How Gamblers Raise and Lower the Bar on the Value of Money

YES!  YES!  YES!

I was reading about myself throughout your entire post.  

The banana analogy was so spot on.
I will be at Marshalls and see 2 cute tops, one for $22.99 and one almost as cute for $12.99... I take the $12.99 one but while gambling...drop another $25 without blinking.

Have you ever spent $100 at the grocery store and as your unloading bags of groceries thought.... look at all this stuff and then think of the $100 spent for a few minutes of playtime and had nothing to show for it?  I do.

Yep.  

Have you ever been ready to deposit and think.. should I deposit at Casino A or Casino B?  Hmmmm. I'll pick Casino A and lose in a second and think, darn, I bet I would have had much better luck at Casino B.

Wow...SPOT ON Lips!  You think just like me...or maybe it is I who think just like you...which means, we are gamblers:)  I go through these same analogies ALL the time and when I've done a pretty foolish thing such as not cash out at $500 when I think $1000 is better...and then lose it all, I really begin to see the value of a dollar.  I could have paid that off, or I could have bought this or done that....I am one of the worst offenders of this.  Thanks for making me think hard about my "habit".  If not for this recent very lucky win I had...I was pretty close to stopping online gambling, at least for awhile.  BUT....all it takes is one good win and "we're back in the game"...hence, the cycle continues.  However, I am going to be a GOOD girl this time and have a plan in place so that I will not gamble back these winnings.  I have to do this....I can be such a weenie sometimes at following through on things that hold me accountable

          It doesn't seem real on a cognitive level,  more of a  gut reaction.  The money is obviously deferred because we know even if we win, it'll be several days before we see a dime of it.  It's an abstract concept  sort of like when you hear some fool say  "I'm ahead so I'm playing with their money"  WRONG!!!  That money is yours the microsecond you won it, not " their  money".    That type of thinking prevents people from cashing
out.  (That and a healthy dose  of greed). 
        When we have the money in our hands it becomes real.  In cyberspace,  that's another story. 

That couldn't be more true. My husband downloads iTunes on his phone and I'm like how much are those each? Yet, I can spend an obscene amount gambling. What you convince yourself you can live without is much different when you're gambling. It's CRAZYYYYY! 

I've got a vice-versa situation... when I'm looking at smth and tell myself that I can't afford it I rember my loosses few days ago and there is no economy needed after that :yeap:

Lips, you've got me laughing. i hang my head at the price of gas after i've basically taken $200 or more and practically lit it on fire. Somebody shake me. I can say that i dont feel as bad seeing that many of us here are in da same boat.

Yup Yup, I don't think any gambler on any sort of budget feels differently.  i 'spent' so much gambling the last few months my husband says he doesn't care what I buy, but if I spend money it better be on something tangible lol.  I look back and i"m like I spent HOW MUCH?  Then whine over my cell phone bill or something.  Ridiculous:)
