The mighty Yggdrasil hails from the cold regions of Northern Europe, and their name derives from Norse mythology as they spread their masterful portfolio much like the Vikings spread fear in their longships all across the seas – well, obviously in a less terrifying and life-threatening and more in a, “hey, that's a cool game” manner.
Step Into the Vortex...That is Dark
What with days getting shorter and ghosties and ghoulies preparing to make their mark on Halloween, the themes of slot games are becoming darker as well and so we get Dark Vortex – Yggdrasil's latest brainchild...
...This eerie slot has a bunch of cool features that will make every operator's Halloween that much more neat. For instance, in this game, if a player opens a portal to the netherworld they will enter into the mode of a game that yields some truly spectacular wins.
A fully open Vortex will materialize stacked wilds and with 3125 paylines (!) from both left to right and right to left can make for wins 7000 times the wagered amount, on any spin! Now, THAT makes for a good return rate, don't you agree?
And here's the real twist: the Vortex can be opened either “normally,” meaning by playing the base game and getting the right combination of symbols... OR by buying into it via the Buy Bonus feature, which is premiered for the first time in the Yggdrasil game.
Shortcut to Money
During the main gameplay, the ancient vortex can be opened which will transport the player into the world with taller reels, higher pays and stacked wilds – and this is achieved by landing two bonus symbols on adjacent reels...
...Every additional bonus symbol will grow the portal and give additional Vortex spins and if you expand the vortex to cover all reels, this will launch the Extra Spins mode with wild stacks.
Another way to reach the Extra Spins mode is through Buy Bonus, which is activated with a simple 80x bet sacrifice. So, if you are a player with a penchant for fast-paced games and cannot resist a dose of risk – this is for you!
“Humorous Take on Lovecraft”
Jonas Strandman, Yggdrasil's Head of Slots, comments:
“Our humorous take on the lovecraftian universe is no joke – the over 7000x max bet win is third highest for any Yggdrasil game ever! Add to this the excitement of innovative Vortex reels and chance to buy straight into the Free Spins and we’ve got a game that we know will be highly appreciated by seasoned slots spinners, while at the same time being a great gateway to the reels for new players. The operators already seem to share this sentiment as many of our clients have chosen to run their Halloween campaigns on our seasonably suitable dark little gem. Put all that together and what we have here is the makings of a(n oc)cult classic!”
Here is the official trailer for the game:

I have played this game, very recently and I think it is one of the best games that Yggdrasil has ever made. There is so much going on with every spin. There are free spins and Vortex spins that are triggered with the need of only two symbols, when usually to trigger anything, you need three symbols in a row. Well here...

There are free spins and Vortex spins that are triggered with the need of only two symbols, when usually to trigger anything, you need three symbols in a row. Well here you need only two and if another one falls adjacent to the first two, during Vortex spins, it expands and even more spins are added to the first Vortex Spins. The graphics are incredible too!

Sounds interesting, those paylines and potential wins sound tremendous – but we'll see if it really is all what it's cracked up to be.
