SugarHouse is officially due to change its name to Rivers Casino Philadelphia. It comes as part of Rush Street Gamingˈs decision to integrate all of its casinos under the same title. The change will take effect this upcoming fall. The SugarHouse name change will come together with a $15m investment in sportsbook and restaurant facilities.
As a reminder, SugarHouse has just started providing online sports betting products and became the first Pennsylvania venue for these purposes.
Announcement
Commenting on the change, Rush Street CEO, Greg Carlin said:
“This is something we’ve been thinking about for quite a while. I think we are at the point in our company’s history where it makes sense to have a unified brand. All our properties and markets, especially with the advent of online gaming, we think it makes a lot of sense,”
However, the upcoming change will take some time. Carlin added:
“We’re going to buy all new chips, change all the signage, all the shirts, all of the business cards — it’s a long list of things that need to be swapped out. Not only that we’re upgrading the property, but we’re also going to add a state of the art sports book. We’re redoing one of the restaurants. We’re re-carpeting the original casino floor. We’re changing the decorations, we don’t want this just to be a name change, we’re really changing the property as well”.

Recent Events in Pennsylvania
PA has been undergoing numerous gaming-related changes. Only recently, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) authorized the Penn National Gaming plan to work on mini casino in Berks County. The new project, Hollywood Casino Morgantown, will open in 2020 with 750 slot machines and 30 tables. The new casino complex will attract customers from Reading and Philadelphia locations.
