Dutch Gaming Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC).
The purpose of the Memorandum is to establish a close cooperation between two regulatory entities who will be in a position to better support each other in their supervisory tasks.
A Good Basis
The KSA/UKGC MoU includes mutual exchange of general information on best practices and anything that may be of note. The two regulatory bodies will be able to share a more specific set of information in the context of enforcement and licensing.
The common goals as outlined in the MoU include combating online gambling-related crime such as terrorist financing and money laundering, protecting players and preventing gambling addiction.
KSA’s Chairman, Rene Jansen, said:
“The MoU forms a good basis for sharing knowledge, cooperation and a smooth exchange of information. A clear signal is also given to providers of games of chance that cooperation is taking place at an international level. Online games of chance move across borders. That is why it is important that regulators work together.”
KSA has previously signed similar Memorandums with the regulatory bodies of Sweden, Belgium, Malta and France.
Multiple Delays
This MoU with one of the world’s strongest regulatory organizations comes before the long-awaited launch of online gambling market in the Netherlands.
The country’s Remote Gambling Act came into effect on April 1st after several delays, after KSA launched the licensing process for operators that wish to offer their services in this country. There will be approximately 35 licenses issued, according to estimates.
KSA has recently started a widespread action to prevent any affiliate marketing of online gambling that is still illegal in this country.
The regulator has examined and analyzed 44 websites in response to their observations and external reports, and imposed sanctions immediately.
The Dutch online gambling market will be open on October 1st.
