Golden Rock Studios may be a new kid on the block but the guys behind this brand of iGaming products and services are no strangers to the industry. The founders formerly ran William Hill Casino and decided to put their knowledge to use in the form of a new company with a focus on quality slots and table games. We had the opportunity to catch up with Shane Regan, Head of Commercial at Golden Rock Studios, for a closer look at the offerings. Q: Golden Rock Studios is a young company on the iGaming scene, but its founders are no stranger to this sector. We’re interested in learning more about how the company was founded including all the products and services offered.
A: Our founders James Curwen (CEO) and Will Mathieson (CPO) both used to run a very successful William Hill casino online, and during that time they worked in collaboration with some of the biggest game studios around to make a huge number of very successful games, some of which still occupy homepages on casinos all around the world. It was for this reason they decided to set up Golden Rock Studios with the idea of taking all the learnings from their previous roles and reproducing the magic that has helped shaped the industry in terms of game styles and mechanics.
Q: In the About Us section of the website, you say “It’s not enough to be exceptional at what you do, it’s not enough to be passionate about gaming, you also have to have a gambler’s heart beating inside you.” How important is it for creators to have a passion for gambling?
A: This is simple to answer. If you do anything without passion, then you are not giving the task 100%. But if you do the task with passion, as well as having a strong desire to play games just like the ones we are building, then this means that our games are built with the players’ happiness in mind. As an example, in all our games we try to add a feature that rewards players beyond their expectations.
Q: Based on the offerings, the portfolio seems to place equal value on slots and table games. Do you intend to continue focusing on both types of games with future releases?A: We have a packed roadmap planned for 2020 and beyond, so we will over time have a lot more slot games available than table games. However, table games are also a big passion of the Golden Rock team, and James has used his vast experience to design an innovative feature not yet seen, so we have developed a series of table games around this and over time you will see us release a variety of table games which will all complement the strong table game market.
Q: Speaking of future releases, can you give us any details about upcoming launches?A: Next up we will be distributing Star Gods globally on 13 January 2020 through Microgaming’s award-winning platform, as part of our exclusive supply deal. Star Gods’ mechanics are proven and very familiar with players. The game is a 5x3 reel slot with 10 paylines, paying left to right and right to left. It features expanding wilds that give a guaranteed winning respin, and a bonus round which has frequent re-triggers. Star Gods is full of excitement and is sure to be a big hit with players, timed to be available for casinos over the Chinese New Year too, so we expect to see a lot of the Star Gods fireworks!
Q: What is the standout quality of Golden Rock Studios? Are there any features that are unique to your slots or other games?A: Our dedication to innovation and standing out from the crowd with bold ideas and game mechanics. We are currently working on a number of unique features and games which will show off our desire to be different and innovative. Our games roadmap is even designed to ensure that every game we make has its own unique twist. But with innovation in mind, shortly after Star Gods is released we launch RouletteX2 exclusively to Microgaming customers. RouletteX2 has a unique dice feature in the game and certainly goes a long way to helping Golden Rock Studios be noticed for the efforts we have made in this area.
