  • Hi all!

First off, I would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine's Day! heart

In the spirit of the most romantic day of the year, I'd like to pose a question. My fiance and I are planning a September wedding and were really hoping to plan a honeymoon somewhere in the Caribbean. However, after much research, we've realized that September is at the height of hurricane season and it would be quite a risk to plan a honeymoon in the Caribbean during this time of year. We aren't too keen on the idea of postponing the honeymoon a couple of months to bypass the hurricane risk.

So, what are some alternative honeymoon destinations offering that same, relaxed, beachy vibe?

    Any suggestions are appreciated!

  • Maldives for a relaxed, beachy vibe, but I would also suggest Santorini, Greece. It's a vulcanic island, so the landscape is not the usual white sand beach paradise, but it's still beautiful and otherworldly nevertheless. Check out Oia or Fira there. I think the prices for a mid-range resort should not be skyhigh, at least not when compared to Caribbean. Shark attacks are almost non-existent there, so no worries. wink

  • Italy is nice as well, I would suggest the Tuscany region (probably the most beautiful region I've ever seen). They do have a coast and some beaches in there as well, even though September might be a bit late to enjoy them.

  • Somewhere remote!!! It does not matter where, you can make even a trip to north or south pole :D the main thing is to be together, more or less, alone away from the daily buzz around!

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I have definitely considered Europe, especially Italy and Greece. I've heard that September is a nice time weather-wise, particularly for Greece. Such beautiful countries and great cuisine and wine to discover!

I have also heard wonderful things about Costa Rica. I just have to mentally prepare myself for the longer flights from the U.S. as I'm not a huge fan of flying worried

The longest I've been on is an 8-hour flight to England, and it was miserable!

  • Getting to Greece from the US is even longer :D:D I think there is no straight flight from Greece to US, maybe i'm wrong, but as far as i know you have to go 13-14 hours to ge trom US to Greece :)

  • @Total Raccoon, oh no! That would be a serious deal breaker! Thanks for the tip, I'm going to have to look into that...

  • Hi NatSteph,   these  are all wonderful suggestions.   I remember when I went on my honeymoon in 1995 I told my wife I wanted to go to an island that ended in a vowel.   I didn't realize there were so many!!    Anyways,  long story short....we decided on Hawaii,  can't go wrong there.   We spent a week on Oahu  and a week in Maui.    Absolutely beautiful..   The  weather was great,   seemed like it was around 82 degrees the whole time. I  think  everyone should go to Hawaii at least once in their lifetime.

I have always wanted to go to Hawaii. I'm sure it's absolutely beautiful! The only thing holding me back is I've heard it's very expensive in comparison to the Caribbean due to its lack of all-inclusive options. I think I will have to go one day, though!

  • Hi NatSteph,   I got a great package deal from AAA  (of course this was 1995).   Anyway,  my sister was a flight attendant with  Continental Airlines and gave us buddy passes for the trip.  (We had free air from Tampa to Los Angeles).   We just had to pay the tax I believe.   All inclusives are a great way to go if you can do it.  (Save a bundle in tips).  Anyways,   good luck,   I hope you can find a good deal.  We just got real lucky..

Good for you! Sounds like an amazing deal, and an awesome time. I will definitely have to do some research and look into my options. I believe I've heard there are a select few all-inclusive resorts throughout Hawaii, but are not be as jam-packed with amenities as those in the Caribbean. Still worth checking out, though. Hawaii is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for your input!

  • you guys should consider Europe wink

Considering Italy and Greece, actually! I've gotten a little weird with flying recently, though. I don't know if I can hack another flight for 8 hours or more after my last trip to England! We shall see...

sweet, Belgrade is one short flight away from both Rome and Athens.  wink

Agreed! Definitely planning something remote and relaxing to unload the stress of wedding planning and enjoy life as newlyweds!

  • I would recommend Greece for a honey moon, even though I am not married, yetwink

  • Maldives :)
