Portugal’s regulated iGaming market has reached new heights, as evidenced in the new report which shows that, in 2019’s final quarter, operators in this country posted their highest quarterly revenue ever.
In total, they have collected €65.4 million in revenue, which was fueled by a 55% rise in sports betting on annual level.
Enviable Numbers
This resulted in the total turnover of €1037.5 billion, which is the absolute record in the history of Portuguese gambling and betting.
The yearly total for the year – of €215.2 million – was boosted by dot.pt operators’ performance. The said yearly revenue is a 41% yearly increase!
To this…
…online casinos contributed with €35 million, which is a 55% of total €63.1 million during the year. Sports betting is responsible for the remaining €28.2 million (45%).
In casinos, slots were the most dominant, as they accounted for 69% of all turnover. Roulette came second with 13.6%, blackjack followed with 8.1%, then came poker with 6.5% and tournament poker with 2.8%.
In terms of sports betting, football (soccer) was the most popular sport and accounted to 75% of all betting.
Estoril Sol and Microgaming Link-Up
Signs of a good year were already there…
…when it was announced that iGaming revenue in the country grew 39.1% in Q3. Casino and sports betting were, again, the main drivers behind this development.
In late 2019, it was announced that one of country’s most successful casinos, Estoril Sol, signed a commercial deal with Microgaming.
The famous developer has launched a range of their most engaging titles with this operator, setting their foot in Portugal after Czech Republic and Sweden in 2019.
Andrew Clucas, COO in Microgaming, remarked:
“We are delighted to extend our offering into the regulated market of Portugal. ESC Online is one of the country’s leading gaming brands, and we are thrilled to provide them with some of the most engaging and successful titles in the industry.”
Rui Magalhaes, Estoril Sol Digital’s CEO, said himself:
“We set the highest standards for our ESC Online brand, and with the addition of Microgaming’s exceptional casino titles, we look forward to bolstering our offering and providing our players with access to the largest and most diverse online gaming portfolio in the business.”
