What would you do with $2 million?
I am traveling by Amtrak on March 16 to Hollywood, FL., a 13-hour trip on the Old 97 that will land me on the sandy beaches of one of my favorite Florida cities.
I remember Hollywood. That was where I would sleep in my serenity motel while gaining strength to overpower the other players at the Hard Rock Casino, 10 minutes away.
The Seminole-owned Hard Rock Café is featuring a series of tournaments that will pay winners more than $2 million. My plans are to play well enough to collect a percentage of that $2 millon.
I know the job won't be easy. Florida tournament players don't give up their money without a fight.
But I'm pretty tough myself and don't give up a poker pot without a battle.
I will be playing in a couple of tournaments, including a $360 buy-in Omaha High-Low Tournament. I'm excited at seeing Hollywood again. That was where I met one of the loves of my life, Grace Shaw, a flight attendant for Delta Airlines.
Grace was a tall, slim beauty of Polish extraction who had flown for the Polish Airlines before emigrating to the United States.
She was so attractive the Polish government recruited her to become a spy. The pay was lucrative, so Grace accepted their offer.
All went well until Boris, Grace's sector chief, came to her and told Grace they wanted her to spy on her fellow employees. The government was worried that some pilots and flight attendants were planning to defect and wanted to stop it.
'No, Borris,' Grace told her sector chief. 'I cannot spy on my friends. I quit.'
Boris, a kindly Communist who treated Grace like she was his granddaughter, said sadly, 'Grace, you're a spy. You can't quit. If you quit, we have to shoot you.'
Well, Boris didn't have Grace shot. He arranged for her to travel to the United States where she transferred to Delta Airlines and became a U.S. citizen.
What would you do with $2 million? What would I do with $2 million.
Well, I would take my brother Legs on a trip to Italy. There I would pursue beauties much too young for me through bars, bistros and dark forests. Italy is romance, the land of my ancestors, and I want to enjoy it to the hilt.
Then I would take a long cruise either to the Caribbean or the South Pacific. I would hire a middle aged secretary, say 25-45, to accompany me and share a daiquiri while we watch a blazing sunset.
Then I would buy a blue convertible. I haven't decided the model, but it will be a beauty.
Finally I will help friends and strangers in need. The beggar on the corner with a hand-painted sign, 'Will Work For Food,' might be an angel in disguise waiting for a benefactor.
As for the rest of the money, I would spend it on wine, women, song and the blessedness of life and the blessed herb. This is the way to live. What would you do with your money?

Thank you for that comment Geno. Once I thought that most people thought like I did about being generous but I guess now I feel like that I am not in the majority on that subject. I believe that what would make me happy is being able to make other people happy and take their worries away if I can. Again, thank you.

Being generous with one's winnings is always a good thing, and Jumbo's generosity is a positive way to think.

I would buy or pay off houses for all three of my kids, all 3 of my siblings and my mom of course. Then I would make darn sure to donate to food pantries, homeless shelters and that kind of thing. I think I would also treat myself to a really nice restful vacation somewhere tropical and warm. Wouldn't that be nice to...

Hmmm... Italy is beautiful. It is as if the whole country is a work of art. The food is wonderful, the people friendly...but do not drive, they drive like madmen... Boris, Boris!!! "If you quit we have to shoot you!" Well...I guess you changed the names to protect their identities... I would pay the mortgage...yes,...

"If you quit we have to shoot you!" Well...I guess you changed the names to protect their identities... I would pay the mortgage...yes, go to Italy...and then maybe Honolulu...help some friends and family...do a wee bit of philanthropy and go to a michelin star restaurant or two...and get the wife a new car. And put the rest into a shelter for stray cats.
