Back UKGC Starts Discussion on Regulatory Changes

The UK Gambling Commission organized a consultation on upcoming regulatory modifications. The changes are part of constructive gambling policy which will lead to safer and more honest online betting.

The UK regulatory body concentrates on three questions: usersˈ interaction, alternative dispute resolution and betting blocking software. During the debate, the Commission will ask customers, enterprises and interested groups their opinion in relation to the three segments.

Commission Invitation

As part of the program, all stakeholders are invited to express an opinion on possible measures. It includes giving feedback about customersˈ interaction and identification, evaluation of best operations as well taking into consideration the UK Commission's instruction on users’ interaction.

Anticipating the customers' reaction, all UK-approved operators should meet standards while tackling complaints. The licensed operators should also provide an alternative dispute resolution settlement by official institutions. The commission will further explain if the operators should only use services from fully compliant ADR providers.

Further on, the Commission is seeking evidence from casino operators in which they have already provided with free access to blocking software. The body will search for the best possible solution to this matter.

Reactions

The UKGC’s executive director, Paul Hope said:

“We would like as many people as possible to have their say on these two consultations and the call of evidence. The proposed changes are intended to accelerate progress in protecting consumers and preventing them from experiencing gambling-related harm.”

He also added:

“Making gambling fairer and safer is at the heart of how we regulate and better customer interaction, higher ADR standards and facilitating readily available blocking software are all part of this.”

Further Activity

The UK Commission has already announced considerable modifications for the verification process. As stated, operators will have to check users’ age and identity in a more proficient way. The verification process should be completed before customers place their bets. We can also mention an investigation on non-disclosure agreements. The Commission insisted on the investigation when dealing with customersˈ complaints regarding operatorsˈ failure to meet license conditions.

As you can see, the UKGC works with great efforts to provide extraordinary legal solutions. The previously mentioned steps are living proof of serious dedication to online betting. We expect to hear customersˈ opinions on proposed measures very soon.
