Massachusetts Considering to Launch Another Casino

Back

Massachusetts is ready to introduce a new casino site in the state. Officials of the state look to increase competition by including third casino venue and issuing another gambling license. If everything goes well, Massachusetts will grant the last license which is reserved for the southeastern area of the state.

Details of Decision:

Massachusetts Gaming Commission has just posted a question on its website, asking “Does Massachusetts need another casino?“ Following the announcement, local gamblers should respond to the initiative and public opinion should be known. The state has allowed citizens to leave comments and impressions until March 16, 2020. Additionally, the state experts are also consulted on the idea and soon we will have a clear situation.

As we already stated, the southeastern part of Massachusetts is known for amazing facilities including Plainridge Park locality, a slots parlor, and a harness racing track. However, the location is not so distant from the line with Rhode Island and Twin River which successfully manages two casinos.

Expectations:

Regarding the previous idea, some operators have already shown interest in building a new resort. One of them is the Mashpee Wampanoag Indian tribe which has the idea to work on the construction of $1 billion worth casino. Additionally, the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe is interested in developing a gambling hall right on Martha’s Vineyard.

Meanwhile, the state has to decide whether it needs more casino projects in the region. As a reminder, Massachusetts looked to include a southeastern venue in 2016 but the attempt was not so successful. The state has received only one application for the construction of a $677 million casino at the Brockton Fairgrounds. Following that case, the Gaming Commission decided to drop the idea of adding another venue.

Despite initial rejection, the Mass Gaming and Entertainment group pushed the state to reconsider its application. The company has been included in the Brockton project and has persistently looked to obtain the third license in the state. Another reason for such determination is the problem with the Mashpee Wampanoag casino facility which faces regular legal issues.

Mass Gaming and Entertainment group continues to look for the third license in Massachusetts. As the Mashpee project is blocked with no clear perspective, the operator hopes to convince the state about the necessity of another casino site.

At the moment, the state is the home of two casino properties - MGM Springfield is located close to the state border with Connecticut and the Encore Boston Harbor, situated in Everett, Boston.
