Back Four Seasons Macau Casino Robbery Occurs

Four Seasons Macau has suffered a robbery attack. According to the report from Judiciary Police, two robbers stole about HK$3 million ($382,000) in chips on May 24, 2019. The South China Morning Post conveys that casino croupier and a security guard were attacked with pepper spray, leading to the completion of the robbery. Casino officials reported the crime to local authorities at 5:30 AM.

Through 12:30 PM on the same day, local police had not found anyone suspected for the crime.

Background of the Robbery

The recent robbery is followed by continuous speculations. Only two days before, Macau police met with casino representatives from Venetian Macao resort, Sands casino, and the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. Three authorities gathered to discuss the possibility of faster reactions and prevention of such incidents. The recent Macau robbery showed that such meetings could stand some improvement.

Recent Macau Issues

Four Seasons Macau has been connected to numerous illegal activities. Only a week ago, one man was stabbed outside of the complex. At the same time, official reports show an increasing rate of casino crime in the region (about 14%). However, most crimes belong to the less violent kind like money lending or loan sharking. Despite less violent crimes, Macau records several murder cases.

Police could not predict the latest Four Seasons robbery. Just a week before the incident, the local authorities insisted that an increase in crime will not affect residents. Obviously, they didn’t expect the event of 24 May.

Possible Outcome

Authorities continue to search for suspects connected to the robbery. It is hard to predict how the situation will be handled. The robbers have multiple chips in their hands and the whole city behind them. If they decide to cash stolen chips, they should have a well-thought plan to avoid possible capture. Everyone connected with the robbers and chips is going to have serious repercussions if and when caught. We can expect further updates on the case in the next weeks. Meanwhile, we will follow the police statements.
