cat vs dog vs bird
I'm a bird person myself. I would love to have a dog but I would hate to leave it on it's own so I stick with birds. I've never owned a cat and if I had to choose between dog or cat, dog would win hands down but throw a bird into the equation, the bird wins every time.
I've never considered a fish tank but I have stared in wonderment at them in the shops that sell fish. Big tanks are so relaxing to look at so I can understand why your Dad prefers fish.

I'm a cat lover myself, infact any kind of animal i love..my daughter and i had them all, hamsters, rats, lizards, fish, a ferret, the ant farm,a dern cacoon (which she waiting forever for it to turn butterfly it never did) caterpillars, frogs, turtles, and two really noisy lovebirds.. well when it came time for the puppy, she brought it home and walked in the door before she could say anything i was like.. omg no more pets, theres enough in the house we have a small zoo here, i'm like looking at the puppy saying.. oh no.. look at his nose and eyes.. nope no more.. look at his little ears.. "noooo absolutely not, take him back".. look at his little tail so sweet... "really we can't have another pet here it's just too much".. oh my goodness he likes me his little paws just the cutest puppy i ever seen... "i said no no no"... let me get my shoes and my purse, were gonna have to go buy him a collar and a leash, some food too, make a spot for him to sleep.. you talked me into it, what we gonna name him... she never said a word..lmao..

I am an animal lover but my heart belongs to dogs more than cats. I think the reason is dogs tend to be much more openly affectionate. To go out the door for 2 seconds to take the garbage out and come back in and have your dog greet you like you have been gone tens years is priceless.

I am a true cat lover. Cat over dog all the way !
This is my opinion of household cats and dogs..
dogs are loyal but their loyalty is to whoever their current master is. The owner can change and the dog will be loyal.
cats are more independent and trust is earned not given. My cat is extremely obedient, friendly, playful, lazy.. She has a very unique personality <3.
Dogs are dirtier and tend to get health problems / Cats are cleaner and although they still may get an issue within their health, the chance is much less.
Plus, Dog's poop are large compared to Cat's poop. -

I think I am a cat person. I've had cats all my life, even before I was born, my mom owned a cat. So I can't really imagine my life without a cat, even though my cat loves to ruin my stuff and eat my food! But some day I would love to own a husky, when I look at them, I fall in love with their sky blue eyes. It wasn't an option, but I would actually love to have a hedgehog, I think they are so cute! And when I was a kid, my first word was hedghehog- just in latvian language!

At home I have a dog (Labrador) and 4 cats, and I love them all. All are special in their own way. Labrador (Timo) is like a puppy, he was 7 years old. He is full of love and that neither cat can not give. -

ive had both, I love both... i had my cat "georgie" for 19 years.. he passed 3 years ago now. i miss him still... as much as i wanted to get another cat (they ARE very self sufficient i just couldn't. i have 3 dogs now.. and i love them just as much as i did my georgie. but WOW they are a lot more work! lol.. they're kinda like toddlers that you can leave home alone sometimes..lol (as long as u pick up everything and dont mind a sofa cushion-stuffing once in while!) <3

I consider myself more of a cat person. As it's been said, they are much less work. I have a cat right now. I didn't have to train her very much, I don't have to take her out or bathe her. A lot of dogs have an odor that is detectable in the entire house. As long as I keep up on her catbox (and I do), nobody would walk into my home and know I have a cat.
Don't get me wrong, I love dogs, I am not in any way trying to put them down. I think they are wonderful! They are great to have around and will help secure your home more than a cat. I would just prefer to cuddle up with a cat than a dog.
I think that it's a really cool thing to have a pet as part of the family and that there are so many options for each individual to be able to choose for themselves.

my wife loves cats
she had 19 a few years ago
i like dogs but prefer cows
i have managed a few farms through the years and always loved them
they are mostly gentle but all have great personalities
raising calves is so rewarding because as they get older they still come up and lick your hand or nudge you for a pat
like any animal if you treat them right they will love you back -

Dogs rule.....We have a 13 1/2 year old Jack Russell and a nearly 4 year old rough coat Collie (possible Golden Retriever mix). Just when Lulu (the Jack) was starting to mellow out, Teddy (Collie)
brings all this freakin' energy, he still thinks he's a puppy (albeit an 80 pound puppy). -

I see so many people hurting that I try to give my time to people before animals.
My father fed our twenty one pets my birthday cake when I was around 8 years old. Pretty traumatizing watching a freaking turtle among many other animals chewing on what was supposed to be your cake. It was punishment for supposedly me eating my parents wedding anniversary cake. I saw the dog get into the cake and ran into my room to not get in trouble. My parents said, no way did dogs get into the cake, because the pieces were perfectly sliced that got into. After 30 years while getting some time in with my Dad while he had cancer, I finally guessed, it was a presliced cake, is how a dog can get into a cake leaving perfect slices missing.
I do like that cats clean up after themselves, I hate picking up poop from dogs that do not belong to me. Excuse me, but me and kids in the neighborhood do not like to play at local parks and step in dog sh.. -

Eberetta1 , I 'gotta weigh in here. Dogs, by the way freakin' love cake. Every year around early August when it's Lulu's birthday (the Jack Russell) we buy cupcakes and have a party. Okay, it's not as corny as it sounds. We usually film it because it's so damn funny. This dog is a beast. She'll jump up on the chair in the kitchen when we're singin' "Happy Birthday" (Yes, we really do this, don't laugh ya'll) dogs are family, dammit!! and she'll grab that cupcake in her mouth in like one motion. It's pretty amazing. She's so greedy, (the cupcakes are NOT chocolate and don't have the wrapper on, so don't worry). Anyhow, she practically inhales it. The best part is the gift. We usually put a dog toy loosely in a bag and throw it on the floor and tell her to get it. It's like she KNOWS it's hers so don't get too close. She shreds that thing and opens it faster than anything. I have to post a video if I can find one. We pretty much do the same thing for Teddy (Collie) on his birthday but he doesn't react the same. He takes his time, very sedate compared to Lulu. You'd have to be there.
