CLOSED - The LCB $1,500 Spread the Christmas Cheer Contest

Few months ago,I headed out the door to the restaurant that's about a block away to get some food to go.I stepped out the right back in to get my coat, because it was quite a bit colder than I expected.As I approached the place,there was this girl sitting against a wall with her legs pulled up close to her chest and her head between her knees,obviously trying to fend off the cold. We have a lot of homeless around, but she was young and clearly not homeless.I asked the guy giving my food about her and he said she had been there for about 5 hours.I go my food and before I walked out,I checked to see how much cash I had on me.I had 15 RON so I pulled out 5 RON to give her to get something warm, but the I thought that may not be enough,so I put the 5 RON back in my coat pocket and pulled out the 10 RON bill.I walked up her and saw her shivering and got her attention and asked if she was OK.She said something like she was dropped off and they were supposed to be back a long time ago, but the haven't returned. I reached out with the money and as she took it she began apologizing, telling me that she's not a beggar and not usually in such a predicament then thanked me so much.I turned to walk away, but I couldn't let her sit there and continue to freeze so I took my jacket off and walked back to her.She looked up at me and I told her to take my coat and again, she apologized and thanked me as she peeled her arms from her body to allow me to put the coat on her.As this was happening, she expressed concern or me and I told her I only live a block away and I'll be fine.I could clearly see how she felt the warmth of my body still in the coat and ho much better she felt already.Of course, I felt good too, even though I gave her a nice coat, but if I had walked away with her freezing like that, I would have been thinking of my own daughter and been sad and upset wit myself for leaving her like that.I felt good about that and I know she really appreciated it and will forever remember that. After I got home, I thought to myself, "Oh shoot! Well, I hope she checks the pockets".When I separated the money I gave her, I stuck the rest In my coat pocket, but forgot to take it out when I gave her my coat.In the end, to me, the value of the coat and the cash was well worth help it provided this young lady and myself.
This is one of my random act of kindness and i think we need to be good and help people all year long!!!

Spreading the Christmas Cheer...

Okay, this is a good one because it helped me create better ideas this year than the few in the past!

#1) Went to the local "Rescue Ranch" and spent most of the day there... not to help the other volunteers as much as to give the animals some human contact; which they do get there better than the county or city shelters. The "Rescue Ranch" is  a privately owned shelter for animals, and the people are very dedicated... which makes me really happy to begin with!

Played fetch with some... brushed the coats on others... played fetch with more... took some on a nice walk in the area. There was a lot of smiling doggies, and very content cats.

#2) Played BINGO at the Elks Lodge this week and won a $300 Jackpot on a BLACKOUT!!  Woot! Woot! I go with my neighbor down the street (She is 90 years old BTW... and goes better than I do...a real go-getter!)

Anyway... I go with 2 ladies...I split the winnings between the 3 of us because other than that win... none of us had all night long! This way we all got to take home more than we spent!

#3) Sent a care package to the county jail that is located here in the town where I live. (I have unfortunately been there before...minor details) and I know how much the inmates like to get paper, pencils, and newspapers...so I  sent them a 3 month subscription for that...sent one to the men's unit and one to the women's.

Then all kinds of drawing supplies, including paper...plain, colored, and lined. And coloring books and crayons... they love those! It helps them get through the day from one hour to the next...and also a deck of playing cards. Of course all this stuff has to be be factory sealed.

I called and spoke with a guard that I know and asked about an inmate that is trusted and will be there for at least 30 days, and then I sent that person $30 to be put on their books.

This is for all the inmates in the cell (they house 5 to 6 people)... for coffee... soap....lotion.... other essentials that not everyone gets, (or they run out before they can buy more... you only get to go "shopping" once a week).

The last thing was to get a $20 phone card for them to also share. If you do not have one you cannot even make a collect call from the housing.

This is a relatively small country town... we all pretty much know each other whether you have been incarcerated or not... and I do know that the stuff will be shared as intended... it just works that way, plus the guard I spoke with will keep watch... not priority watch, but nevertheless... just watch, and also mention it to everyone that needs to know.. like someone who needs soap or lotion... or coffee!!!!


Anyway, those are the things I have done to spread some quality Christmas Cheer this year! I also said prayers for all my family, friends, and kind strangers, and all the animals in the world who do not have a home I say prayers for them everyday! I think that problem is what makes me the very saddest when I see it... it truly breaks my heart... (and it makes me weep... and cry!)

One of my favorite things to do in the holiday spirit is to participate in a neighborhood random goodie door drop. The whole idea behind it is to anonymously leave a simple treat or gift on a door step with a note to pay it forward with thier own to someone else. If you have been a recipient you place the incuded note on your door saying "Holiday Cheer has been spread here" so the next person paying it forward knows to go to a different house to share. Its a fun way to include my kids in gathering cookies and thoughtful gifts teaching them to show kindness to strangers. Happy Holidays , silverpeach

NOT including in contest as I know I just have ONE post but how's this for a good deed my ex has very little money(and I had none either) so I sacrificed my xmas gift from my sister and my sister sent her money instead of me getting a gift

I work part time as a special constable ( volunteer police) Last year around xmas time, when on duty near a supermarket, I noticed a lady about to sit a child in a car with no booster seat. Rather than issuer her with a fine, my colleague and I went and bought her one to have (obviously also pointing out the danger in not having one) A gift for the child really - although she may have preferred a Barbie.

I make the firemen and police cranberry bread in appreciation for their service. I know they must miss their family during the holidays. 

U r asking 4 our random acts of kindness, well, i`ll try 2 tell u some of the acts i did during the last 2 weeks in 50 words, no less I gave a latte machiatte coffee 2 a poor foreign woman: i saw her in the doorway of the grocery store trying 2 sell bulletins ab the lives of homeless ppl. My act 4 her gave me happy feeling because i gave her smth warm: coffee & my love. The other act was: reaching out 4 vegetables in the same store 4 another woman: she`s 2 short 2 catch it herself & i`m a tall man Here`s another act: trying 2 touch my wife when i`m in pain every day because of the illness i feel in my nerves & muscles: that`s why even a gentle touch of love against my skin hurts: i hope u understand what i ment. I miss my child: she don`t know i`m here & still alive, i miss my parents: i can`t talk with them anymore because they  both died of cancer during christmastime. I hope this world soon will b filled with more love: the more, the better. I`m  out of words..i guess a crossed the limit of 50.. MERRY XMAS

My children are now 26 and 30 years old. But from the time the oldest was 8 until the younger graduated high school I was a single mom. If it hadn't been for my mother - God rest her soul - and my local food bank times would have been much worse than they were for our small family. I had the opportunity recently to  help a woman in line in front of me at the grocry store. She was picking items to put back because she was short on money. It wasn't junk food...it was fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, meat, etc... I remembered the days when I had to pick and choose because money was short and it broke my heart. I offered the cashier some extra money to cover her bill. I am so grateful that I am now married to a wonderful man and reached the point in my life when I have a little extra to help someone else.

All right in this 2014 a group of friends of my university and I, start with the idea of giving some hot drink every friday to the homeless in the street of bronx in Bogota "i need to say this is the most problematic zone in the city with a population of almost 25k homeless.

So we think in a friday night party we spent almost 150$ for person thats means six of us spend 900$ with that money we can buy pieces of bread and some coffe to make hot drinks and give it to them so why not? then we contact to the priest "Hector" the priest of the local church and he helps us to enter in the street with out any problems with the help of 4 homeless "el negro" "tres dedos" "chimbo" y "el chueco" we enter in the zone with 4 pots of coffe and almost 500 of pieces of bread the first night and we find some special thing doing that because usually every night about 300 homeless benefit from our work and while we served a steaming cup some times they start to speak and we listen his stories.

The cartonero with a machete wound in his head some professionals who stayed on the streets to go after drugs and alcohol grandmothers who were abandoned or young people from other cities who come to Bogota to try to earn some money with prostitution

At times one remains upset one complaint many times by nonsense but some people really are suffering and have much more serious problems right now we are making another recolection with my friends to give them the oportunity to celebrate a christmas right now in facebook we are recolecting toys clothes and food to give the oportunity to have a great christmas this 24 of december! :3

2014 for me was not ice: due to problems with vision, I was in the hospital. With me in the room lay a woman. She was  very poor. I regaled her with all that brought me (in our hospitals are fed bad). When I checked out, then left her some my things and one  warm blanket. It is not of my winnings, but just my stuff. She was very grateful, and I was glad to give  something to help her.

Being nice to other people is a "full time" job. It's not abut Christmas or any other Holiday. Nothing can make you to be nice and help to other people, than ourselves. Sometimes the biggest joy is in the smallest things. For me there is not better feeling than when you make other people happy and smiling, especially kids.
I'm an Orthodox Christian and our Christmas is on 7th January. For last 9 years I'm living in a small street with 7 houses, and in my street we have 8 kids that are 8 years at most. So in last 4 years on Christmas I buy them а packet full of chocolate, snacks, small toys etc. and give them. Their happiness is priceless.

Being a single woman with just enough income to pay my bills (and entertain myself a little with the slots) I don't have extra money to contribute to charities. I have 2 sons in college living at home, and 3 married daughters with a total of 6 grandchildren; one is due on Christmas Day!
My acts of kindness are giving of my time....I babysit! My daughter that is due on Christmas has a 3 year old and she also does daycare. I have been picking up my 3 year old granddaughter a few nights a week after I get off work so that my daughter can relax. I also watch the other grandkids during the week  and on weekends so that the parents can go Christmas shopping or just give them a chance to have some alone time.
Don't get me wrong, I love spending time with my grandchildren so it's not always just an act of kindness. Only on those days that I have worked all day and am dead tired, or I give up my weekends to get things done so that others can get their things done.
There are many things I would to make others lives better; for now I only have time to focus on family, but kindness has to start somewhere.

Hi all,

I've always been a firm believer that you do to others what you would like to happen to you and have always tried to treat people in the best way that i can.  I do try and do charity work and help out as much as i can as it doesn't cost me anything to stand and collect money and help out just a bit of my spare time which im more than willing to give.  Below is a picture of my daughter out collecting with me yesterday for the NCBI a charity to help people with sight loss.  She is great at helping and i hope im teaching her the importance of helping others and how rewarding it is.
But even if you cant do this there are so many ways you can bring a little kindness into someones life and it can be as small as giving someone a hug , dropping round to see them or even a phone call.  At this time of year there are lots of ppl feeling lonely and it is a big time for some to suffer from depression having suffered from it myself it can be very hard. So any little act of kindness im sure is much appreciated and seeing all the lovely posts from members is really great
I'd lastly like to wish all all a merry christmas and a happy and healthy new year may all your wishes come true.

This Christmas, I have been taking care of seven inside dogs for a wonderful older lady in need.  I LOVE animals so it was very easy for me to want to take on this job.  Three weeks ago, the sweet lady ended up falling and has really messed up her knee.  She will need knee replacement surgery.  I have volunteered to take care of her as well now!  I don't mind it.  I do not look at Christmas as a present giving/receiving event.  I just look at it as any other day where you are to help those in need.  I will be there for her for the next six months.  While there may not be monetary rewards for this, knowing I have helped a dear person AND her seven dogs and four barn cats are the best gift for me.  You can't replace that warm feeling of love you get when you give it. 

Thank you for letting me be a part of this. I am living here in Salt Lake City, Utah and on the 39th I am taking a bus to Oregon to live.  My mother is there with other family and my most valueable is my two grandkids are there I miss them bery much.  My son livers here is Utah and when I go I am going to  give him my truck since he dosent have a vehicle, he is going to be very exicited when I take it to him.

The most important thing for me about Christmas is giving the Joy around, so this Year We've managed to give our accoustic concerts to local orphanage, 2 schools and another one to painter's exhibition. To tell You the truth, We ain't proffesional musicians - just two guitars and one lady-singer, but we doing it from the bottom of the heart and best rewards for us is not money, but applauds and warm-faces.
Best present is to give! Your attention, the good word, share the kindness just as good people does.
I believe LCB is good people community, so we all could bring some Joy for others and around in many ways!

It's been a lean mean year in terms of cash this year. We have suffered a lot of set backs, and now we are living with our eldest son and his wife and family. My husband has been diagnosed with COPD and I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia as well as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Neither one of us is able to work any more and are now both collecting social security. It has been very difficult especially for my husband, a man who has worked very hard since the age of twelve. We lost out home, our vehicle, and our lives as we knew it. If not for the generous hearts of our son and his wife, we would be homeless. My husband is no longer able to ambulate and is pretty much totally dependent upon me to do every thing for him. This hasn't stopped us from charitable works though, if any thing it has shown us just how desperately simple acts of kindness are needed in this world. This Christmas we have had a lot of fun spreading Christmas cheer to a lot of the needier children in our area. What we like to do is go to the local toy stores. My hubby gets an electric cart, and we walk and ride around the store observing the parents who are there trying to purchase things they cannot afford for their children in order to give them a happy Christmas. We watch the parents and the kids, and we pick out a family that appears to be the neediest. Then we purchase games, usually board games, for their kids and we wait outside the store for them to come out. Then we walk up to the kids and present them with a game. It is a wonderful thing to see their eyes light up when they realize that we are giving them something for free! Many of these kids look to their parents before accepting the gifts, making sure it's okay for them to accept a present from a stranger, we think. We keep wrapping paper in the car and we wrap the gifts and tell the children to take them home and put them under their trees to be opened on Christmas morning. Our own grandchildren have given up their gifts this year and they often accompany us on our search and gift giving trips. The grandchildren seem to get a really big kick out of these trips, and we think it is important for them to learn the value of charity. It has truly been a blessed Christmas for us this year because of these trips, and we feel our grandchildren have learned a valuable lesson, it really is better to give than to receive! They understand this may be their last Christmas with their grandfather and they truly are enjoying this Christmas pass time! It has made our Christmas very special.

This month I did lots of random acts of kindness
I am an active member at the local Red Cross since 2011.Every year we go to orphanages and give a lot of presents to less fortunate kids.There are a lot of kids here without a family and it is a great feeling to see them smile again, at least for Christmas.
Also this month I made a donation of 100$ to an animal shelter (cats, dogs).I really love animals and it is very nice to see that they have money for surgeries, food and everything those animals need.The funny thing was that they let me name a dog, actually it is my favorite dog from the shelter, and I named him Rudolph ) .
Of course I bought a lot of presents for my family members and I hope they will be very happy because this month Santa "casino" was very generous.

There are a lot of people with no-one tomorrow (Christmas). Some of us are more fortunate than others. It doesn't take much to make a difference in someone's life. Something just as simple as a smile or hello will do. Doing Christmas my Wife and I hold a benefit concert at our local coffee house. We match whatever is raised and donate it to 'Kids living with HIV.' The world we all live in could be a much better place. If only we all put a little love in our hearts.

I believe prayer changes thing. This Christmas I want all who reads this to Pray for a better tomorrow for each and everyone. Jesus is the reason for Christmas. The Bible teaches us that God so loves the world that he sent his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. Jesus made an awesome sacrifice for all mankind that believes in him. Time itself is based on his Birth.

My favorite Christmas deed has been rehoming my kitten.  A young lady has a five year old who wants a kitten very badly.  We have shared photos on the computer with the little girl and she calls it the "Puter kitty"
Today, I am sharing a photo, hopefully with a Santa hat on the kitty. 

So, her mom and I are working very hard to pull of a surprise and bring her a gorgeous, kitten who is a beautifully marked calico with long hair.  I can't wait to see how much little Nevaeh loves her Puter Kitty.

My random act of kindness was planned, but random? Every year I pick a couple angels off the angel tree. It always fills my heart with joy to buy for kids that are less fortunate to receive gifts under the tree Xmas morning, well I completely forgot to do this, this year as this month has been a horrible month in terms of family with my hubby in and out of the hospital for two surgeries (trying to rule out lymphoma cancer).  I was sitting at my laptop the first of this week and thought to myself you might still have time to grab a couple gifts and drop them off at the Salvation Army. Well Monday morning as I was finishing up some work, I get a call that my real father had passed away about 130 am Monday morning. 

This, of course devastated me and once again I lost my train of thought as to what I was and supposed to be doing to get ready for Xmas and all of my errands I needed to run which included contacting the Salvation Army. I got through the day and ran to Walmart that evening to grab a few things. As I got to the door there were two bell ringers, one looked like they were getting ready to let the other one take over. Once again I thought this is a sign I need to talk with them when I leave to see if there was still time to send over some gifts. As I walked outside the older man had a guitar and was sitting on a chair singing a Christmas song. I stopped in my tracks, and just listened for a few minutes. I said I am sorry I usually buy gifts every year but this year I wasn’t able to so here is a little donation that I hope will help. He just stared at me almost like he was feeling my pain or knew what I was thinking, it was just weird. What seemed like an eternity of us staring at each other, which I’m sure it was seconds, he said ma’am god bless you, I hope you have the best Christmas ever.

Anyway, that man touched me in more ways than I can explain. IT was almost like it was my father staring at me through this man. This is the season for giving and when it comes to helping others that are less fortunate than most of us, it’s a blessing to help our fellow sisters and brothers, even in times of mourning, grieving etc. Merry Xmas everyone may God Bless us all with the new year in health love and peace.

I had a story I would like to share.  My fiancee's aunt is a very special person.  She is someone who never appreciate what you've done for her and will ready to blame you if something goes wrong on whatever you are trying to help her.  She does not know much about technology nor know how to use it, but she's always on trend with new stuffs.  For example, she bought a new window 8 laptop, but did not know how to use it.  Even some basic functions like open up a browser or checking email,....  She bought an ipad air and upgraded her samsung phone to iphone 6, but again she didn't know how to use it and that caused us a headache because she kept calling us over and over again for help.  Anyway, she wanted to watch live television and bought an Apple TV.  I told her that she should return it because she already had an iphone and ipad which could do what the Apple TV does and Apple TV is not live TV, but rather they play recorded tv or videos like youtube.  Well, she thought that I was suck and did not know how to make it work.  She asked her friends for help and eventually she still couldn't watch live tv.  Couple months went by and I just discovered a way to watch live TV for free using a TV Tuner and Window Media Center from Windows 7.  I did some research and bought the"AVERMEDIA H837 AVerTV Volar Hybrid Q HDTV & FM Radio", it was a very good TV tuner that beat all its competitors in my opinion.  It was easy to set up and I can watch live TV over the air or some unencrypted channels from Time Warner Cable.  I told my fiancee that I found a perfect gift for your aunt.  I ordered the same TV tuner one week after and sent it as an early christmas gift to my aunt in law.  I have achieved 3 goals by sending this less than $50 gift.  First, my aunty was extremely happy because she could watch live TV without paying a penny to a cable television company.  Second, I proved my point about Apple TV.  It was not live TV and it was a waste of money when she already had an iphone and ipad.  Third, my fiancee was happy because we received many good complements about the live TV setup when we were at her aunty's house for the christmas party.

What I did was a act of kindness for a little Girl that was crying after some guy that was very upset slap her and her ice cream, she was crying , she was at the front of my store and everyone was yelling regarding the act of violence that took place. I was there looking at the scene and was upset as well, poor little girl. I decide to blend down and talk to the little girl while all adult didn't care about the Little girl and more about the men and the act of violence that took place.
So I talk and comfort the Little girl she was about 10 years, she was dress like a little princess I can say.
I talk to her with kind word, explain to her that what just happen had nothing to do of how she was dressing up or what she was doing, she was simply walking with her mother.
I kindly talk to her telling her that she had to forget about the even that the guy didn't slap her  because she wasn't a good girl but it was simply because she was there while he was really upset.
At the moment she stop crying and had no hate and she clearly understood and smile at me.
I think I save her from been frustrating at men for the rest of her life, I show her forgiveness and kindness explain to her about even that could happen and she is not relate but can be involve.

Went all adult stop for a moment yelling and realize how stupid they act, everyone understood and saw the little girl happy and feeling free without any fear.
I felt that at the moment if no one would had talk to her, specially at the moment she would certainty developed some kind of hate trough men, she would still continue to dress like a little princess and eventually she would see men as predator. I presume she was leaving only with her mother.

The act of violence that took place could change her life in a negative way, I was so happy that I took my courage and take some time to talk to her and explain the situation telling her that the men didn't had any again her that there's in this word Good men with good spirit and good heart.

Love is everything, compassion, understanding is all it take that would solve so many problem in this word.
I was happy that I could at some point fix a broken spirit so she can continue her life without any fear or worry.

Every Christmas I show my appreciation to all those men and women who I see almost weekly, some every day. That is the mail lady, grocery store clerks and cashiers and lawn guy. I keep $10 gift cards in my purse and hand them out when I see them. Its my way of saying thanks  Hope your Christmas's was grand and Happy New Year to all!

So, random act of kindness...
I love animals very much, especially dogs. I am very sad to see stray animals on the streets of my city. Unfortunately, in my country government cares little power even for people and animals in general always abandoned to their fate.
A while ago my friend tell me about cute homeless puppy walking around his home. I went there and decided to take this dog to my home. I give her name "Nancy" as the heroine of "Sin City" movie
One of my biggest dreams of childhood - to open an animal shelter. I hope once it realized

When I confronted my own mental disorder, I went to school so I can work in the field and give up my luxurious career in sales. I work in the most neglected section of Los Angeles and help a community in dire need of mental health services in the area. I now just make enough to get by, but the rewards in seeing the change I make in people's lives is the most rewarding no matter how tired I get each day I go home. A specific case I worked on that had an immediate impact is housing a s young single mother of 2 who was abused and almost killed by her baby's biological father. She hid at friends' and at shelters and he managed to find her and managed to go under the radar from the cops. By getting her subsidized housing, she now feels empowered and able to feel invisible from the abusive father of her baby. I feel safer knowing where she is and the authorities looking for this individual who almost took a life. (over 50 words?) I can't give names due to confidentiality in the healthcare industry.

Hello everyone this is story from last year

My girlfriend works in a foster home as an educator. She don't talk too much about her work but sometimes she open her soul and talk to me about children and their sad but brave liefs.

We live in country where there isn't always money for all, special for homeless and abounded children and all peoples who need help.

So one day before New year I saw that she was unhappy.
-Don't ask me anything, she said… holidays are coming and they couldn't provide present for children, they didn't hire a Santa and people from their administration was talking only about cost and budget and their only worries was how to reduce expenses.

We sat in silence for a while, she explained to me how this kids need a little bit of joy and how much holidays means to them because that is one day in a year when they felt important… although in practice, this day is not different from any other day for them. They don't receive any gifts, no holidays card for them and lights is out at 9 o'clock like every other night…

I came home and looked at my saving, which stood next to the catalog with parfumes and I immediately knew that I am found the perfect gift for New Year.

I couldn't believe how much candy can be purchased instead of the original perfume. I borrowed a Santa suit from a buddy (I I didn't have boots so I was in my Air max ha ha but never mind ) and without notice I went to her workplace.

When I was at the gate I called her on the phone and I told her that I come and get her a sandwich for breakfast. – And she was in shock… she didn't figured it out that I am Santa and she yelled: Hey people, it seems that they send us Santa… and when she recognized me her eyes were full of tears.

Oh my… I will never forget smiles of those children. They were hugging me, smiling at me and their first question was: Where do you came from?

I must tell that after six month I proposed my girlfriend and now we are engaged but that is story for another time

Dear friends! I work in two places and at the second job is a tradition of Christmas party for employees. Who is declared the best agent of December (from the 1st until the 15th of the month) will organise the  Christmas party. Being my first year at the company and the desire to make a good impression i pulled tad harder than usual and i won.Every year for Christmas my wife and I make a donation to a needy familie depending on how we went in that year. A week ago I was talking to her and how we fared brilliantly this year we decided that when we go shopping for Christmas dinner to make those shopping twice, once for us and the second ones donate them to other families. Now my work has been entrusted to organize a 3000 euro Christmas party and I did not know what knead all kind of party to organize. Of course the one that saved me was my wife who said that we could hold the party at our home with as little expense, we call on everyone willing to help with meal preparation, arranging home and all you need. After all the preparation I gave one email to all colleagues and my boss that party will be held  at 18.00. We did not spend more than 500 euros of the amount allocated to the party because of our numerous friends and family and the rest I paid for meal preparation and a Christmas tree full of gifts to a nursing home for 64 grandparents, and using catering company I even get them a band to entertain . I went with my wife at the grandparents party, I spent a little time there to make sure that everything was as it should. I was congratulated and asked to make a film to show my friends and colleagues and it was very beautiful. I was sure the film was one cheerful and full of Christmas spirit not to spoil the good mood of colleagues and especially to my boss on Christmas Eve. The big day arrived, everyone gathered at the appointed time in our home and before they start spending gave them each Christmas card made specially for each of them and we all looked at the 15 minutes of footage of the party held at the nursing home and received the message of gratitude, and everyone was impressed. I apologized for my gesture arguing that just like us  15 people ,it is possible to make 64 grandparents feel the Christmas spirit. I'm glad I have so wonderful colleagues and with a big heart and although they did not know anything you could read on their faces how proud they were that they did a good deed . Although we are very busy, sometimes you have to stop and just open your eyes to the suffering of older people who dont have anyone and the old age left them helpless  and the society looks the other way.I hoped you had  A Merry Christmas with those who love you and a happy new year

I like to donate money to motherless children in foster homes and homeless people, even if i don`t have money i give them clothes or food, sweets etc.I feel really sorry for them, seeing  other people celebrating with their relatives and friends  :'(Little children are very happy, even if you give them only a chocolate   Also like to get in touch with relatives or at least phone them, because i see them rarely and the old people are very happy, when i don`t forget them.I`m positive man and like to make good every day, not only on the holidays.

It's rare that I travel to downtown Los Angeles. Ever since I started jury duty I've been making that commute for almost two weeks and having to see the homeless living in their make shift shelter made me sick to my stomach. On the flip side my son whose birthday is three days before Christmas is honest to god spoiled. There is nothing he wants for and it's more my  fault than mine. I say this because in the past my  would tell me this is the only child I'm ever going to have. So if I want to spoil him I'm going to. With that being said my son kept on and on the expensive things he was wanting for his birthday/Christmas. It got to the point where honestly I was getting quite disgusted. What I decided to do was I made 100 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches on the 23rd. On the 24th I took my son down to skid row and him and I handed out sandwiches and bottle water to the homeless. Needless to say he couldn't wait to get back to the comfort of our home. Once we got back home I made another 100 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the next day which was Christmas. So Christmas morning I woke my son up early we drove down to a different part of Los Angeles where's there's a lot of homeless and we handed out sandwiches and bottle water. After everything was said and done I could tell my son was reflecting on what we had done those two days and he looked sad. When I asked him if he wanted to talk about it he said no. I know those two days of handing out food and water has hopefully changed my son for the better.

Tinker.. That brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for sharing. When I was a teenager, my church youth group volunteered at thanksgiving to serve needy families in echo park. My dad said there was no way in he|| I would go, it wasn't safe down there. Well, I ended up taking my own kids down to the mission last year, and it brought more pride, and taught them more of a lesson than any words could ever do. I understand where my dad was coming from, but I wish at the time he would've even suggested going with me. It's a lesson that lasts a lifetime, and it only makes you want to do more.

Well I was a little short on money this holiday season due to trying to pay back some old bills but I did manage to do one random act of kindness.  I went to the local coffee shop and ordered in the drive through and paid for the coffee of the person that pulled in behind me.  It wasn't much but was the least I could do.  Funny thing is, the next day when I went back, someone did it for me.  Pay it Forward!  Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!!!

In spring 2014. my country, Serbia was affected by floods, which one bring to lot of people trouble. We witness in some bad situation, when lot of people stayed without their homes, cars, and without their jobs. Two towns are completely destroyed, and several thousands people stay without anything.
In this days in Serbia, everybody who wasn’t affected was helpfull. Some people were included in savage action, and some of us were included in building walls from sand, to protect towns and villages from water. My city wasn’t affected, but I have several friends which one stayed without their homes.
Almost next day, I realise that we must help somehow to affected people. We saw on television, that many other people from Croatia, Russia, Bulgaria, and Greece are helping to us and I decided to organise charity action where people could bring up food, water, or money for those people who were affected. We had two stands, at local bars, and in the first evening we gathered over 1000 euros in money, food and clothes. Tomorrow we bring all of the staff to the local Red Cross, where they asked us to help. Next evening in Red Cross organization we had 10 stands, where we gathered water, food, and clothes for almost two trucks.
We were aware that is not enough, but we were proud because we showed up to the our country that every person can do small things, in order to achieve big goals. At the end, all help went where they were needed, and we felt some sort of proud because we helped on our way to our country.

I'm not gonna drag this out, as I'm not normally known for my acts of kindness, I'm a pretty quiet guy who keeps himself to himself.

I did however invite my family, and my fiancee's family to mine for christmas dinner.

All went well and was going well, just after the meal but before the pudding, my mother in law to be announced she was working and had to go to a call (she works for home help, people who need assisstance at home)

Turns out the guy lived on my street about 5 doors down, so she went to attend to him, just a quick visit to see he was okay and to ask if he needed anything.

When she arrived back she was in quite a sombre mood, telling me how the guy (who does have family) was on his own watching T.V.

It made me thank, as I myself lost my great grandfather on Christmas day, so it's not ALWAYS a happy time for everyone, and it's amazing how some peoples day can be changed.

So I asked her if it was okay with her work to invite him over, she said it wasn't but I mean c',mon it's christmas, I said ask him over anyway,

We all know when it comes to christmas there is always too much food etc going around.

So he came over, he had some home made soup, spoke to my father about old times around the town etc, and seemed to have a good time.

Later he thanked us and my mother in law walked him home, I'd like to hope we helped him out a bit that day. Weather he was on his own through choice or not, maybe he needed something to take his mind off bad memories? I dont know but he left in a fine mood

I've not read this thread and my story, isn;t life changing or life saving, but sometimes it's the little things that count.

Well it seems a bit insignificant in comparison to so many great stories posted in this thread.....

Whenever I got to one of the big brick and mortar casinos, I have to cross a toll bridge. Although I cannot claim the idea as my own, my significant other and I always pay for the next vehicle behind us. We ask the toll booth attendant if it is ok and to tell them that it is just a random act of kindness (doing so also prevents the next car from thinking it is an act of flirtation which could be awkward, trust me. lol).

The way I look at it, is that if I have the money to go play and risk losing. If I do lose, at least I still did something positive with part of it.    =p

My New Years good deed to be proud of is dedicated to my mother.  For a long time I know that she has a friend which she hasn’t seen for years. I don’t understand how people lose contact for years, but I guess that’s life. I was looking for her on Facebook once but I couldn’t find any lead to her.
It stuck on my mind for a while and I decided that before the New Year I take one step more and I start sending messages on Facebook (which was my only tool) everyone with same last name. I was hoping to get some respond and that will be the best gift for my mum for New Year.
Although I wasn’t the most pleasant to send messages to strangers but I didn’t give up. But already was half of December and I didn’t get any respond but I was hoping to make it.
And one night I receive message on Facebook from some girl name Margha-I can help you.. I think that is my mother but I need more details. I was so happy and I was chatting with this girl whole night. I was exciting and I felt that she is too. At first she wanted to surprise her mother too but that was impossible because they need a reason to come to Amsterdam. So few days later she text me again and tell me-expect us tomorrow.
I told to my mother that I expecting guest but I didn’t tell her who coming. – Someone is at the door she said to me and I was pretending that I didn’t hear. She opened the door and Margha was step a side and let her mum to see her old friend : ) I was surprised how they recognized eachoter at first look. After that they go to separate room and talking for hours. I was with Margha. We take a walk, I was showing her Amsterdam but that story doesn’t have happy end ha ha .. she had a boyfriend : )

Me and my friends were always going to a fancy New Years Eve. Expensive parties, music and stuff like that. But this year, inspired with one story which I read in newspapers I decided to spend my money different.

I was reading about one family who live in some village far from Moscow. Husband, wife and three children. They live tough life, poor, without electricity in some old house. Child go incredible 10km to school in one way and they must walk.
I was touched by their wishes for Christmas and New Year. While other kids asking for laptop, mobile phones and other stuff, the youngest child, girl Elena was asking for a cow. She tell that cow is gonna feed her family whole year and still she can play with cow. I was thrilled.
Very quick I found information how can I donate money and whole my saving for new Year I donate to this family. The feeling is great.

After few days I find out that other people also make some donation and they receive enough money to repair their house, buy some gift and at the end to buy them a cow : )

I must admit that you guys (LCB) on some level inspired me to do this, because when I first read this contest I was start thinking what I can to do… So tomorrow night I will be at my home with my family just doing nothing for New Year but I feel amazing because I know that I am done something good : )

This year my life was full with acts of kindness.

My country, Ukraine, now is under anti-terroristic operation, in other words, in war. Unfortunately, Ukrainian Government is unable to supply needed volume of food, clothes and equipment to Military Forces. Every time, I go shopping, I meet volunteers, who work to help our Army to survive. In spite of that thing that our usual people became 3 times poor since national currency  devaluation and of rising prices people share all they have. That's our regular life now.

So, I sent big packages of  clothing, regularly buy food and give it to volunteers near supermarkets, send change remaining from my bank spending to special military funds. Every Friday I bring packs of paper and plastic to kindergarten, where they sell it to utilization company and provide money to help injured military people in our town. I did not count how much I have spent, I give as much as I can.

Yesterday, during my usual shopping, I bought cakes, sugar, tea and some sweets for New Year celebration for our soldiers. They also should have something sweet in their hard life.

instilling that hope never goes out and does not catch the path of drug addiction,They also did activities of dancing and a small December party, the activity of dance was won by Juan rodrigues and the girl from bike path Amanda Reyes ,each one receive their prize of $50 dollars and for the elders of the Third Age they gathered together a collection to give them a small market many blessings in this holiday season and merry Christmas to all which in December for darker display the siemre life light open each year and we will be willing to give joy to those who need it most.

Oh, I almost missed a contest again 
so.. ALERT! Boring post incoming! 

Well, first of all - a little bit of complaining  Every year before christmas there are a lot of events when everyone wants to help everyone. People are so kind, helpful and so on - too bad they alway forget about ones who need help badly when christmas time is over...  >:( the best example is an animal shelter where I'm a volunteer for last few months - well it's really nice that we got a lot of extra cash, food, more people showed up than usual.. Which was really nice (at least buying stuff for our dogs didn't made me broken this month  ), just too bad that people forget about their "kindness" few days/weeks later... That reminds me when pope John Paul II died... He was Polish so it made everyone in my country even more sad. I still remember football fans of clubs which were fighting with each other all the time and when they announced that pope died they were shaking hands, forgot about all of that hate...
Too bad that just for 2-3 days. Then in TV News everyone heard about all of those fights, senseless violence and so on. I have no idea what has to happen for people to actually change...

Well, OK, before everyone gets bored of reading I'll post something on topic 
It won't be an amazing story about me giving a kidney to a stranger or anything like one of these..




Well, it will be just a story of my day before christmas which made me laugh 
I went to meet my family, spent some time at my mom's home and then took a walk to meet my grandma. It was raining hard (too bad it wasn't snow!  >:() and I saw an "old" woman (lshe was like 50 so not so old actually  ) who was moving d to her basement. So I picked up few of those den boards to help her. She was so scared, looked at me and said "I've paid for it..."  She probably thought I'm going to steal some of those  I said that I just want to help her what surprised her  Once we're done with it she thanked me and asked if I wanna to drink a tee. I was in a little bit rush so I just wished her merry christmas and went to my grandma.

After one hour or so I got a call from my friend who lives nearby that they are organizing christmas meeting for homeless people and asked if I could help them. So I went to her friend's house, helped them with all the cooking, setting furnitures and so on. Then our "guests" arrived and... we ran out of chairs! We didn't expect that sooo many people will show up... We were looking at each other, thinking what to do now. There was noone at my mom's home, our guests should arrive tomorrow so I said that we can go there and bring all of chairs that are there. And we did it. I spent like 1-2 hours more there. And I was really surprised how happy all of those homeless people were... Well, probably they were "enjoying the moment", trying to forget about all of their problems. Anyway, it was getting late so I left my friends with them and go back to my mom's. And I was really surprised when I saw a lot of people there They said that they're going to be tomorrow and arrived earlier... So there were like 6 people sitting on a bed, my sister and her husband sitting on the floor ( ) and my mom asking "Luke, do you know what happened to our chairs?"  "-Ummm, they will be back tomorrow..."  couldn't stop laughing 

Okay, enough of writing, I'm tired of thinking in english already and my acts of "christmas" kindness weren't done to brag so just once again.. Don't forget about everyone that need your help once christmas is over. There's nothing better than making someone happy. Just follow this simple advice and you'll be "winner" - not in online contest but a real one - in your own eyes.

Relationships with our pets are quite often a very important part of people's lives, providing companionship among other benefits. Many times without realizing it,  on a daily basis we perform random act of kindness toward animals and our pets to care for their well being and quality of life. I have 2 kitties which are indoor and spayed/neutered so they lead a stress free life but not all have that going for them.  Last week i while walking by our neighbors I noticed their two kitties who are indoor/outdoor were itching and licking a lot and upon petting one of them I noticed some irritated skin spots. I wanted to help the kitties (of course not wanting to intrude on our neighbors but knowing them and knowing they care about their kitties) so I offered my neighbors 2 tubes of advantage flea treatment. They said they were very happy because they were tight on money with the holidays and were worried about their kitties until they could afford to buy some. So we put the treatment on and since they said one of the kitties skin also may be irritated due to a food allergy, I recommended the cat food we buy which is corn free etc., and is affordably priced.  They went out and bought it the very next day. The kitties were happy, the neighbors were happy, and I felt good.  In the beginning I could have seen it as $20 for the flea treatment they needed but instead I thought of making the kitties feel better and the neighbors too.  Thats what we do when we perform random acts of kindness. International Random Acts of Kindness Week is February 9-15, 2015

I have performed random acts of kindness to spread the Christmas cheer over this holiday season in several instances. 
Most recently by working on my neighbors roof to fix a leak that they were in distress about.  Because of my work experience and training I have a lot of skills that other people don't have.
I often use my skills to help others in need because they can't do it themselves and often can't afford to have someone else do it for them.
These are important things to do for others I know but ever since it happened there is one random act of kindness which I performed that is first in importance to me and a special family that I know quite well now.
It is a difficult story to tell so I will just let you all know that back on June 25th 2014 there was a fire directly behind where I live and using my training I was able to rescue a little 8 year old boy who after a long recovery in the hospital is now home with his family. 
It was consoling to know he is with his family for Christmas and the holidays. 
A random act of kindness can change our lives.

I'm impressed by the acts of kindness that i have read here and today i would like to share one of my acts of kindness.
So last week we got a fair bit of snow and I was parked at a four way stop light.I noticed an older and disabled man in a motorized scooter was trying to cross the road but he was stuck in the snow and his tires were just spinning.People were just walking but not even helping!!!
I was the first in line at the light so I couldn't get out right away but once it turned green I went though and safely pulled over and got out and pushed him out.I even escorted him across the street and made sure he got up onto the sidewalk.
Its not much but I think I really made him happy and made myself feel good as well.

I was a little reluctant to share my story because its personal to one of my dear close friends, but I figured since none of you know her, it would be good to pass on the love.
A good friend of mine has a daughter who is turning 2 years old on January 1st. She is a really good person, very intelligent, just got her masters degree in social work,and currently works with kids that have behavioral problems. She is not married, but has been dating her boyfriend for 5 years, and they live together. Her boyfriend is a recovering addict, 5 years clean. I dont know him that well, but he always seemed to be a good enough guy. He doesnt work, but stays at home with their daughter while my friend works 2 jobs. Two days before Christmas, she came home from work at 2 am (she bartends part-time) to find her boyfriend and her daughter not there. After an hour of searching and calling everyone they know, she ended up having to go pick her daughter up from a crack house that the baby's father and his ex girlfriend took her to so that they could get high. He stole her debit card, took all of her money, took all of the little girls Christmas presents to trade for drugs or sell. Needless to say, she kicked him out and told him to never come back. In the mean time, its now Christmas eve, and not only is she devastated, she has nothing to give her daughter for Christmas, and no money to buy anything.
With her having no family, and only a few friends that arent really that close, she didnt have anyone to turn to.
Now on the other hand, my husband came home from work the same day with a $300 Christmas bonus. What else could we do. We went out Christmas eve, and bought the little girl a bunch of presents to put under the tree, and invited them to come and spend Christmas with us. She didn't want to be alone,and we didn't want this poor little girls Christmas to be ruined because of her father, who could obviously care less about what he did. They came over and stayed in the guest room, and when we all woke up Christmas morning, Santa had come for both of my kids, and the little girl too. I asked them to come to my and my husbands family for dinner with us,and they came and had a great day. My mom even bought the little girl something so that she had something to open while all of the other kids opened their gifts. I wouldn't have had it any other way. As much as our family could have used the extra money, the smile on the little girls face the entire day was well worth it. We even let her stay at our house for 2 more days so that we could watch her while her mom worked her second job, so that she could make some money for them to survive.

By the way, my husband got the little girls father into a treatment facility 2 days after Christmas, so hopefully he can work on his issues and realize what he did, and hopefully get better.

I don't wish something like this to happen to anyone, and it made me realize that although we don't have much,, I do have a wonderful husband and 2 awesome kids that are the reason I wake up every morning.
