Last week, there’s been a significant development for the online sports betting and gaming industry in the United States, as seven major operators announced the formation of the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA).
This independent trade association is dedicated to championing responsible gaming practices and advancing consumer protection initiatives across the burgeoning online gaming landscape.
More Safety and Responsibility
ROGA's establishment marks a collaborative effort among industry leaders to foster a safer and more responsible gaming environment. At the helm of this initiative is Dr. Jennifer Shatley, a renowned expert with over 25 years of experience in responsible gaming advocacy.
Dr. Shatley, currently serving as the president of the Nevada Council on Problem Gambling, brings a wealth of expertise to her role as the executive director of ROGA.
The association's primary objective is to promote a new industry-wide best practices charter, setting a benchmark for responsible gaming standards in the United States. Dr. Shatley will lead ROGA in implementing various initiatives, including research endeavors, consumer and industry education campaigns, and the establishment of an independent data clearinghouse and certification program.
ROGA's founding member companies, comprising some of the largest players in the US online gaming market, have pledged substantial support for the association's mission.
With a combined commitment exceeding $20 million in the first year, member companies including the company BetMGM and its digital division, DraftKings, Fanatics Betting and Gaming, FanDuel, Hard Rock Digital, and PENN Entertainment demonstrate a collective dedication to fostering responsible gaming practices.
Dr. Jennifer Shatley expressed her enthusiasm for leading ROGA and highlighted the association's pivotal role in shaping the future of responsible gaming in the US.
She stated, “I am humbled, honored, and excited to be selected to lead ROGA during this important period of growth in legalized mobile gaming. Together, our members will work alongside researchers, experts, regulators, and stakeholders to promote responsible online gaming.”
A Significant Step for US
ROGA's initiatives underscore a commitment to enhancing consumer protections and accessibility to responsible gaming resources. By collaborating with industry stakeholders and leveraging collective expertise, the association aims to maximize efforts in promoting responsible gaming education and awareness.
The formation of Responsible Online Gaming Association represents a significant step forward for the US online gaming industry, signaling a collective commitment to prioritizing player well-being and responsible gaming practices.
As the association spearheads efforts to implement industry-wide standards, stakeholders anticipate a positive impact on consumer safety and the long-term sustainability of the online gaming sector.

Finally! It’s about time, and actually long overdue for the US to get things organized in the realm of responsible gambling policies for the gamblers and hopefully some regulation for the operators. It’s not like this is a new idea, but the US sadly arrives late to most worthwhile parties
