rather like deciding to only ever eat your favourite sweet at every meal for the rest of your life, until the very thing you used to cherish and look forward to the most in life, inevitably became the bitter pill you just had to keep on swallowing.
I tried expressing this sentiment to her once and with a wry grin I was too young to understand at the time she locked eyes with grandpa and said, “Exactly! Just like marriage...”
A different generation indeed.
Think of all the random nonsense I’d miss out on wasting peoples’ time with on forums if I’d become a writer or for that matter, stayed married...
Best of luck though.
Cheers!
